Watch out, Naughty Dog – Uncharted 4: A Thief's End may be the best looking PlayStation 4 game to date, but Ratchet & Clank isn't far off. Insomniac Games has shown off 20 minutes of its movie tie-in on the official PlayStation YouTube channel – and it's a looker alright. The quality of the lighting, coupled with the busy skyboxes and sheer fidelity, give this the appearance of a CG movie brought to life.
This isn't just a graphical tour-de-force, though: the developer's also invested a ton of time into the weapon arsenal, including the introduction of the Pixelizer – a firearm which turns your foes into 8-bit sprites. This was something that it apparently wanted to add on the PlayStation 3, but the system didn't have enough power to pull it off. Oh, and there's a collectible card game stuffed in, too. Day one?

This looks absolutely fantastic, both visually and in gameplay.
Really looking forward to this! May not be able to get it day one but I'll definitely play it. You can't go far wrong with Ratchet and Clank, and this one looks great.
It's been a longtime since I've been hyped for a new R&C but I really can't wait to play it. Looks brilliant. It'll also be a nice change of pace from the darker games I'm playing like The Division and Quantum Break both great games but sometimes just plain fun is needed.
Day One? is that even a question that requires and answer? This is one of my most anticipated games for this generation. I've been following this series since its debut in 2004, across 3 systems. This is a re-imagining of the first game with more content added, new weapons and graphics close to a CGI movie. I am as excited for this as with Dark Souls 3.
Will probably pick up, but not a day one for me. Waiting for a sale
@get2sammyb And all of that is only $40, not $180.
Nice to see this finally pop up seeing as its out in 4 days, not 6 months.
And it would be day 1 for me, if, you know, I owned a PS4. I might have bought one for this if it were a full new $60 game and not simply a $40 reboot.
It is in this weeksTarget ad, right next to the 3DS. Maybe somebody in Target marketing saw the $39.99 and got confused? The DS3 pic is 4x as big, Uncharted 4 gets delayed but Dark Souls looms large, literally.
Generally, I am less impressed by 'cartoony' graphics and they tend to have far less 'little' details. Ratchet and Clank looks like the game I played back on the PS3 in my memory. To me at that time, I thought it was as 'good' as it looks today and therefore didn't think it was much of an improvement - better water and a few small improvements.
It wasn't until I saw a side by side comparison with the original game that the difference became clear. Its far more significant than my memory led me to believe.
Much as I like R&C and 3D platformers in general, I don't know if this will be a Day 1 purchase. Its one of those that are enjoyable, fun games but something I play if I want something 'light'. Kind of like watching the Simpsons because I don't feel like watching an intense movie or playing a 'lego' game instead of the Witcher 3....
Getting this and Dark Souls 3 the same day!
I had a free $20 credit so Preordered this for only $20 out of pocket.
@Elodin Sale? It's already being released at half price.
@WARDIE oh didn't realize it was. thanks for the info. Now I have to decide. I was about to buy Divinity Original Sin.
It would be day one if I had a PS4. And I'm wishing so hard that I would have one soon. I never want to miss out on R&C.
@DerMeister @rjejr I don't own a PS4 either, though I'm purposely waiting for the PS4 Slim or PS4.5 to be released, whichever comes out first.
That and my PS3 backlog is still ridiculously big.
See, this seems like the kinda game I would love. I'm a big fan of Nintendo platformers and adventure games and the like, so Im anxious to try this one out. Star Fox and Ratchet games releasing just 2 days apart- you'd think it was the early-2000's again...
First, I'll need to finish up Quantum Break and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, then run through Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation before I touch either of these games though.
@ToddlerNaruto @KingofSaiyanZ I'm really really good at putting off luxury purchases. I basically only buy things when they have a red clearance sticker on them at Target. We own about 8 Lego Dimension sets but we don't own the game yet, waiting to get it on PS4 b/c I'm afraid the Wii U version won't be supported going forward once NX releases.
I should be buying the U4 bundle, been waiting for that for what seems like a year now, but the $400 price for 500GB put me off. If a major retailer - Best Buy, Target, Toys R Us - offers U4 free w/ the Uncharted Trilogy bundle for $350 I may pick that up.
But then PS4k Ultra is looming. And FXV could get a bundle Sept 30th. My birthday is in July. And then $300 BF sales. So I don't know.
@rjejr I might cave in and finally buy a PS4 this Black Friday, preferably if it is the Slim or PS4K Ultra.
I've got this pre-ordered also. Looks amazing I've loved this series since the first game I hope the games not too short as the price suggests it might be.
Looks like fun. I've never played any R&C games before, and because I have pretty much decided to give The Division a miss, this is looking very tempting right now
@Neolit same here:D
Already preordered and I would have done had it been full price but for less than £30 it's a bargain. The game looks stunning and it's been a while since I played a good 3d platformer
@JaxonH Well Star fox does look like a 2000 release.
Seriously though, I do think SFZ has improved visually, and it gets the job done, but compared to R&C where you can play Where's Waldo in every lucious world, SFZ is a vast empty wasteland of a world.
@rjejr
I'm happy with Star Fox. I think it looks about like what you'd expect. Keep in mind though that Wii U is more like a PS3 in power than it is a PS4.
R&C looks amazing though, no question.
These games always look amazing. I will pick it up. Probably not day 1, as i am sure i will be already playing another game.
The contrast they used in the dark areas is really interesting and cool. I feel like I haven't seen an effect like that since maybe Wind Waker's own caves / fire areas.
@JaxonH The problem with Star Fox isn't that it's being limited by the system, it's that the Wii U has been demonstrated to be capable of a lot more. Compare the lighting and overall fidelity between SFZ and Mario Kart 8. Same system, but night and day in terms of graphics.
I was going to wait on it but as it's only £30 on PSN I'll get it day one.
@WARDIE This looks so good! This and Doom are pretty much the only purchases I plan to make for the forseeable future. If you can I would highly recommend picking this one up.
This, Dark Souls 3 and Yokai Watch this month X_X so many games, so little time!
I think this will be the first game I pre-order digitally. I know I will love it and I want that extra weapon. I normally don't support practices like that but since its a cheaper game and its the only way to get the extra weapon...Ugh
@JaxonH I think it has less to do w/ power, more to do w/ design choice. W101 has this on rails shooter sequence, just look at all the color and detail and background. They don't care about any of that in SFZ, it's all about remaking the first game in HD, not about aesthetics.

It starts about the 6 minute mark. Smoke and debris from crashing into buildings and destroying them is a nice touch.
Never really played these games on my PS2, was more of a Jak & Daxter type of guy but, I'm tempted to pick up the first one on my Vita just to give it a shot.
If there's one thing I think the current and last gen (360) lacked was games like this, so out of that point alone I'll think I'll pick this up at some stage.
Of course Rachet and Clank game is gonna rock. I just want the movie to be awesome pushing away the stigma of bad video game movies.
I pre-ordered this the second Amazon put it up. I'll definitely be too "sick" cough, cough for work when it arrives Tuesday!
