The PlayStation Network went down yesterday for a rather lengthy 12 or so hours, but it's now back online, and it's brought your PlayStation Plus offering for January along with it. Good news, we suppose.
In case you've been left out of the loop, this month's games include the brand new Hardware: Rivals and fantastic Grim Fandango Remastered on PS4, while PS3 gets the stupidly named Medal of Honor Warfighter and the bloody good Dragon Age: Origins. Elsewhere, handheld enthusiasts will have to make do with Nihilumbra - a decent little 2D adventure - and, er, Legends of War: Patton's Campaign.
Does January's selection satisfy your needs? Give the titles a look via the video that we've embedded and let us know in the comments section below.

No. Just no. Grim Fandango is a good one but really, Sony is just taking the p!$$ these days, there hasn't been a single game from plus I have been interested in for a long long time.
Nope will pass, Sony should just cut our yearly script down to £19.99 a year and stop these silly games!!
Hardware: Rivals looks really good so I'm looking forward to giving that a go later tonight. Probably worth noting that these aren't out in North America just yet - but you guys shouldn't be too far behind Europe.
Yay grim fandango a game I wanna play yay
@KratosMD No, you're ultimately right. Sure, maybe PS Plus could be better, and sure, maybe some months have been disappointing - but we're now at a point where a lot of people are just going to complain regardless of what we're given. I was talking to @get2sammyb about this earlier, and we reckon Sony could give away the likes of GTAV on Plus and people would say it's rubbish because they've already got it.
It does feel, at times, like Sony just can't win.
Tbh I'm more disappointed with the vita selection of ps plus games, if they are going to use psp games atleast give us good ones like dissidia 012, God eater, third birthday, valkyria chronicles 2 etc
Might give Hardware Rivals a bash, and I've already got Grim Fandango (which everyone should totally play, it's ace).
@ShogunRok To be far, you can hardly blame people for complaining about PS+ offerings on PS4. The PS4 has been out for over 2 years and still people have to settle for indie games each month. Especially when you see the PS3 getting better (albeit much older) games. In this day and age we shouldn't have to pay to play online. PC doesn't have a pay wall. You can't argue the, Sony need the money to maintain the service either ad the service is terrible considering we pay for it.
It doesn't bother me as much as some as I spent 8 years paying for Xbox Live and that didn't come with free, if mostly uninspiring games.
I think that Sony needs to bring back the voting system. Not sure why they only had it in place for one month.
Hardware Rivals looks fun, and I already own Grim Fandango (great adventure). So it's a win for me.. I kinda see Hardware Rivals as another Rocket League, where we get another fun and free vehicle based multiplayer game that can be enjoyed in short or long bursts.
My main problem with the free games is, well, me. I download all of them but barely give them a chance; if it hasn't grabbed me in the first minute I'll delete it, whereas if I'd taken a punt on it for a few quid on the store, there's no way I'd be so unforgiving.
I'd be interested to hear if others are as ungrateful as me.
Has anyone else noticed that in the small print / blurb for Dragon Age: Origins it mentions the game is playable on PS4?
@stevejcrow Must be a typo as it makes no sense;
Please note: This game can only be played on a PS4 system.
If you’re accessing this game on a PS3, here's how to download it to your PS4:
@WARDIE What's wrong with settling for Indie games? A lot of them actually put the AAA stuff to shame.
The voting was only ever going to be now and then and developers and publishers have to agree to it.
@adf86 I didn't say anything is wrong with them. You're right, some indies are better but, alot are trash that nobody wants. Also there are alot of AAA's that are better than indies.
I couldn't care less to be far as I stated above. Im used to paying for online services.
I do however understand why people complain about getting indie after indie after indie.
Maybe if Sony gave us one AAA every other month it might make some people happy. After all, most people were paying for AAA games on PS3 via PS+ but now over 2 years of Plus on PS4 and the standard remains the same as it was day one on PS4.
