Alienation's finally crash landed with a confirmed release date, and it's brought along a rather great looking new trailer, too. Housemarque's latest shooter sees you fend off alien scum using a wide variety of weapons and abilities, and you can join up to three allies if you want even more chaos on your screen.
The downloadable title was previously pegged to launch on the 23rd March, but it's been pushed back around a month, to the 26th April. With that in mind, next month is looking like a pretty strong one for the PlayStation 4, with games like Dark Souls III and Ratchet & Clank also releasing on Sony's home console.
Get an eyeful of the explosive trailer that we've embedded, then start shredding some extraterrestrials in the comments section below.

Shame to hear it's been delayed but not sure I'd have picked it up this month anyway.
First game I've ever pre-ordered, looks so awesome. If another month makes the game even better then I'm happy to wait a little longer.
Wow, looks amazing
Could never get into Dead Nation but this looks really good. My only fear is whether I can focus on what's going on due to the amount special effects happening on the screen.
Looking forward to this (though it is a Housemarque game duh ) Shadow of the Beast was put back to may too.
Can't say its looking anything special. To me it seems like a typical twin stick shooter and nothing special from a visual perspective. Granted the light show is better than most twin stick shooters but its hardly 'ground breaking'.
I don't want to sound negative, but what sets this apart from 'other' games in this genre? Why play this instead of those? Does it have a good story?
I was looking forward to this, but the trailer released today makes it look way too much like Dead Nation.
I love Dead Nation, and I know this is the same genre, but I was hoping for something that would set this apart. The post on PlayStation Blog didn't give any details on what would make this a must-buy for owners of DN, so I'm concerned that if I bought this, I'd feel like it was nothing more than a re-skin of a game I already have.
@BAMozzy Because it's by Housemarque, most people would say they are the best when it comes to the genre, plus their last game Resogun was an instant classic.
@adf86 to be honest I don't care if they were the best by some considerable distance, its still just a twin stick shooter and its not a genre I particularly go for. I don't mind having a blast on these in things like Dead Ops Arcade (CoD) once in a blue moon although I do prefer games like Tomb Raider and the Temple of Osiris because it has more of a puzzle element to it - its not just mindless but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to play and doubt I would spend money to buy. The exception though would be if it added something 'unique' to the genre - something that sets it apart from everything else. If I want this type of experience, I do have 'alternatives' even if they are not necessarily the 'best' - they were either free or part of a bigger game.
Its difficult from a trailer focussed purely on the action to know whether its as 'mindless' as it appears - just shoot everything where every level is the same over and over again with the only difference being the setting and increasing numbers and/or toughness of enemies or if it has more structure, a campaign, progression system, RPG elements etc. It could be like Diablo 3 (for example) but with Aliens instead.
Resogun certainly isn't a game I would want or play so that counts for nothing to me.
@BAMozzy For me the mindless action is enough because when Housemarque do it, hardly any other studio can touch them. You mention whether the game will have a good story, my guess is probably not largely because no one really comes into these type of games expecting good stories so the developers skills are better served elsewhere. But I get it if you think it's not your type of game.
I learned my lesson with being an early adopter with Helldivers (DLC Packs, Mega Edition, Plus offering & if you own you can't get the DLC like the terrain pack in the US) and will wait for more than a 10% & theme incentive.
I will wait and see how DLC will be for this game or if there will even be any.
That's what separates Housemarque twin stick shooter's from other games of it's type, normal twin stick shooters is just that with a couple of bombs. But Housemarque adds other gameplay mechanics to there games that adds a bit more depth to the gameplay, especially compared to other games of its type.
@BAMozzy Sounds like you better pass on it then bud. If you have found this many negative things about the game, the genre, and the developer, it is probably not for you. Looks like a better version of HellDivers to me.
@banacheck Have to agree with this, Resogun was absolutely perfect for what it was trying to do, and I still pick it up and play to this day. Some studios just know what genres they are good at it, and they stick to them until they have mastered it.
I am not trying to be 'negative' but just want to know if the game has more depth to it than the superficial just shoot everything! It could have some form of campaign structure and dialogue, It could have character development and/or levelling system - maybe even character customisation - weapons and armour etc even if the game is a twin stick shooter. Like I said it could have more depth - similar to Diablo 3. Its not unheard of even for a 'budget' priced game - look at The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing for example.
