Dead Rising's never really felt like a PlayStation franchise. The original launched too early for the PlayStation 3, despite it getting "ported" to the Nintendo Wii. Dead Rising 2 and spin-off Off the Record did hit Sony's system, but the game's prequel episodes were exclusive to the Xbox 360. And then, of course, Dead Rising 3 launched as an Xbox One exclusive.
So, it's unlikely that Dead Rising 4 will deploy on the PlayStation 4, but we're reporting on this leak just in case. Artwork from the forthcoming sequel has arrived online, with no platforms attached. It looks like the title will feature photographer Frank West again, and according to some online murmurs, is a re-imagining of the original release.
Everything that we've heard on the grapevine suggests that this one is coming to the Xbox One and Windows 10 only, but Capcom's earnings reports pointed to an unannounced title that it expects to move two million units, which may hint at some multiformat hopes after all. Indeed, that's a pretty big number for an exclusive – although it famously predicted the same for Street Fighter V.

I'd be asking the same question if this was rumoured to be a PS4 exclusive, so don't roast me... But: does anyone care about Dead Rising?
I can't believe this series is entering its fourth instalment.
Hopefully MS picked up the tab again. Dead Rising 3 was great, so I definitely look forward to more.
@Gamer83 Apparently there's one of you out there, then!
Personally I thought Dead Rising 2 was great. Dead Rising 1&3 I never got to really play since I don't own any Xbox consoles. However, it'd be a bit dumb to make it an MS exclusive at this point. There's a significantly larger install base on the PS4 than Xbox One, so their sales could possibly hit that mark being multiplat. While Street Fighter V was a PS4 console exclusive, and failed to move units (maybe if they actually completed the game before release), I feel like Dead Rising 4 would do quite well as a multiplat.
This is a mediocre at best series. Surely this game would benefit more by being on multiple systems. As it's not exactly a system seller. Capcom really make dumb decisions.
@get2sammyb
Dead Rising 3 sold over 1 mil last I knew. It's not the most popular series but there are those of us who like it.
@get2sammyb well 5th if you count the rehash of DR2 with Frank West in it
Id like to play DR on PS4 but i wont be losing sleep if it stays xb (console) exclusive
That said surely it would be in the devs best interest to put it on the system under 40 million tvs
The only Dead Rising game I enjoyed was Off The Record.Personally I think Frank West is an annoying D**k so couldn't bear spending so much time with him.
If it's an Xbox exclusive then it makes no business sense whatsoever at this point.
Loved the first 2 Dead Risings, the 3rd game was the only game i wanted to play on Xbox and even though it's primarily an Xbox stores do you really think that Capcom would be stupid enough to make the next exclusive again?
@Wazeddie22 this this this
If it is a re-imagining of the first game wouldn't a multi-platform release make sense?? Especially considering they are shooting for 2 million copies?? The first one was the only one I played and it was decent. The sandbox aspects of it were great ... Some of the story bits, not so much. My $0.02.
@get2sammyb I don't care, I prefer devil may cry, resident evil, street fighter, megaman and okami from capcom.
If it is Xbox/PC exclusive (which I'm certain it will be), then it makes sense from the perspective that Microsoft will be funding it. Capcom's really in a financial hole right now, so the game may not exist without a platform holder's investment.
@get2sammyb I was interested in the first one as it looked like something different. I only had a PS3 so I wasn't able to play it. Already I was turned off to the franchise for that reason.
The second one seemed like more of the same, and the fact that the chapters that would have helped me to better understand the story were XBox exclusive didn't help to get me excited.
Then the third game was another Microsoft exclusive. Not that I was interested anyway.
Even if this one launches on the PS4 (I'm sure it would at LEAST be an XBone timed exclusivity) I wouldn't be at all interested. I don't want to play bits of a franchise and not be able to play the rest if I wanted to. That and I think I'm bored of the concept at this point.
I don't know much about the first game's main character. I remember the second game's was a motocross guy. Not something I'm interested in. Then the next was a pro wrestler if I recall? I can't think of anything that could kill my interest more quickly. Maybe if they were also a Trump supporter?
What's the protagonist in the next one going to be? You go from motocross to professional wrestling to what? Nascar driver? Cow tipper? Pass.
I did like the playstyle of it. But i see no reason to post something that'll be reasonably unlikely to show up on ps4. If it were announced multiplat. Then like to see this kind of news.
The Dead Rising games are 'fun' but are hardly great games and award winners. They are probably 7-8 rated games - just good average fun! I much prefer them to Dead Island though.
Dead Rising 3 was a launch exclusive for XB1 bur did get a release on PC later on so its possible a sequel could sell 2m if it releases on both again. I know a lot of my friends really enjoyed 3 and think it was their favourite launch game this gen...
Owning both, I couldn't care less what console (if any) has exclusivity and no doubt, if it does release on PS4, some people will enjoy it as a bit of fun...
1st game was fun, the second was rubbish until they put the original guy back in but to be honest I'm not really bothered about the franchise.
I like Deadrising and always wanted to try DR3 more for the Street fighter super arcade edition DLC, that looked nuts! I would love a DR game on the PS4!
@get2sammyb I've tried, dear God I've tried, but the mechanics are clunky as hell, and I hate being forced through the games due to constant time issue. So yeah, not for me. I even finished 3 out of sheer desperation, as there was nothing else on XB1 at the time
Never played one of these games, honestly not bothered either way if it comes to PS4. So many zombie / post apocalypse games these days. A lot of them look the same. Give me more scifi and space games.
I could care less personally, but I still think that this is a franchise that should be on as many formats as possible. Especially if Capcom wants to make a good chunk of change from it.
@get2sammyb: i agree that Capcon's financial situation may be the deciding factor for an exclusive. Why else would Capcon pass on the PS4? Maybe a prior contract with MS has any future DR games as MS exclusives?
I rented DR2 when it was released on PS3, and i hated the beat the clock time limits. No DR no big deal as Dead Island 2 and or Dying Light 2 will be on the PS4.
why just the xbox not ps4 if was a game company no way would i go with the xbox i would not sell enough games.
@shadowman1 because microsoft threw a a ton of cash in the developers direction . To Alleviate any fears of lost revenue through being console exlusive See titantfall. See Tomb raider ROTTR.
I really dont get why some of u guys are suprised. Afterall Dead rising 3 was XBOX1 exclusive because M$ paid a ton of cash.
I recall playing a dead rising game donkeys years ago, thought it was garbage. Good luck to anyone that picks it up though.
Dead Rising is one of my favorite series by Capcom. It's one of the main reasons why I got a Xbox One,
It would be bizarre if this was ps4 exclusive
Dead Rising 1 - forgivable for its time due to the concept and that nothing like it had been done at the time.
Dead Rising 2 - a fantastic sequel with all of the issues smoothed out, and a main character who had a real motivation to get behind.
After that, there really isn't much point. I'm not so bothered by this.
@get2sammyb its a good game and is still selling well
