That's the Microsoft E3 2016 briefing done and dusted, then, where the showing centred on games such as Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, and ReCore. It was a strong if unsurprising show for Microsoft, though obviously the sheer number of leaks didn't help. The manufacturer closed on Project Scorpio, an interative hardware upgrade due in late 2017 that promises plenty of power – but further details are on lockdown right now.
But what did you think of what the Redmond firm had to show – and can Sony top it later today? Post your reaction from a PlayStation perspective in the comments section below, and don't forget to vote in our poll.

I don't think So... I want scorpio so bad Well, maybe the Ps4 Neo with 8 teraflops of power ?
Sounded like a decent show, didnt see much of it though.
Hmm I feel like it could definitely be a close run race this year, certainly a stronger showing than Microsoft has had in a while.. hopefully Sony can pull out some good surprises.
Since I don't really care for new console versions, Sony can easily do it, just give us good games. Only exclusive I cared from MS was Scalebound!
( and sea of theaves, untill I saw the ingame footage :/ )
@Sanquine What is it that's making you want Scorpio? I'm not poo-pooing it in the slightest, but it struck me all they have is a concept for a product coming in 18 months.
Sony is gonna destroy them easily. Just God of War IV and Dead Don't Ride will do.
Also "most powerful console ever" is a very easy/silly claim to make when you're a year and a half from even releasing the console.
Scorpio BABY, can't wait, unless ofc Sony release a better console.
@get2sammyb Agree really, anything announced console spec wise by either company can easily change in that length of time. Whatever happens I expect both companies will end up with similar hardware releasing around the same period to be honest.
Dunno
Is Dead Rising 4 multiplat? I saw the Xbox One and PC label at the end, but no exclusive tag.
Easily. Ms didnt really show many decent games there. Just stuff we alread knew about. There wasnt one megaton in the whole thing. Announcing a console with no concrete info is just desperate.
@get2sammyb i don't know? Power of a Pc in a console but your right. Games Wise nothing New was shown
you know what i think MS might have dropped the ball on their foot a bit beause if from now on all xbox exclusive games work on Windows 10 PC with crossplay, why would you need to buy a Xbox One, Xbox S, or Scorpio?
Tbh I thought MS's show was a bit average.
Scalebound and Horizon 3 look nice, gears bores me to tears and Scorpio just confirms that we now have shorter console cycles...
@FullbringIchigo That's exactly what I thought but they would have thought of that so must have a decent reason. Maybe they want to do away with consoles eventually and just be a content creator on PC ultimately?
I might grab Horizon 3 on PC now...
Except for Project Scorpio that relaly turned me on, and maybe Sea of Theives, the conference was pretty boring...
@UVUVYCTXUHIV
That's what I thought. Just a bunch of games we've already seen over the past 3 years. And why wait 18 months for a new console? Everything's coming to PC. You can put together a PC more powerful than Scorpio right now.
@Sanquine First time ive even consider buying an Xbox console Sony has some work to do to match this !
@Sanquine First time ive even consider buying an Xbox console Sony has some work to do to match this !
@get2sammyb For me ive got a 4k Tv and i VR excite me ! So i need a console powerful enough to deliver that !
Scorpio is a beast. I actually want one. The fact you can play Xbone games on it as well as 360 games is fantastic. However the games Microsoft presented are of little interest. I much prefer Sony's lineup. However the power of Scorpio is very enticing.
@FullbringIchigo honestly you have a point, but considering Windows 10 as a platform if ms can figure out a way to get a steam app on the Xbox which has full access to your library and monopolize the steam machine market while also unifying the pc and console market outside of Sony and Nintendo it could be a very huge advancement.
God Microsoft's show sounded boring + same old boring Exclusive games that can all be played on PC to now so what is the point of the Xbox ONE I still think.
@Neolit just don't forget that the controller reportedly isn't included in that neat $299 price tag (we'll have to wait to find out I suppose), but as for the rest of it I agree with you.
@stevie85 The power of Scorpio does look strong but how much would an 8-core CPU console with 6 teraflops of processing power cost? Quite a lot is my guess...
