Now that Final Fantasy XV finally has a release date and Square Enix has shared its plans for the game, we have to ask: will you be buying it this September? Despite being in production for ten years, the hype's always remained high for Noctis' upcoming adventure, but with director Hajime Tabata stating that the title has to sell through 10 million copies to be considered a success, we find ourselves wondering if this particular fantasy can become a reality.
And with that, it's time to apply some hair gel and get cracking on our polls. When you're done, be sure to tell us if you think that Final Fantasy XV is shaping up to be something special in the comments section below.

yes, yes, YES to every single one
Already preordered
@vegeta11 i've had it pre-ordered since 2014 (is that bad?)
Final Fantasy is a series that I have absolutely no interest in whatsoever. Personally I struggle to see the attraction but I appreciate we all have different tastes. I expect this will be very popular to the Japanese/orient market and have a niche appeal to the west.
It has a big market of gamers to reach and if 1 in 4 PS owners buy it, it will reach its 10m target. The fact its also releasing on other platforms may well help it reach that target easier. I don't know how many gamers there are in Japan but I do expect this to be most popular there as a percentage.
You left out the obvious poll question - Will FFXV be delayed past Sept 30th?
And the corollary - What reason(s) will Squenix give for the delay?
1. Achieving parity between PS4 and Xbox One is hard
2. Adding in PS VR support
3. Recoding to work better on PS4k
4. We wanted to launch closer to BF and the holidays (or some such corporate BS when the game isn't working properly)
Preodered in January, but now considering pre-ordering the $89 Deluxe. And hoping for a PS4k bundle at launch. You just KNOW that movie will look so much better on a 4k blu ray disc.
6 months - 26 weeks from today (yes I counted) - is a long time people. Not 10 years long, but still long. It could still hit the date, but I wouldn't be compeltley shocked by a delay announced in July. Everybody gets to be happy at E3 though.
Yeah preordered since I played the demo that came with ff type zero . loved the combat similar to kingdom hearts . new demo was a bit meh apart from the the end boss dude
Its going to take a miracle to get me back into ff. I've been away from the series since 10, tried a few times to get into 14 online but squares maddening login setup and not getting a confirmation email for a long long time kept me from playing. I recently finally was able to complete setting up my square account, downloaded the trial, launched the game, only to find a massive, massive in client patch that wouldn't download in the background so I said screw it. Mind you this was the 5th time I had dowloaded the trial and attempted to set up an account. I want xv to recapture the glory and bring me back, but I'm just not so sure anymore and my faith/trust has been damaged by square over the years with the final nail in the coffin being the tomb raider sequel decision.
As with any JRPG, I'll give it chance if it comes with a fun and engaging combat system and with an original world to explore (Eternal Sonata, Resonance of Fate and The Last Story are some of the few JRPG I played and enjoyed last gen), but at the moment I have no interest on this. On the contrary Star Ocean and mostly Ni No Kuni 2 have my attention
Heh! Checked Amazon earlier and it said I preordered it 02/07/2013, my how time flies.
The story trailer looked amazing and I will get but maybe not at launch as I'll be saving for VR and the demo hasn't sold me on the combat yet, not to mention the shoddy frame rate which needs to be fixed for launch
It's my most anticipated game this year.
Wouldn't post then posted what I said 10 x lol
Under buying, should've added a button for those waiting for the possible PC port. I just did the "honestly not sure" option.
I'll buy it when I can. I was anticipating it eagerly when XIII was new, now I'm kinda blase about it. I don't think it's going to suck, but it feels like I'm just getting a game on a side trip rather than getting the next big game.
Can't say I'm interested. Maybe I'll buy the FF VII Remake if they don't totally screw it up, as while I do consider FF VII overrated, I also think it's a good game. Other than that, FF has been disappointing since the SNES days ended.
Demo was a bit meh.. looked nice but the fighting mechanic wasnt exactly engrossing, barring the boss character
Mos def. Will it be amazing? Dunno, but I've certainly played and enjoyed worse looking games.
I will probably buy it in 2018
Holding a single button to attack while wrestling a dodgy camera system became tedious after 35 minutes in the demo so putting up with it for 50+ hours? No ta. It's all just so uninspiring. Hopefully, World Of Final Fantasy can bring all the fun and charm back.