I am trying to ascertain what makes this 'different' because the game-play looks so similar to every other twin stick shooter ever. I am trying to see what separates it from anything else and why its getting so much attention because at the moment I can't see it.
@WanderingBullet Aside from the graphics its pretty much the same game. It plays just like Dead Nation given that its kind of a spiritual successor.
@BAMozzy It doesn't have to do anything different or set the bar, its just going to be a fun game to play, much like all their games.
@WARDIE I never said 'it' did! However if it doesn't, O have no interest in mindless, vacuous games - regardless of who makes them, whether they are 'the best' at making mindless even if they may be 'fun' games.
Games like this get very boring for me, very quickly. They may start of being 'fun' but very quickly, I get bored if the only objective is mindless shooting with no or even a superficial story, no depth to the game-play etc etc
I am NOT criticising this game or the developers. All I am trying to ascertain is if this game is as shallow and superficial as the video looks (even if some will enjoy the mindless 'fun' it offers) or whether it has some 'depth' and substance to separate it from all the other 'mindless fun' games.
As I pointed out, this could have more depth in various ways. If not then I know not to buy it (or rush to download it if/when it gets offered for IGC). I appreciate the fact that others may like 'mindless but fun' games - I am not one of them!
@BAMozzy Seems you're in the wrong post/thread buddy.Everyone here seems to like or love it except for you lol.
Me,I love their games, right down to Super Stardust.
Housemarque are one of those devs that make awesome and fun games. They don't make games with epic stories and stuff, just fun ,addictive games. The game is not even out yet and you're already making assumptions and judgments.
You say you're not being negative, but you are lol.
If you don't like this game so much, why are you still even here banging on about it? lol
You're looking at the wrong dev and wrong games for your play style.

@atomicorion I am certainly NOT in the wrong thread! It seems the perfect thread to ask whether this game is as shallow and superficial as it looks or if it will have more depth. It would be pointless me asking these questions about this game in a thread about something completely different!
I am not making assumptions, hence my questions about what this game is offering beyond the 'shoot everything' twin stick nature I can see in the video. I did not assume it was as mindless as it looks.
Its not negative either. Some people enjoy mindless, dumb fun - especially if it has pretty light shows it seems. Calling a game that, if that's what it is, is not negative but I guess if you are hypersensitive about a game you have no responsibility towards and no creative input into and see that as me being 'negative' then that is your issue, not mine.
The reason I keep returning, is because people want to address comments directly to me - like you just have and therefore I am responding to you! Had you left me to my opinions OR offered information about this game to answer the questions I posed and actually wanted answers to, then maybe I wouldn't have felt the need to return.
It seems that my original thoughts and description are 'accurate' - it is yet another generic twin stick shooter - mindless, dumb 'fun' with nothing that sets it apart from any other twin stick shooter apart from its made by 'Housemarque' who may be the best developer at delivering mindless, dumb games of which there are a plethora of others.
I came here to ask if this offered something unique or different to those. I came here to ask if it offered any depth in some way - whether that's in the form of a narrative or in terms of maybe RPG elements, character development, customisation etc but it seems not. Just because a developer has made mindless, dumb fun games in the past doesn't mean that is ALL they will make. This could have had that mindless dumb fun, but added in other elements too - a development on from their beginnings.
So rather than having a go at me for asking in the most appropriate place about this game, feeling like you have to have a go about my 'opinion' - even though I have no desire to criticise yours as I believe we are ALL entitled to have one regardless of whether or not it agrees with others.
I am certainly NOT in the wrong place to try and find out IF this could be a game worth trying from my perspective or ignoring completely because its not delivering what I look for in a game. It seems that currently, it may still be the wrong developers for me but I didn't know that until I asked. The game play mechanics themselves are not necessarily my preferred play style but I am not adversed to twin stick shooters IF the game itself has depth in some way.
There's a 10% pre-order discount for the game in the US PSN store now along with a few others. It's in the Launch Party Sale section.
There no need to berate others who's opinion is different then yours. If you feel the need too take it elseware please. -Tasuki-
@Tasuki Did you mean "whose"?
When you use the word "who's" it means "who is".
And an apostrophe after the letter "s" in " others' " and the words "then" and "than".
In your case, you would use the word "than",and not "then" as you're using it in comparison.
Also the word you're seeking for is "elsewhere" and not "elseware" as you wrote.
Don't mean to be a grammar nazi, but I think it would help others' understand your sentences better in future.
