Persona 5 finally has a publisher in Europe – and its Dead Island's Deep Silver who's taking the reins. The company previously collaborated with Atlus to bring Catherine to the Old World, so it's a partnership that makes sense – though why owner SEGA can't just do it itself, we'll never know. It looks like the German-founded firm will publish all future Atlus titles in Europe to boot.
That Persona 5 is finally confirmed for release in these parts is good news, of course – but Deep Silver's refusing to attach a release date to the hotly anticipated PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 exclusive right now. "Stay tuned for more info," is what it's telling fans. Hopefully it can match the North American launch of 14th February – otherwise we may just cry like an anime fan on prom night.

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi i know right, it's not like SEGA couldn't do it themselves
Oooooo I do hope we get it the same as US...if not I'm going to have to just set up a US account and buy from there.
Good news. I think they'll announce the release date during Gamescom. Not holding my breath for it to release same day with NA. But let's hope.
Looks like I'm boycotting it then since I refuse to support Deep Silver after their douchey anime fan joke.
@DaveIsAnAceGamer Seriously?
@get2sammyb Yup, I don't support douchebags.
SQEnix are on my s**t list when they sold out to MS.
@FullbringIchigo @Bad-MuthaAdebisi
While SEGA could come across as lazy for not publishing the game, I believe they are protecting the game by not putting the name on the cover.
Lets no forget that SEGA, as company, is still working on recouping their reputation that once had.
@DaveIsAnAceGamer A (bad) joke about anime fans has convinced you to skip an (anime) game you were looking forward to? It seems a bit extreme, no?
@HungryWolf this is true but Deep Silver aint exactly on good terms with consumers lately just look at how badly the handled the Mighty #9 marketing and release
@get2sammyb I lost a lot of interest in Persona 5 when it was pushed to 2017 in America and pretty much cancelled in the UK.
Deep Silver publishing it does nothing at all for me and I'm not interested in it anymore.
@DaveIsAnAceGamer I'd also steer clear of Capcom because they sold out to Sony with SFV. Konami for the whole Kojima affair, Bioware for becoming EA'S little slaves, Platinum for giving Bayonetta to Nintendo and Sony for destroying studio Liverpool and Evolution. And of course Microsoft because it's just the worst, am I right? It's a complicated world if you live like that, man 😜 just enjoy your games
I just hope we don't have to wait long after February 14 here...might import if that is the case.
@Neolit Ideally I'd have on disk too but I've never imported a game before so worried about doing something wrong. Assumed it would be easier to buy from US online SCEA store...
@Feena Who says I don't boycott Capcom now, never liked Konami, hate Bioware games and haven't enjoyed PlatinumGames since.....ever as well.
MS were the only ones to buy away a series I used to adore.
Eitherway nope, I'm not getting this game.
@FullbringIchigo I was probably one of the few people that laugh at the video of Mighty nº 9 because of how ridiculous it was. But the failure of Mighty nº 9, as a game, is the responsibility of Concept, not Deep Silver.
Believe me, if the game reviewed on metacritic between 80 or 90, nobody would be talking about the ridiculous trailer.
@DaveIsAnAceGamer It's a shame that some people let the business of games get in their way of enjoying stuff.
@mrobinson91 Ah well, I'll live.
@HungryWolf i wasn't on about the trailer i actually found it quite funny (and i'm a anime fan) i was on about the fact it had virtually NO advertising at all and the delays (although the delays were probably more to do with Concept)
and Persona has quite a niche market so it needs a big marketing campaign to get the attention of the masses, which Deep Silver doesn't really do
For the people that boycott games because of publishers, in truth, are hurting the developers. In case of Deep Silver, by boycotting Persona 5, you'll be hurting Atlus, not Deep Silver.
@HungryWolf Fine by me, Atlus has treated us in the UK like s**t for years
@Neolit Thanks for the advice. Sounds like doing physical will be easier although I'll wait until I've heard someone has successfully done it with so I know it's not region locked.
Here's hoping we get the same release date as the US though!
Why omg why this crappy company FFS please release the CE edition.
@DaveIsAnAceGamer Just go at prom night and buy persona 5, problem solved
@Flaming_Kaiser I'm boycotting the game entirely myself now.
@wiiware My prom was 6 years ago but I did go and had a blast.
This game however I'll entirely skip, problem solved.
