Prior to Sony's E3 2015 press conference, the likes of The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Shenmue III were mere fan fiction β but the platform holder made them all a reality again. Sure, all three titles may come with an asterisk attached these days, but if you want your gaming briefings to be brimming with hype, then we doubt that last year's presentation will ever be topped.
While we all wait for E3 2016 to get underway β or an announcement or two to leak at least β we figured that it may be fun to revisit the Japanese giant's gob-stopping show. It's embedded above, in full, for your entertainment.

As I have stated before, if you really think a game first announced 7/8yrs ago gets 'reanounced' with virtually the same footage but still no clearer as to a release, a remaster of a 20yr old game and a kickstarter for a sequel to a SEGA franchise, 2 of which may well end up on 'other' platforms too, constitutes the 'greatest' E3 presser, then all I can say is the others must have been really BAD! LOL
Personally, as I don't tend to be bias towards any manufacturer, I think MS had the better 2015 E3. Most of the games shown appealed to me more and more importantly, more of those were released before 2016's E3. 3rd Party games revealed (Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider in particular) had more appeal too. Backwards Compatibility was also announced and even the Elite controller was revealed - probably the best controller I have ever used - regardless of your decision over layout - its build quality alone puts 'standard' controllers to shame.
As far as I am concerned, for Sony to have the 'greatest' E3, first they have to have more that appeals than other briefings (otherwise it seems flat and lacking), Games have to have a big chance of being playable before the next E3 - a few longer term games/hardware etc are OK but the majority have to be a reflection of the next year in gaming.
I think Sony could easily make 2016's a lot better but I do think it could almost be a repeat of 2015's but replace U4 with Horizon and maybe replace Horizon with the rumoured Suckerpunch game reveal...
I've loved all three of these. Great games!
Are we going to hear anything about FF7 this week? I'm not expecting it out anytime soon, but I'd really like to know about their episodic plans, how many parts, how long of a wait between each part? I'd like to see 2 parts 1 year apart, but it will probably be 3 parts two years apart, which means whenever it starts it would be 4 years before the last part, so we're talking PS5 for part 2, maybe PS6 for part 3 after the inevitable delay.
Certainly was the best conference in terms of hype loved it.
Certainly among the greatest and most exciting E3's of all time. They won't be able to top it, but if they bring back the Bandicoot, they could have a great follow-up.

@BAMozzy You claim MS had a better E3 but what did they really show that surprised anybody? Probably only BC and like I've said many times before "it's a feature that should have been there day one" otherwise you have the problem that Yogscast Kim from YouTube pointed out "when the biggest cheer of the conference was for playing games you already own then you know the platform has problems".
You might be quick to dismiss TLG, FFVII and Shenmue but those are games people genuinely care about, it's why social media got into a frenzy and the game's press had a field day during the conference because Sony gave and showed people what they wanted because for all there efforts MS won't ever get a reaction like that for another Halo, another Forza or another Gears.
@adf86 he'll never agree with you haha
@adf86 Its better than charging you to play games you already own and opens up GWG to 4 games for XB1 as well as pre-order bonuses like Fallout 3 with Fallout 4, Original Doom with new Doom etc. Maybe if they partner with BF1 for example, we could see BF2BC given free as a BC game. The fact all of these are playable between different generation of Xbox console is also a big deal.
MS had a lot of new games - Rare Replay, Sea of Thieves, Gears 4 revealed and Ultimate edition of GoW too, Halo Wars 2 revealed, Quantum Break, Scalebound, ReCore, Halo 5, Forza 6. It also showed some 3rd party games - Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fallout 4 (with Fallout 3 and Mods coming first to Xbox), Rainbow Six: Seige (with both Rainbow Six Vegas games free), Division (with beta access first to XB1), PvZ:GW2 and revealed Dark Souls 3 too. It also announced the WHOLE of EA access would be free to Xbox Live Gold members all week. They also showed off some Indies - like Cuphead, Below etc most are Xbox exclusives.
If BC should have been in from the start, why hasn't PS4 got it? Why are they charging you to play the games I already own?
