Those dreaded four words have returned: scheduled PlayStation Network maintenance. Nah, in all honesty, Sony's server spring cleans tend to occur with very little disruption these days. Indeed, while the platform holder will be whipping out its feather duster from 21:30PM PDT (05:30AM BST) through 23:30PM PDT (07:30AM BST) on Monday, 18th April (Tuesday, 19th April if you're overseas), you'll still be able to play your games online uninterrupted.
In fact, the only things that will be inaccessible throughout the duration of the designated time frame are Account Management, PlayStation Video, and the PlayStation Store. It's all good, then – keep calm and carry on.

To be honest, PSN maintenance is one of the things that 'generally' annoy me the most - especially as I now pay to access online services. I certainly wouldn't expect my BT, Electricity/Gas/, Sky etc services to be disrupted in anyway due to 'maintenance'.
This maintenance is very unlikely to affect me (or many others in the UK) at the time they intending. I still don't understand though why they can't do the maintenance in the background. At least its only affecting a small portion of the overall service...
@BAMozzy It's not really interrupted, though, is it? I'd agree with you if it went offline, but a couple of hours without the PlayStation Store isn't the end of the world.
I agree that it would be better if it wasn't there at all, though. But I mean, MMOs have maintenance periods just like this, too. It's not uncommon.
Maybe they are going to be pushing out the new store to everyone now
People never read to the part where it says that online gaming will not be effected. They just see "maintenance" and start raging.
@get2sammyb I know in this instance the maintenance is not disruptive to me in any way - I stated that in the second paragraph. The first paragraph was how I feel about the whole PSN Maintenance in 'general' - I use the word 'general' again. I have been affected by them in the past - if your not online when they start, it can prevent you from playing 'some' games in the way you want (i.e online). Seeing another announcement about Maintenance, I will admit, did initially cause me to feel a bit annoyed but having read the article, I realised that this particular one is unlikely to affect me (or many others in the UK) - mainly because of the time frame. Again in the past - a lot of maintenance has occurred at 'prime times' for us in the UK. The services that are affected - again this time - are unlikely to affect many people globally and certainly won't affect me.
I wasn't raging or being critical - the first paragraph, as I said, was how I feel about maintenance in general, the second was a response to this specific incident.
I personally don't play MMO's and the only game that I do have that has been affected by maintenance is Destiny. That too is very annoying and because of where Bungie are based, the timing is often more disruptive to players in the UK - I am sure other places are equally disrupted but I can't speak for them.
I still think many of these 'maintenance' periods could or should be performed in the background. I don't know what's involved so maybe they can't or maybe it would take longer for the companies. Often we don't actually hear what is involved or see any significant differences - sometimes those can also have more 'negative' impact post maintenance. I know that Destiny has had 'problems' after a few of its 'maintenances' with people getting kicked to orbit, struggling to log in etc.
I would prefer that IF a maintenance is scheduled and likely to disrupt any part of its service, a statement of intent, what's being changed/worked on etc was detailed. If Sony for example said that this 'maintenance' was going to add things like 'option to change name' (account management), or redesigned PS Store for example, people in general would be more forgiving and less likely to 'rage'