As someone with an Xbox and PS4, I wasn't overly bothered by a lot of the games shown. The Slim has no appeal as I have an XB1 but its a nice design and better featured XB1. Gears 4, Forza Horizon, Dead Rising 4, Recore, Halo Wars 2 and Scalebound were my highlights game wise but Scorpio's announcement dropped my jaw to the floor - I really can't wait!! 6tflops, 4k gaming, great memory bandwidth etc - I hate to say it but its what I really wanted.
For Sony to top that, I think they would have to go some. The impact of that at the end was incredible and unexpected Games wise, its entirely possible that Sony could announce more games that appeal and in truth MS had nothing that appeals as much as Horizon: ZD but whether they will have something that drops my Jaw - especially as they are not expected to announce Neo and I am struggling to think of anything that could be announced to have that impact.
I guess if you are purely 'Sony', then it won't be hard for the presser to beat MS's. As a gamer first and foremost, I found it exciting and something to really look forward too. People saying its still 18 months away etc, also have to remember that Software hasn't come out that gets announced years ago - let alone a powerful new console that 'could' be brought forward if the market place needs it...
As I said MS's delivered for gamers - not just Xbox gamers but PC too. Its developing a console that can compete (in a play space) with PC's - open up a whole new and much larger user base. No longer be restricted to playing with just 'console' owners and therefore potential online issues like Ping, reduced lobbies etc. Whether PC gamers are as happy to have their lobbies occupied by console owners too or not but the benefits must outweigh the negatives...
@lacerz MS have pretty much given people no reason to own an xbox.
At least ps4 has actual exclusives which wont come to pc.
@Dodoo XB1 and PS4 already have an 8 core CPU - depends on Clock speed and efficiency - if its Zen and 3+ghz that's going to be incredible. Polaris (AMD480) is around $230 (8GB model) and can deliver around 5Tflops - GTX1080 is around 7Tflops and around $700 but the 1070 is around $380 and probably about 6Tflops. Of course that is retail price to the public - buying direct from manufacturer can cut that right down (not wholesalers/middlemen and shop overheads/profits)
@Dodoo True. If it really came down to it I could probably build a superior PC for a similar amount of money.
Not a bad showing by MS, but the games they showed we already knew about like Scalebound, Recore, Cuphead. Looking forward to those and of course Dead Rising 4. Nice to know that Tekken 7 will be coming to Xbox One, but I will probably just end up getting it on PS4. If Sony announces some new games that catch my interest then I might say that might be the better show. Oh, I still wanna see what Nintendo is gonna do.
@Neolit okay apparently all xbox one s purchases will include the new controller, but the $299 will be "arriving thereafter" the $399 and $349 version which will be on sale in August. So no real release date for the golden $299 price (all info from the official xbox news website)
I thought it was pretty average. A laughable new console, some decent games but noting spectacular for me, ReCore looked a bit dull but Scale bound is definitely a GOTY candidate, reminds me of Dragons Dogma.
Then the Scorpio announcement...that single handedly saved the show for me, what an amazing end! It's a phenomenal unrivaled console powerhouse, Sony just have to get enough sales and popularity garnered before its release to convince gamers that the cheaper, popular option of PS4 is the better choice.
@Evo_van_Dave yeah, especially now that they are showing their cards and allowing Sony time to match or exceed Scorpio if it isn't already.
@morrisseymuse but Sony are already working on the "Neo" which is basically the same thing as the Scorpio so they already have an answer for it
I think Sony's conference will be dominated by awkward VR demos so I think it won't beat Microsoft's
@UVUVYCTXUHIV I was thinking that. Why buy an XBO if I already have a W10 PC
8 CPU cores. 320GB/s memory bandwidth. 6TFLOPS GPU, True 4k gaming. High-fidelity VR, Xbox One. Xbox One S. Project Scorpio. ALL compatible with each other. Accessories and games will work on all three Crossplay and crossbuy too with Win 10
@BAMozzy - thanks for the info!