I personally couldn't care less about the Last Guardian. It wasn't impressive when it first revealed for the PS3 and I really don't see how a game that was 'promised' over 7yrs ago generates enthusiasm when it gets reannounced. FF7 maybe 'popular' but its still a 20yr old game. Would people be 'enthusiastic' if Croc: Legend of the Gobbos or Parappa the Rappa were getting a 'remake'? Shenmue was associated with the Dreamcast much more and to have a 'kickstarter' plea to even start development as part of your presser isn't what I call great. If the biggest cheer is for remakes, kickstarter appeals and reannouncements of games that have been in the wilderness for so long and none with any chance of releasing in the next year, then you know that platform has problems!! Relying on nostalgia instead of showing something new and progressive to get excited by. I know Sony had Horizon (my most anticipated new IP) and Uncharted 4 (mu favourite choice for GotY) but those 3 announcements weren't that 'big' or special to me. FF7 wasn't that great to me 20yrs ago so couldn't care less about a remaster and Shenmue, despite its revolutionary approach, was still boring and full of QTE's - best thing was the Arcade games like Super Hang-on and Space Harrier. If MS announced a remake of Conkers Bad Fur Day, a kickstarter appeal to bring back Streets of Rage and a reannouncement of Phantom Dust would you be impressed or critical?
@BAMozzy sometimes you don't need to like something yourself to appreciate how good it is, though
@BAMozzy I would actually love a remake of Croc and PaRappa...
Also, I would back the hell out of a new Streets of Rage.
@Quintumply lol agree a SOR announcement in any form would do it for me
Sony was meant to bring the last guardian to PS3 it never did. Then it shows the game again last year then what a suprise its not released before the next E3. I like the footage we saw bit for me thats all it is until it gets a release date. As far as i am concerned all they have made so far is a trailer.
@BAMozzy Firstly Sony CAN'T do BC because the PS4 is completely different to the PS3 where it would be next impossible to do it properly. Where's MS could obviously could have done it a lot sooner (when it mattered) but decided to focus on stuff that no one wanted. You can argue about PS Now all you want but it's better then nothing and the PS2 classics have had more added to them where they aren't just straight ports so you can't blame Sony for wanting money because it is a business after all. You may not think Sony's conference was the best ever just because it didn't show games that appealed to you but like @kyleforrester said you can appreciate something's popularity even if you don't like it.
Oh come on, stop with that greatest conference of all time thing... .Announcing games that we are not gonna be available within the next 5 years is nothing special
@DualWielding It's their site, they can say what they want.
@kyleforrester87 I do agree but its hardly as 'exciting' to see a reveal of something you don't like. Again comparing it to MS's reveal, if you don't like a new Halo, Gears, Forza etc, then these are not going to appeal despite how influential and innovative they may have been.
@adf86 As I said above, the same applies to MS's press release. I can 'appreciate' a games legacy but that doesn't make these announcements 'exciting' or the 'best' ever if you have little/no interest. Sony's E3 2013 was, in my opinion, better. Not the way it constantly jabbed at MS's but the reveals themselves. A new console that looked sleek, powerful and with a redesigned controller with speaker, touchpad and lightbar. Games announced inc Killzone (which looked impressive - more so than any other FPS that year), Infamous (with all that lighting and power effects), Knack, MLB (all launched in the year), Driveclub, the Order (which looked incredible - probably the best looking game of E3), Indies etc. 3rd Party games included AC4, Watchdogs (both with bonus content), Diablo 3 (and exclusive items), Mad Max revealed, Destiny revealed. There was also FFxv and Kingdom Hearts 3 news/reveals too. Then the price at the end capped off a great E3. It also had PS3 news/games and Vita too and don't forget this was just before the Last of Us launched!! Games mentioned for PS3 inc Arkham Origins, GT6, GTAv (inc PS3 bundle), Beyond: Two Souls etc
I've compressed it down a bit, but E3 2013 for me was a lot better than 2015's - even though I have little/no interest in KH, FF, MLB etc. The games in general had a big WOW factor and the Hardware looked impressive - It was and had much more impact overall. Some of that can be attributed to MS's poor E3 but that's not too say that Sony's wasn't great in its own right.
If everyone else has a bad E3, an average showing by Sony can look a lot better. If everyone else has a great E3, that average one looks very bad. It's relative I know but like I said, I still think Sony's E3 2013 was greater.
@DualWielding TLG is coming this year or, worst case scenario, 2017.
FF7 Remake is episodic, so that'll definitely start coming out in the next year or two.
Only questionable one is Shenmue.
@BAMozzy
I agree with you buddy, don't trust people who worship at the altar of MGS 5 and SF 5,......sketchy those guys.
Still, they have much better taste than Sammy.
I'm here to try to cheer myself up after EA's conference destroyed all of my human emotion