@BigDaddyT0101 A shame that because FFXIV is a cracking MMO. Good fun.
"Couldn't care less" and yet you came here to vote. Hipsters. Great April Fools joke.
I've been waiting 10 years Been wondering about the game often.
@FullbringIchigo Not at all, I have to haha
It will be my first final fantasy since X-2 (not counting a realm reborn).
played the demo today, sadly from technical aspect it's terrible. almost everything from anti-aliasing to texture quality, texture filtering and draw distance looks bad. i think that's the reason why Square enix decided to make FFVII Remake with U4 not Luminous.
combat system isn't satisfying ether, hold circle for auto attack and hold square for auto defense!!!
i know It has been 10 years since we first saw this game but let's be honest here, this game needs a lot of work. i probably won't be buying it until a refined version on PS4k or PC.
Waiting on a HD remake of FF7 and FF12 but this looks promising so will probaby get it close to release. I wonder how good it will be after FF13 though.
Hoping to see it go to PC or NX, but if not, FF XV will be the reason I buy a PS4(.5).
I still need to try the demo, but I'm very uncertain about this game. The initial demo released a year or so ago didn't really inspire any confidence in me.
For people hating on FFXIII all I can say is that the battle mechanics in that game were way better than the Platinum Demo's dream sequence portion.
I'll be waiting until the game eventually drops down to $30 New in 1-2 years, though that's due to me not being able to afford $60 games.
I have the deluxe edition preordered!
I wouldn't make any rash judgements on the game's combat based purely on the demo - it's severely limited without a full party, I imagine.
I have the Ultimate Edition pre ordered!
Ultimate edition pre-ordered
@THEONE19 If a PS4K exists it wont magically make older games better.
@THEONE19 Agree with you re technical problems. Why does this game look so nice in screenshots and trailers and, frankly, a bit of a mess on the TV! (I know why, no one needs to answer that )
Having said that, I'm sure I'll get used to its "look" as long as I don't play it in conjunction with something like MGS5 and I'm really hopeful there is a decent game in there. It does look really good in the new trailer.
Plus maybe just maybe they'll be able to cram in a little more polish following this demo feedback.
@Riririn as i said before a refined version of the game on PS4k or PC and that needs developer's support.
@kyleforrester87 yes MGSV on PS4 is Superb in terms of technical achievements thanks to FOX engine. it's a shame that we will never see Kojima work with that engine again.
@ShogunRok i hope you are right Robert, i love to see this game to become a success, love both FF franchise and Square Enix.
Downloaded it but still not tried it and honestly not too fussed
Not a huge FF fan, the only FF I played was Crisis Core: FFVII on the PSP, it was good but couldn't defeat the final boss (it was frustrating). I'll wait and see if FFXV will meet it's expectations.
Yes to all!! Sometimes I think I am the only longtime fan of the series!
I've been playing Final Fantasy games since 1989 on the NES. While I'm a bit apprehensive about some of the changes in gameplay, I've been looking forward to this one for years and will own it day 1.
i'll get the 4K version
Im new to the series, but i really enjoyed the demo... is it worth it getting even though i dont know much about the story?
@BAMozzy
Just thought I would share my personal story of how I came to love Final Fantasy and the JRPG genre, especially turn-based.
Prior to the year 2013 I did not play RPG's. At all. I hated them in fact. I had tried playing Final Fantasy X before and just couldn't get into it because of the turn-based combat, which seemed too slow and boring and lost my interest rather quickly.
Then a game released for Nintendo 3DS in February 2013 called Fire Emblem Awakening. It was a turn-based strategy RPG- something I would have normally blown off and never thought twice about it. But my brother, an RPG fan of many years, told me I needed to buy this game and try it. I told him I just couldn't get into turn-based games, but he convinced me nonetheless. So in faith, I did end up buying the game and to my surprise, I loved it. Absolutely LOVED it!
