The PlayStation 4 continues to perform beyond even Sony's expectations, we know that much, but how's PlayStation Plus doing these days? The premium service, which is required to play most PS4 games online, has had its fair share of critics over the years, but the Japanese company has always been keen on racking up more profit in the digital space, and PlayStation Plus continues to be a big part of the firm's plans in that area.
During its latest investor briefing, Sony revealed that there are now over 20 million PlayStation Plus subscribers - a figure that's seen consistent growth year-on-year, and with PS4 sales beyond the 40 million unit mark at this point, we can only imagine that the numbers will keep increasing as we move further into the console's life.
So, are you a PlayStation Plus subscriber? Are you happy with the service? Get your calculators out in the comments section below.

Thought the take up would be higher thats only 50% of PS4 owners who subscribe
I must admit I am surprised its as low as this considering its now required for online gaming on PS4! So many games have online components - some require it just to play any part so expected it to be more than under 50% of the PS4 owners. I don't know if anyone with a PS3 only have PS+ which would obviously bring down the percentage of PS4 owners with it...
Lets be honest PSPlus has been brilliant the last 3 months and long may it continue! Come on Sony keep it up and ditch PSVR.
I ended up just letting it run out. I wasn't paying 14.99 a month for one game. :/
I do not really play the psplus games anymore but the online part I use a lot
While next month is the best in ages, if they dont continue to improve i wont be renewing my subscription. Its just not worth it anymore
@BLPs You can get it for £35 for a year. I hope you dont mean you were buying a monthly sub EVERY single month...
I rarely play online with the exception of playing diablo 3 coop with my friend, I bought ps plus for the free ps4/psvita games and psn discount.
@solocapers Every three months. Wasn't gonna plop down a year one I'm unsure about given how spotty PSN has been in past years of my using it. But as it stands, I'm paying 14.99 every 3 months for one game. Andon't that's just uneconomical:p
@dryrain Honestly curious, why would you think it should be higher? 25-50% is already an absurd attach rate.
You are likely coming at this as a person that plays lots of online multiplayer games, and think that everyone else does too, because all of your friends do. The lions share of console games are not online multiplayer games, and even most of the ones that are, are just "multiplayer additions to a single player game". Which means that the vast majority of console gamers have no need to pay for a service to play their games online, because they do not play their games online. Bonus: many Playstation 4 games can be played online without PS+, like one of my daily drivers: FFXIV.
The IGC (for PS4) is also not enough of a draw for PS+ for most people.
I have had PS+ since day one, but I only use it for online saves. Out of my entire library of games (and I am a pretty active gamer) only a few have online functionality, and the ones I actually play regularly do not require PS+. I occasionally play an online game that requires PS+, but thats just because I already have PS+ and would never have bought it for that reason.
All this to say that 25%-50% is absolutely a crazy number already, and I would be surprised if it wasn't more like 10% with the other 15 million being PS3 users since they actually have a decent IGC.
Although an impressive number, Xbox Live subscriptions dwarfs it by over 48 million as of January this year.
@MaccaMUFC Does that include xbox live silver (the free one), or xbox live gold only (the $60 one)? Microsoft is the master of spinning number.
@BLPs maybe be smart and pay 49.99 for a year that is like 4 something a month.......
@Neolit I think you get your money out of it and i did not have it on the PS3. How cheap can people be door less then €5 a month I get my money worth with the sales only.
