We're really looking forward to DOOM here at Push Square Towers, but if you're still sitting on the fence, then you may need to wait a little while for reviews. Bethesda has confirmed to IGN that it won't be sending out copies to critics ahead of release, because the title's online servers won't be switched on until Friday's launch. We've been told a similar thing.
"DOOM is a robust game comprised of a single player campaign, online multiplayer, and SnapMap," a spokesperson for the publisher said. "We believe that all three elements are important parts of the complete DOOM experience, and are meant to be experienced as part of a complete package. As DOOM's SnapMap and multiplayer modes both require access to a server that won't be live prior to launch, review copies will arrive on launch day."
Hmm, this is never the most positive sign, we must admit – but we're comfortable giving Bethesda the benefit of the doubt for now. We'll try to bring you some hands-on impressions as near to release as we possibly can.

Ugh...this with the exclusion of co op is not leaving me too positive. Though the beta was fun.
Alarm bells ringing. I'm not buying it until I get some trustworthy reviews. Their excuse for sending out code late is a poor one. I don't have much faith in Bethesda.
Not till I see a review. Nostalgia has burned me before. Doom's loss is UC4's gain - got an email from amazon saying it has been posted through the letterbox. Cannot wait to get home and Sully myself with it.
With Uncharted 4, Homefront: The Revolution, and Overwatch happening for me this month, I can happily wait for this one to be thoroughly played and reviewed before I buy. I'm hoping for the best here and to those buying on day one, please play the crap out of it and let us fence sitters know how good/bad it is.
Aw, now no - every website not named Push square got a review copy - comments.
Well, on the bright side, this review should be ready about the same time as all the others. But really, how much of a review should Doom need?
Or the campaign is rubbish, this is usually the reason for this type of behaviour. I hope I'm wrong because I'm looking forward to an old school type of shooter so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now
The beta was pretty boring for me. I'm hoping to campaign is decent but I won't be buying it anytime soon anyway.
I found the beta boring too.Had no fun in multiplayer at all and from what I've seen of the campaign I'm really not sold on this as much as when I first heard about it.
Won't be buying until a review...and if the review is rubbish obviously I won't be buying
I loved the beta but I'm not going to get it at launch tbh possibly not even this half of the year
That's certainly a bad sign. I was on the fence about the game then I watched it streamed by the devs and decided not to buy it.
I'll buy it on day one, I loved the beta and Wolfenstein was great (yeah I know, different developer under the same publishing arm).
Wolfenstein was awesome. I don't really see this being as good without the likes of BJ and Anya but I'm pretty confident it'll be at least "good". Will wait for reviews simply because I've got other stuff to play at the mo.
Don't forget the same thing happened with The Division...and on the whole that reviewed well. I'm still looking forward to this
@kyleforrester87
I've said it before, but I think Wolfenstein sometimes leaned a bit too much towards the story telling field vice gameplay.
That's what I want in Doom, story be damned, give me 6-9 hours of fast paced frags and gibs and I'll be happy.
the beta was lame, so...
@BodyW-outOrgans
You mean it was awesome, like if somebody took Quake 2 and brought it to 2016.....yup, I loved it.
-1 confidence.
@sub12 Really disagree with that, I loved the balance and the transition between serious/emotional and goofy as hell. The Old Blood scaled the narative right back and was all the worse for it IMO.
I do get what you mean though, the gameplay is very important. I just think Wolfenstein got it right on both fronts.
@kyleforrester87
Hnm, there is nothing wrong with an hour or two of game play without being interrupted by a cut scene, that's why I really liked the Old Blood.
Not everything needs a ton of narrative, gameplay trumps all in the end.
@sub12 I found nothing awesome about it whatsoever... but I am glad you did.
@sub12 Agree, my feelings on Uncharted 4 attest to that, but I still think New Order was well paced and had a nice balance.
Beta was a huge letdown, I can't see this game being good at all which is a shame I loved doom and was looking forward to it.
How was the beta a letdown!? These people, no taste None
" but we're comfortable giving Bethesda the benefit of the doubt for now."
Seriously anyone remember the classic PS3 game Rogue Warrior.
Review embargo no review copy = a steaming pile turd.
Just look at the Steam Beta reviews.
My biggest gripe with all gaming press is the wow looks good great promising then OMG another disc shaped turd
.
Or you could, you know, send the review copies, have the reviewers take on the SP and then put an embargo until the servers are live.
Still excited about it, but will wait for reviews too. Couldn't try the beta.
I really hope they bring the old school design with the campaign and don't make it like the Shadow Warrior reboot or Painkiller. Though I'm a bit worried that they will take that route seeing how they IMO dumbed down the multiplayer compared to older shooters like Quake and UT.
I only play the campaign. Not into mult-player games. But even if the campaign has very bad review, i still purchase it because it doom.
This might not necessarily be a bad thing. All too often a game is reviewed well and then hits the streets and then we find out that the multiplayer portion of the game completely collapses. It'll be nice to get reviews that will genuinely reflect the quality of the retail package at launch.
No need for Reviews. SNAPMAP makes this endless fun. Already installed on my PS4.