@shonenjump86 - I wouldn't expect much more from Nintendo than Zelda & Pokemon otherwise you may be disappointed...
Sony can def top it. And I have to say this with the XBO S, notice that it said an UP TO 2T HD and STARTING AT $299? That says to me, there will be more than one option Slim and more than one price point. The 2T HD one will prob be $350 or even $400
@DualWielding Agreed there, unfortunately. Not that I'm anti-VR but it obviously doesn't demo very well. Hope they don't go mad with it.
The strange thing with the MS presentation is that if you don't have a One and you have a decent PC there is no need to buy a One...
Sony only has to sho their exclusive games.... there instant in since Xbo pretty much has none at this point
@FullbringIchigo The strongly rumoured specs for the Neo aren't as powerful as the Scorpio though. The best thing Sony could do is bulk up the Neo hardware as a counter.
@Evo_van_Dave Thanks for the update on the info, especially the price, I was wondering how they were doing all of that for $299, guess they arne't.
Wii U still looks horrible at $299 though.
But seriously, how the F#$%^ do you sell a console w/o a controller? I have an Xbox 360 controller hooked up to my PC, but selling a console w/o a controller of any type is just absurd. If Ntieod wants to sell Wii U for $199 w/o the Gamepad but a Pro instead, I'm OK w/ that, but you need a controller. Diffeent prices for different HDD sizes makes sense.
The only ting I can think of is they want people to make those - "Design your own" controller, but they'd still need a coupon in the box to get it for free, maybe w/ S&H. .
@FullbringIchigo i thought so too! Why buy a Xbox now? All the exclusives are coming to PC and there's a much more powerful machine coming out in 18 months...
Most of the game's weren't bad buy a lot of them can be played on the PC. Scalebound is the only Xbox game that's tempting me on getting an Xbox Scorpio. I'm already tired of Halo, Gears and Forza.
Though, the Xbox Scorpio was pretty great. Something that Sony need to prepare for. I wouldn't mind much about PS now if only the prices weren't ridiculously high and the atrocious input lag. If Sony manages to announce some new exclusives (good ones of course. Don't want it to be a tech demo or some rushed project). And swear to god, Sony better announce Crash 4. If not, then a GoW4, Spiderman, Dead Don't Ride and other stuff would be great. Especially since I heard that From is making another Ps4 exclusive. Based on their upcoming projects, I wonder if it'll be King's Field 5. I mean, it is an ARPG ala Dark Souls but with first person Combat. That, and of course, it's a first person game so more likely that it is one of those games that support VR.
Another thing I would be glad for Sony to do is atleast a price cut for the Ps4, because I doubt people would buy a $500 Ps4 and even a $400 if the vanilla Ps4 cost $400 as well.
I thought xbox had a good showing tbh find it strange that everyone is so hyped for a 4th Forza on XB1 no matter how good they are couldnt it have been DLC? Gears 4 looked good, jealous that PS4 isnt getting Cuphead as well
Funny that they annouced a slim console then made it completely redundant an hour and a half later, also that the XB s doesnt come with a pad mate told me its says so in the small print but ive not checked
@morrisseymuse true but they have plenty of time to do that
@belmont I told myself the exact same thing ! i got a good PC and a PS4, why the hell would i buy an XBox!
Was an alright showing, nothing got me buzzing about MS's conference though.
Now I need to see what everyone else is showing.
If Sony has a Sucker Punch Spidey game up their sleeves, now's the time. If they open with that they could have a random guy juggling bowling pins on stage for the rest of the hour and it would still go down as best presentation of the year.
I honestly think Sony is going to 'win' this if they focus on games. They knew Microsoft would be announcing new hardware that is still on the drawing board. They already said "yeah we're working on an iterative upgrade, but nothing to show right now' so the ball is in their court there. If they just focus on awesome games, that's all anyone really wants right now.
I just hope they don't have a 20 minutes PSVR presentation with two people in headsets on stage. That's boner killer right there. I'm as excited about PSVR as anyone, but VR isn't a spectator sport.
