Dead Island 2 has been re-animated by Sheffield-based studio Sumo Digital. Those of you with long memories may recall that the title was in production at Spec Ops: The Line maker Yager, and even was announced during a PlayStation press conference. But despite us getting hands-on time with the release, the German organisation parted ways with publisher Deep Silver last year.
But now it's being brought back from the dead by the developer behind LittleBigPlanet 3 and the Sonic Racing series. "Sumo Digital showed so much understanding of the brand, had creative ideas, and an excellent vision that was aligned with our own," Koch boss Dr Klemens Kundratitz told trade magazine MCV. "It just made perfect sense for us to move the project to them."
Sumo Digital's proved itself a very competent developer over the years, but it faces an uphill battle against Dying Light, which has essentially eaten the Dead Island series' lunch. Deep Silver's in the process of bringing the property back to the fore, though, announcing that a remaster of Techland's original two titles is coming to the PlayStation 4. Interesting times ahead for Dead Island, then.

So this will be an unplayable broken mess? I have yet to get past the falling bridge section near the beginning of LBP3 and I have never been able to create anything, the cursor just will not function. Both known pronlems with the game. LBP was a great series until 3.
@rjejr Huge fan of both LBP and MM. The only reason why I didn't get LBP3 was because it wasn't developed by MM. :/
@rjejr Broken mess is the very definition of Dead Island! XD
Good luck to them with this. They did a decent job with LBP3 I thought...
@Dodoo I liked LBP3 as well.
Zombies are just to played out culturally right now, for me anyway. Hard to find enjoyment in that genre unless I am watching the Walking Dead. Same thing happened several years ago with the over saturation of vampires. Glad that is over, lol.
@rjejr I found LBP 3 a fine game. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. Besides, didn't they already patched the game?
@get2sammyb Well you're obviously a man of good taste!
@SoulsBourne128 As far as I've read and I followed it for about a year waiting for that glitch to be patched, it never was. Something to do with old save files form previous versions corrupting the game. My kids playing 2 player were able to get past it so the game did get played by them.
It's a tricky game to do now because Dying Light topped it in every conceivable way by the original creators that it'll be tough for Dead Island 2 to stand on it's own.
Here hoping they will be the developers that will finally get the game release, third time lucky, here's hoping. But the game has a lot to prove as Dying Light was brilliant and has perfected the Zombie Killing genre.
I'm one of the few people looking forward to this. That is if it ever comes out...
Dying Light is now the Zombie game that I compare all others too. I hope they do a good job on it and wish they a good success.
No sonic and sega all star racing transformed 3: nascar revenge I guess, I really liked their kart racing games.
LOL What? Is my first response.
Has that Homefront curse morphed into an airborne virus over at Deep Sliver? Is my second response.
Well I suppose this could be a thing. Is my serious response.
Whaaatt. Somebody just finish it and ship so we can all move on.
With a story i hope with the previous build they didn't find it necessary.....
Good news to me. I actually really enjoyed the first Dead Island title, so I've been waiting for the next one of the series. Never played Dying Light, but after hearing everyone say it was good, I'll have to give it a try.
Little Big Planet 3 wasn't that bad of a game. It was pretty good, just needed more story line elements to it instead of having a quick 2-3 hours of playtime. Other than that, the addition of new characters was a pretty good step up, even though it didn't help the series. Part one and two were still better, but hopefully, they step it up with a newer game in the series (please not Little Big Planet Kart). I'd also like a new Jak and Daxter game that's like the first one, but I doubt that will ever happen either.
