Some people won't be happy about this, but we're not really sure how else it could work. In a public post on its official blog, Ubisoft has outlined what we can all expect from Tom Clancy's The Division on launch day. The gist of it is that you won't be reading any reviews before the game releases on the 8th March.
The main reason for this is that the title's servers won't go live until launch day, so there's effectively no way for us reviewers to play the game before you lot. Of course, this also means that if you're on the fence about buying The Division, you may want to wait a little longer to hear what others are saying about it.
Were you relying on reviews for The Division before launch, or have you already pre-ordered the game? Take aim in the comments section below.

I certainly won't be buying it on Launch day - partly because of the lack of reviews. This was certainly one game that I originally was really looking forward to after the initial review but as time as gone on, my interest has dropped with the new information culminating in its lowest point during the Beta. The only thing saving it from my perspective was how it reviewed as a complete game/story as the Dark Zone really has no appeal. Even if it does review well, I doubt I will be interested in buying until the inevitable and significant price drop as so much of it doesn't appeal anymore.
Thats fine already got the game on pre-order and enjoyed the beta gameplay a lot.
Definitely not buying on launch day then. These online-focused games need to start being reviewed. Switch the servers on a week or two weeks in advance and send review copies out to multiple outlets. It shouldn't be that difficult, right? I'm not getting duped into buying this like I was Destiny. I like The Division's gun play for the most part, but that's not enough for me to want to purchase day one. It definitely doesn't feel revolutionary either, as it was being hyped up to be all those years ago when we were first hearing about it.
I'm in day one.
Liked what I played in the beta so looking forward to release.
Wouldn't be surprised if there's server issues in the first few days, but seeing as it ran well enough in the beta hopefully they got things covered.
I was on the fence about it , if I'm honest I brought it for my Xbox one the gold edition from Xbox Argentina store for 34 odd quid including season pass.
I liked beta went for Xbox over my ps4 because cost is much less sounds aweful but if your not sure about a game better keep costs down.
Not a problem, take your time. I'll wait until your review is ready.
The beta was quite fun but I was far from convinced that it's an essential purchase.
Loved the betas closed and open! I've got it on pre order "Gold Edition" very much looking forward to next Tuesday! 👍🏻👌🏻
There's been extensive coverage of this game and two betas. I think anyone who's interested in the game should know at this point whether it's for them or not. If you really need the numerical stamp of approval from a critic at this point to make your decision, I feel like that's pretty sheep-y.
I really liked the Beta, but I realized right away that I can't spend as much time on the game as it needs me to, so I'll wait for season 2; by that time the experience will be smoother and the total package will be more affordable.... Unless there are so much games to play as I have now, then I'll have to miss out on what seems to be a very pleasant game.
I just wanna know how much content is in the full release and if the post game is worth it before I purchase, which is why I'm waiting on reviews.
If history is anything to go by, I'll give this a skip. Paying for a broken game seems to be the norm these days. Especially on PC. U-Don't-Play.
I think it's probably a good call. You won't get accurate reviews from a massively online game like this if the servers are populated only with developers and reviewers. It's just not representative of the final product, both in number and the fact that it's a very specialised group of people playing.
The beta sold me on it, if it had no beta I would have waited till it hit $40ish and then check out youtube footage.
@PeachSpike this is different at least it has a season pass ! And destiny was a money pit
@naut The sheep need something to follow besides their own minds lol
@naut The Division is a weird one, though. A lot of people want to know how good the endgame content is, for example, before they commit to a purchase. Plus, a lot of people feel like they were burned with they hype surrounding the likes of Destiny. I certainly wouldn't blame anyone who's holding off on the decision at this point.
Hated the beta but it's not the first time I've hated a beta/demo and loved the main game. Still there are many factors weighing against my willingness to give this another shot, but never say never..
This game will be great then, well...

I don't understand why their cant be reviews of the single player content first then review the online stuff after the servers go live. I played the open and closed beta and it was a good shooter but didn't hook me. I think the dark zone is hot or miss if it will be fun and you must have friends who can coordinate time to play together on a regular basis. I have some people in my friends list on psn but nit enough.
This is one of those games I will either buy at more than half price or never buy at all. Division was highly anticipated but like someone else said as time went in after first announcement my interest has wean specially after the betas.
The single player missions were cool but how deep are they in the entire game and do they become very dull? So this is the main reason a review of the single player stories need to be reviewed on day one.
More Ubi trash. I honestly believe they make the most boring games of all time. Last game they made I enjoyed was Assassins Creed 2.
@SonyInfinity it's not about being a sheep. Its about having reviews of at least the story content to know if it's any good. Reviews aren't just about the score but about revealing the flaws the game may have that would potentially warn a potential buyer from wasting time buying the game.