@Swiket I think they just got some wires crossed, it seems clear that they intend every version to include a controller. But their actual E3 video has a disclaimer in fine print saying "stand and controller sold separately" just a slip up I'd assume.
All sony have to do to beat xbox conference is NOT announcing every exclusive game they had will go to pc, rendering their console irrelevant. Oh and also not announcing the new 4x more powerfull ps4 that will launch next year.
Microsoft's show was about as exciting as watching a snail cross a sidewalk in real time so I don't think it will be hard to beat.
All Sony has to do is announce 3 different systems, and they will have Microsoft's beat. I mean come, just announcing two new consoles for the next 18 months? It's like they think the consumers are cheap. We have tons of money to burn. TONS.
@Swiket Thanks, guess I ranted for nuthin, as usual.

@Dodoo
Yeah, I heard Zelda will be like the only playable Wii U game and no news on the NX. Kinda hoping they release Mother 3, but I won't be surprised if that doesn't happen.
Really solid show from Microsoft,.....Forza Horizon 3, I wish Sony had it instead of GT Sport......Gears looked great as well.
I love the fact that you can download 360 games to your HD (not a new feature, but something that I wish PS4 had vice PSNow).
I'll probably have a better idea within the next two or three months if I'm going to jump ship to MS, outside of Naughty Dog and Driveclub, no Sony exclusives have grabbed me so far this gen (Horizon looks promising as well). Let's see if that changes tonight.
The big thing to take from MS's show was no new exclusives and when more and more are going to PC then it hurts the xbox brand.
@adf86
It's for sure becoming a joint Xbox / Win10 platform......I can deal with that as long as Microsoft stays invested in developing and publishing first and second party titles.
It's not a matter of console VS PC for me.....it's just, which console best suits my needs and wants? I'm sure I'm not the only one to think like that.
@sub12 I don't doubt that, I was looking at it more from a perception thing, especially away from the core gaming space.
The only way I get really excited with Sony conference are games coming out this yr. I don't get excited about games coming out if it's yrs from now. For all I know a game project to release yrs from now could get cancelled.
@sub12 I will never buy a xbox since I dont like their exclusives but they had a good show. MS is listening to their fans and sony better do the same. I hope Sony has some exclusives like Spider-Man and less shootem up games since I am tired of the division type game.
MS Scorpio sounds like a beast and the Xbox slim plays 4K already coming out in August fur $300. How is Sony going to top this when they don't even want talk about neo?
@Ewflex
Yeah, it's kind of odd that all of the talk has been.....how can Sony release the Neo without T'ing off the current user base? MS talked about the Scorpio today and I don't think anybody threw up a fist in anger, but I reckon a lot of that is due to the fact that Xbox is the underdog this generation.
@sub12 yeah it's crazy how know one is mad MS is asking you to buy a $300 system this yr then next the Scorpio that could cost $500. Like you said people are more mad with Sony since why tamper with success and make us feel we want the best new console.
I'm interested in finding out if PSVR can handle the original ps4. Maybe neo was necessary for PSVR but the people who preordered the PSVR should be the ones pissed off Ps4 is too weak of a system for PSVR without a upgrade.
I didn't preorder PSVR since I would never even think about getting the PSVR without playing the demos to find out if I like PSVR and if I wouldn't get sick.
@Neolit I completely agree. Xbox s looks like a good holiday purchase to me. Dont know if that will hurt ps4 or ps4k but I feel it will def hurt the Scorpio. But whose to say. Really like the looks of scale bound and deadrising.but more interested In past xbone titles and the backwards compatibility, yeah gunstar heros!!!
Literally no pleasant surprise at all on Microsoft E3 2016. None.
Scalebound gameplay is rather disappointing.
Everything going to PC too.
@Ewflex
I'm going to guess that the base PS4 will not be the optimal way of enjoying PSVR, it will probably work ok, but be a tad underwhelming compared to it's competitors.
I reckon one of the major reasons, if not really the sole reason, for PS4 Neo, was to better run PSVR.
I want to be able to buy custom DS4 controllers for PS4 like Microsoft is doing for XB1.
Just did.
