Widely regarded as one of the best, and perhaps most influential Japanese role-playing games of all time, Chrono Trigger lives on in the hearts of many, even two decades after its original release on the SNES. The time-travelling adventure was ported to the PSone around the beginning of the century.
Much like Final Fantasy VII, the title remains an iconic landmark in the genre's history, so it's no surprise that fans are latching onto director Takashi Tokita's recent comments. In an interview with Game Informer, Tokita mentions that he'd "love to see a high-quality, high-end version of Chrono Trigger", adding that he'd even go for "a movie production, or something of the sort". Get this man millions of dollars - there's no time to waste!
To be honest, we'd be pretty happy with a PlayStation 4 or Vita port of the original, but you know how awkwardly Square Enix rolls. Are you a fan of Chrono Trigger? Travel through time and assemble a ragtag party of freaks in the comments section below.

For me Chronograph Trigger has the best battle music out of any JRPG
That'd work
They should release an HD bundle with Cross, even if it is only mildly HD.
I have them both on PS1 discs, does PS4 play PS1 discs?
"To be honest, we'd be pretty happy with a PlayStation 4 or Vita port of the original"
while i have the DS remake (the UK never got the SNES original) i would love a Vita or PS4 version
@FullbringIchigo technically there is the wii vc SNES version in the UK which is how I get my Chrono fix.
@Draythedestroyer true it is on VC but it was never released on the SNES over here, the first version we got was the DS version
@rjejr no, it doesn't play ps1 discs.
I actually wouldn't mind a remake of this. Loved this one. Hated Chrono cross.
@ztpayne7 Thanks. I wonder if my PS1 still works? It's in the box somewhere, b/c with 2 PS3 I put it away.
@JoeBlogs Thanks, 1 of these days I'm really going to need to research the PS4 more before I buy one and get disappointed. Nothing will stop me from getting one, just that I should probably know what I can't do on it that I can do on my 2 PS3.
@JoeBlogs I was close to getting a new PS4 for Uncharted, but the $400 price and only 500GB in the US vs 1TB in the EU gave me pause, and then the Neo rumours put my purchase on hold. My birthday is in July, but I'll save my money for FFXV. It will have a bundle I'm sure, and Neo may be out by then. I figure Sony will want to do something special to get people buying FFXV on Sony hardware rather than MS hardware. Competition is good, though it still makes me nauseous that FF is on MS hardware.
Hmm, I've never played chrono trigger. Won't be surprised if this will happen.
Just make Chrono Break, or whatever it was going to be called.
Loved this game but only ever played it once.absolutely loved the soundtrack and I still have the soundtrack cds that I foolishly paid alot of money for to be sent from America..spent more on the delivery than the item..
Would love an upgraded version of the game for the ps4 and a sequel would be awesome!..unless it was like Crono Cross, which was a huge dissapointment.
I'm conflicted. I would to see something done with Chrono Trigger considering it is my favorite game of all time, but on the other hand I fear they would turn into a crappy cinematic action game kinda like they're doing with Final Fantasy 7.
I'm guilty of never having played it. I'd prefer a HD version of the original over an action style remake.
It seems JRPG fans go nuts over anything these days
I was never a huge fan of Chrono Trigger. I like it, it's a good game, but it never seemed that special to me. I liked how it confidently tried new things out, like the fact the battles take place in the regular field view (something that modern JRPGs like SO5 are still boasting about) but not a single one of the characters made an impression on me. They all felt very flat and one-note. I mean, I can't even remember their names in most cases. There are no "Remember that time when the princess did THAT?" parts. You just trot from place to place on a kind of tourbus through 4 timezones or whatever and that's that.