In fact, Fire Emblem is now my favorite franchise of all time (next to Monster Hunter). As soon as I finished playing the game (100 hours in I might add) I had a newfound respect and understanding for the appeal of turn-based games. Before, I just didn't "get it". I couldn't comprehend how someone could be totally absorbed into something so slow. But after I played that game I understood perfectly. And the very first thing I did after that was try to play Final Fantasy X again on Playstation Vita.
And what is so interesting, is that Final Fantasy X had turned me off before. Prior to my epiphany with Fire Emblem, that game stood for everything I hated about turn-based JRPG's. But after? It was like the curtain had been reeled back. It was like my eyes have been opened for the first time. I could see the appeal of the genre, and the game sucked me in every bit as much as Fire Emblem had.
Now, Final Fantasy X is among the greatest games I've ever played. The franchise is one of my favorites of all time. And in the three years since, I have gone on to play countless RPG's of all kinds- turn based, real-time, grid-based strategy and tactical RPG's... I love them all!
But one thing I will say is this- RPG's are among the absolute worst games when done poorly. They are one of my favorite genres when they get the formula right- but when they don't, the games are exceedingly horrible. Which is why I think a lot of people don't engage with the genre- they play one of the bad ones and understandably, it turns them off for life. I think playing the right RPG can make a fan out of anyone. You just have to find the right one.
@owen012201 Yeah, the Platinum Demo isn't a part of the main game, so it has no real bearing on the story. And just to clarify, the Final Fantasy games don't have a continual story. Final Fantasy VII is set in a different world with a completely different cast to Final Fantasy VIII, for example.
It's only games like Final Fantasy X-2 and XIII-2 that continue the plot of the previous game, so if you're interested in XV, you'll be able to jump in without knowing anything whatsoever about the rest of the series.
I haven't paid too much attention to FFXV since it's been in development limbo for so long, but from what I've heard and seen, I'm honestly not ecstatic for it. But that's not to say I'm not highly interested. Things like the Kingdom Hearts-esque combat, cool universe, and potential for great camaraderie and character development of the all-male cast have caught my attention. But I'm worried about how packed the open world will be, traversal, how much the game will rely on activities that will likely lose their appeal quickly (ride Chocobos, fish, drive, etc.), and simply if 10+ years of development have negatively affected the project.
I haven't been invested in the FF franchise since I've only played FFX (which was good!), but since I adore Kingdom Hearts, I'll definitely pick up FFXV if it's received positively.
Honestly at first I wasn't really sure. Granted I never played Duscae bc I didn't want to spoil anything but it all felt a bit meh....then....I watched this most recent trailer, and I am fully aboard the hype train
It went from almost an afterthought to top 3 most wanted for this year in a matter of minutes. Can't wait to try the platinum demo and I think that was sheer brilliance on Squares part for gifting carbuncle with the completion of platinum. I really hope this is the game where Square gets back on track and I trust tabata-san. Fingers crossed.
Simply can't wait tbh. Duscae was awesome, Platinum interesting and the expanded universe stuff is seemingly well thought out. FINAL FANTASY IS THE BIGGEST SHOW IN TOWN AGAIN
Still dling the demo but overall not interested, specially after reading comments here and having Xenoblade X untouched.
That girlless party looks so bland to me.
I thought the graphics were absolutely stunning, perhaps the best I have seen and the premise of the demo was cool.
However, the combat system wasn't really inspiring, it felt a bit simple, with no measure of skill and the standard enemies were not anything other than pin cushions to absorb mashed presses of circle. Perhaps I didn't pick up on the subtleties of it, or perhaps the demo didn't really explain the cool things you can do so well, I don't know.
The frame rate chugged repeatedly which sadly detracted from the otherwordly images.
Some of the music felt a bit "j-poppy", I found it personally irritating too, which was a bad reminder of XIII. It's nice the company gave us a demo, in the days of review embargos and "nothing is less than a 7 anyway", but sadly it's probably downgraded me from pre-order to "wait and see". The caveat should be that I have pre-ordered "No Man's Sky" , and the potential for getting burned on that is high, if I had a similar apathetic overall experience with a NMS demo that I had with the XV demo, I'd cancel that pre-order to be fair.
Though I really hope I am just being cautious and overall, it's a big return to form.
@Majic12
I'd be interested to see what your take is, after playing the demo, as it sounds like you were in a similar position to me.