Fart
I can't get over how awful this months lineup is. I mean that Vita lineup is just pathetic. And Fandango is a pretty good game, but come on Sony. It's like you're not even trying anymore, and to be honest, I don't think you are.
I still fail to see why we can't get a game like Killzone, Knack or... pretty much ANY title that came out in the first year of the PS4's life. And why is the Vita offering so typically terrible? Freedom Wars is probably the only title that was worth a damn for the last year. Can Sony just not get third party titles from the Vita on PS+ that easily? Or are they intentionally keeping big titles off the "free" list for PS4/Vita so people will still buy them? I highly doubt people are still buying Knack and Persona 4
For what it's worth to fellow Vita owners. At least in the US:
Grim Fandango's Vita release is also part of this, bringing us to three games. The Patton game looks like the Vita version, and not the older PSP version. So we're at three games, and one of them hopefully nicer than we might have first thought.
A great game, I shall add it to my digital list of games to play next. I do agree some months feel worse than others but I added every game to my library regardless. And one day I'll give them a try. If I like it, they'll be a win. I don't play a single genre more than another so I don't judge the games given harshly. They are all fair value games to me.
no PS+ for me this month Already have Grim Fandango and I don't need those other games at all.
A bit disappointed again, hoping for better results in the future. I'd really like to see Knack sometime soon.
Honestly, I just renew my PS+ in order to keep my saves uploaded to the cloud. I keep a copy on the system, in the cloud, and on USB, but I wished they would make my saves on USB easily transferred to a new system if need be like the cloud does connected to your Username. If I did't have +, I'd lose my saves if my system bit the dust, even though I have them on USB.
Also, I enjoy playing some PS+ games they offer, but it's more like a trial for me. I hate to think I lose any ability to play a game if I decide not to renew and there's no hard copy. Just a waste, personally.
@ShogunRok I completely agree with you, people saying the games are awful just cos it's something they don't want are idiots.
I got plus when I got my ps4 in Feb2014 and I've had enough value out of the games to cover the yearly sub so far. I already own Grim Fandango but I'm glad it's up simply because it deserves to be played and now it might reach a wider audience. Last year we got Rocket League and the amount of hours I put into that alone made 2015's sub worth it.
@KratosMD the problem is the way the balance of power has changed... on the PS3 era Sony had to made sure people liked the games or else they wouldn't subscribe... they started by offering only playstation minis and nobody subscribed they were forced to offer AAA games in order to get people to subscribe...
Now because PS+ is mandatory for online Sony has all the power people can complain all they want that they don't like the games but they will still subscribe because they want to play online so Sony doesn't care if people like the games or not
I thought Hardware Rivals was going to be a free to play game. That was the impression I got with the beta. Grim Fandango I'm just not bothered about. Aside from nostalgia, after viewing the trailer, I cant see why this has so much attention today. I'm sure back then it was phenomenal. I say it every month, but here we go - the service isn't free - these aren't free games - we have a right to like/dislike. Cheers all. Back to Fallout 4!
@Shellcore Grim Fandango is an excellent game to this day, I do agree people have the right to complain the way they go on is a bit sad and pathetic IMO and at the end of the day they could have just started charging and giving people nothing at all like Microsoft did with the 360, and let's not forget before I get hate saying they do free games - they didn't until Sony did with plus.
@GlynCR If they started charging to play online and gave nothing...PC would start looking like a great alternative option to someone on the fence.
@Shellcore But like i said MS never gave anything with live on 360 and no one ranted half as much as they do about the 'free' games that get offered up with plus. And on not of the sub for a year I've saved over £60 on games bought in sales on top of having the value of games I've played and enjoyed that are given to the masses.
I'm not saying plus is worth it if you just judge it on the games that are offered at all but I've played games over the last 2 years that I normally wouldn't have touched and loved them Stick It To The Man, Rouge Legacy, Rocket League & Outlast (which I had to stop playing cos I was genuinely scared) being some of the best I've had so far