@Ewflex IMO the MANY hours of YouTube videos of the game play and the two betas are plenty enough for me personally. I say sheep as a joke really, because people have become more and more reliant on supposed professional "gaming journalists" telling them what is good and what isnt. Take it as you will.
@Ewflex I also think that if you are expecting a good story to be included in what is essentially an online shooter, you will probably be dissatisfied. The focus will be on the shooting first and foremost, with story somewhere far behind, imo. I could have made this educated guess without seeing any videos on the game, knowing how big devs develop online shooters these days.
That sounds awfully shady...
@ShogunRok
That's how I feel about the game at the moment...
@Neolit I agree with you on that, hold off on purchases for first couple of weeks and this culture of review embargoes will swiftly disappear.
@SonyInfinity Because gaming journalism is a new thing and product reviews are a recent development?
I'd probably buy this on day one but I can understand people's waryness, they wanna know about end game content like raid's or...er well thats what they would like to know first. I have heard that there's 8 man content but from an unofficial source just some guy on youtube. Imagine if the dark zone is the end game content, that would be my concern it was fun for a few day's but would grow old very quickly.
Not surprised at all. Is this the new embargo? "Oh, the servers aren't switched on so the online elements cant be reviewed". Who the hell turns the servers on the day of release! The only saving grace for Ubisoft in this instance is the two betas that have been offered before launch, otherwise I'd call bull on the whole thing.
Hmm, I may cancel my pre-order then. The Dark Zone, end game content and such aren't what I want from this. I played the beta strictly solo and enjoyed scavaging and the lone vigilante thing, but for how long?
lol
and another one bites the dust.
Seriously, if they were confident about their game they could switch on the servers prior to release and give reviewers and the public a chance to see what kind of garbage they stirred up this time.
While I understand people's waryness, I very much enjoyed the beta wiith my team, so it will probably be day 1 for me anyway
I can see that the reviews are probably gonna be pretty polarised for this. I imagine they've probably had notice of quite a few pre order cancellations hence this nonsense.
Lost interest in this game after seeing that it seems pretty generic in terms of shooter
That's an easy way of preventing negative reviews at launch.
@SonyInfinity I Agree these days AAA shooters stories are a afterthought. I also agree I can watch you tube to see gameplay. What I am saying is that in order to not spoil the game by watching you tube videos I can read a review that will summarize the pros and cons of a game. It's not so much the journalist opinion as much as the facts provided about the features and mechanics are provided in a review.
I agree not to put too much stock in a review score but their is merit in professional reviews. I also look at you tube reviews by reputable you tube guys like angry joe that pull no punches with game reviews.
I relied on the boredom I discovered in the beta to make my decision to pass on this one.
I think the game will suffer from it's own realism and lack of creativity; the loot is utterly dull and the enemies would struggle to be less imaginative. As for an engaging plot, well it's just shoot the guys with red markers, just because, isn't it?
I don't rely on reviews to tell me what to buy but I do like them to highlight somethings strength and weaknesses before I do invest.
I can understand why it isn't being made available and agree that if you liked the beta you know what to expect. I wasn't really queuing to buy this game but I would look to read reviews first.
Example being Firewatch - I had this on my list of must haves (I love story based games) but nearly all reviews suggest a frustrating ending. I may still buy it but have decided to wait for a better time/price drops.
No launch day games for me at all any more. I always avoid the hype and wait for some user reviews, as well as pro ones. The game will still be there a few weeks after launch; no probs!
I'm having it on day one anyway after enjoying the Beta so much
I wont be picking it up on launch day. I am too engrossed in Far Cry Primal right now and the Star Wars Battlefront update should be hitting soon so meh for now.
I guess I can see both sides of this. On one hand it seems like a way to make sure there's no negative reviews out before the game releases. On the other hand, with multiplayer centric games it would be difficult to review until everything is up and running with many people playing. I've never made a game so I don't know how mich a company gone tunes the mechanics on the few days before launch.
The Division will feature raids and gear trading.

I'm waiting for the worst game of the year edition, lol, I played the betas, reeks of Detestiny to me, IMO it'll turn into a stalefest pretty quick.
Thank you for not rushing the review without playing enough of it.
