Wow! This just looks… Phenomenal, doesn't it? Gameplay footage of Battlefield 1 is appearing all over the place, and while this mostly just focuses on the assault class without any real vehicle gameplay, we figured that it was worth sharing because it gives a good overview of the large-scale battles that you can expect to find in the World War I shooter.
This is running on a PC, so don't expect it to look quite this polished on the PlayStation 4, but the sense of spectacle is outrageous. We love the way the dynamic weather completely changes the mood and feel of the battle, while the destructible environments give the impression that you're fighting in a real, well, battlefield. Very impressive stuff.

Honestly...no. Graphically it's very polished, but for starters that frame rate is - and I'd never thought I'd say this - just too high. Felt dizzy just watching it. And for all the talk of realism, shooters these days still think that it's realistic to be able to spin on the spot, run and shoot all at the same time like you're playing Unreal Tournament. It breaks the immersion IMO, it would be so much more interesting (not to mention skillful and strategic) if they addressed this. It looks prettier but there is zero progression in game design and personally, I find it dull.
Looks fantastic I think. Between this and the COD4 remaster im set for FPS games.
It looks almost exactly as I expected it too - right down to the game-play. This could easily have been BF5 with just a WW1 reskin and that's essentially all it is. It has a few 'new' features, like every new BF game, in this case most significant is the 'Dynamic Weather' (a replacement to levelution??) and a few things made possible by new hardware - like the bringing down of a Zeppelin and that staying on the map - but essentially its still Battlefield. All the same on screen messages - looks like a more contemporary font to the era but its still like the previous BF games - Thankfully we shouldn't get Helicopters that just sit over the enemy spawn and just destroy vehicles as they spawn - If its someone on your team - it gets boring and if its the enemy, it gets frustrating and tedious.
Its still my third choice FPS game this winter and if the Fog ruins frame rates (like Fallout 4's and the Witcher 3) then I certainly won't be buying it before I get a Neo/Scorpio...
Its a Frostbite 3 game so don't expect anything better than 900/60 on PS4 (720/60 on XB1) and probably most of the lighting/shadows/reflections/particle effects etc turned down as well...
Fantastic, poops on all so far. Very stylish, I wonder how well it's gonna go down with the kids that have been playing Sci fi shooters for so long now.
Does look nice, but I agree, it's just too fast really for what I think a Battlefield game should be.
@kyleforrester87 Maybe trying to all those CoD fans who wanted a 'boots on the ground' historic setting FPS game.
A game for them to run around, drop/jump shotting, no/quick scoping, trick shotting and whinge that someone is camping (even though they are playing tactically and defending objectives), that 'x' vehicle is OP or 'y' weapon needs a buff, wanting 'flak' jacket to survive a direct explosive or a perk to make your footsteps silent/stay off the radar etc...
When they find out its still BF, abandon it to buy CoD:IW/CoD4 - not that EA will complain because they would have got their money anyway...
@BAMozzy Well as you say it's just a reskin of a fast paced modern shooter, they would have had to have changed it quite substantially at its basic level to slow things down and turn it into a thinking mans shooter. Shame really.
@JoeBlogs @SegaBlueSky I could only watch the first minute or so, thought YouTube had a fast forward button that I accidentally hit.
Now I don't play any FPS, only 3rd person, so I suppose thats a normal speed, but it all looked way fast to me. Not only way too fast but way to smooth, I didn't even see any head bob, somebody running around that fast would be bobbing, weaving, stumbling, tripping, jumping, hopping, all of that stuff, this was just a bee zooming around, no feet on the ground.
Lara and Drake are always scrambling about, ducking and weaving, changing speeds, run, sprint, jog, I like that better.
Just tried watching it again, 30 seconds in was all I could take.
This is how a multiplayer FPS should run

@rjejr Glad I wasn't the only one! I mean each to their own and everything, but I just don't get it. Anyone that ran around a battlefield like that would end up flat on their face and, well, dead. You'd think the gun was attached to BB-8 or something!
On a side note, this kind of FPS game is exactly why I think VR could make a huge improvement. Force you to look around rather than just spin on the spot like a lunatic.
@kyleforrester87 I have never though of BF as being the 'thinking mans' shooter. I have always seen it as much more of a team based shooter with more realistic tactical engagements. I know you get the odd unrealistic gamplay, like jumping out of an aircraft, no scope rocket launching at something before getting back in the aircraft mid air and flying off - but because you have specific classes like Medic, Assault etc, then there is more emphasis on squad and team work - chucking out ammo, med pacs and reviving team mates, repairing team mates vehicles, spotting enemies - of course it helps if you have a mic and use it but the general engagements are more 'grounded' in reality than CoD's more arcade style. That doesn' mean that CoD has no tactical approach and doesn't benefit from communication and team-work - particularly on the Objective modes but with things being faster paced, condensed into a smaller area and uncontrollable spawn system (although you can control them in a good team), you have to be more reactive and think faster. I played a lot of Clan wars and there was a lot of tactics, thinking, planning, roles assigned etc.
This and Tintanfall 2 will do me for shooters this winter. Sorry COD you aint getting my money this year.
This does look phenomenal, especially with the environments. Love how the music is classicly orchestral instead of dubstep, too. That's a relief for me! (ha ha)
Made me dizzy after 1 minute
Look's pretty awsome i'll have to see more though as it look's a little TO fast for a BF game which make's me worry it's going to be to much like BFH which was no BF game at all, more CoD/BF in one. Need to see more, this is pretty much a confirmed PC game for me as I should have my rig by October time.
Looks to be running a little high frame rate wise(unless its my damn console peasant eyes) i hope they adress it somehow and make the weapons and aiming slower to handle...ive played bf since day one and prefer its "heavier" handling so fingers crossed it will all come good
@SegaBlueSky BB-8 Best comment of the day. And spot on too.
@JoeBlogs I've played half of both Bioshock and Infinite (I'm easily distracted), and nether seemed like a FPS shooter to me, more like a puzzle solving adventure game in FP view. Though maybe I'm just doing it wrong.
Pre-ordered this morning for £34.85 , first game I've pre-ordered since BF4. Unashamedly a Battlefield fanboy , own every single one except Hardline.