@Neolit I hope you are joking that sounds like a terrible business deciscion.
@FullbringIchigo I found the trailer funny also only the lies on Twitter made really mad. Not possible 2 games on a disc.
@DaveIsAnAceGamer You can over do it to I just hate Deepsilver for the lies and really bad Sacred games. Still gonna buy the game it only depends if we get a extra CE edition here of Persona.
@DaveIsAnAceGamer Its a bit sad you wont play P5 because of some distorted morals towards a business.
ITS A BUSINESS - IF ITS LEGAL AND THEY MAKE MONEY, THEY DO IT!
I share some of your concerns but whats the alternative? Not buying good games?
@themcnoisy Couldn't care less if they're good, I'll just buy other games instead.
@Feena What games does Konami make anyway there is not much left to stay clear off. Oh PES and Patchinco and mobile was it?
@DaveIsAnAceGamer I think you took their joke a bit to seriously. While I do like anime I didn't find anything particularly offensive about the joke. Seems a bit over the top to boycott what looks like a fantastic game.
@stevie85 Their joke and Atlus's attitude towards the UK are finally what pushed me over the edge about not buying this game.
@DaveIsAnAceGamer I will say in their defence Atlus are not a power house developer/publisher. So it would be very expensive to bring their games to the UK. As it's quite a niche genre. They usually aim for the US as it's a much bigger market. Hence why us in Ireland and the UK tend to miss out on these games.
Atlus and Deep Silver did the same for KOF14, so the companies obviously have decent relations.
SEGA/Atlus obviously don't want to deal with complexities of publishing / distribution in Europe.
Extremely excited for this game and so pleased we finally have a publisher over here.Don't care who these publishers are so long as we get amazing games
@stevie85 and why I feel no regrets in not supporting their games anymore.
The funniest thing about the anime on prom night gag is it's something I wished I'd have written myself.
We ain't getting this before the second half of 2017 do we?
I really hope the US release of P5 is region free...
@get2sammyb
Oh noes. He'll boycott you and PushSquare now!
@BlaBlaBla Why wouldn't it be?
@Splatburst Why would I?
PushSquare is great for PS info, nice job being butthurt though.
@DaveIsAnAceGamer Well, if you go to prom night and not crying then what's the problem? Just buy it from usa account or import it from amazon.
@wiiware Or I can not buy it in general?
My issue isn't solely with Deep Silver, it's with Atlus as well for their sh**y treatment to the UK fans.
Still no Vita version announced?
Loved P4 Golden on the Vita.
@Flaming_Kaiser sadly true!
I wasn't serious anyway 😜 I buy food from companies that sell powdered milk in parts of Africa that have no access to clear water and footwear from companies that exploit underage work. I 'd start from them if I really wanted to boycott a company not some publisher that made a bad anime joke ;P
@DaveIsAnAceGamer underutilized yes, 100% agree. But they probably dont have the resources or management skills or insight into the fanbase.
Start a petition in Japanese, surely that's better than cutting your nose off to spite your face. We want Atlus games! We want Atlus games!
@themcnoisy I'm content with not buying their games
Why does everybody care if this guy decides to buy a game from a certain company or not? Just saying
.....
@sub12 we don't I am just too old for this manichean idealism of his/hers + i love capitalism.
@sub12 It's baffling isn't it?
They're acting like the game isn't going to sell and that it needs every sale it gets, absolutely insane.
@Feena Could've fooled me.
@sub12 Especially a person who calls others "butthurt", thus reducing the discussion to youtube comment section level.
@naruball As if I was wrong, they seem reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally upset over it.
This sort of baffling thing is somewhat explained in a blog post in the SEGA blog:
http://blogs.sega.com/2016/07/06/in-regards-to-sega-titles-coming-to-europe/
The next question out of your mouth I’m sure is “but why? You have SEGA Europe, use them!” Yes, we do have a European branch, but they’re very much their own business, and as a business unit, SEGA Europe focuses on our Western IP titles – the titles developed by our Western studios such as Creative Assembly, Relic Entertainment, Sports Interactive and in partnership with studios such as PlaySport Games. With the majority of those titles being released on PC, we’ve seen an evolution of SEGA Europe into a more digitally-centric business over the last few years. For any packaged releases of SEGA Europe Western IPs they already partner with Deep Silver to bring those titles to market in Europe. It made sense to mirror that partnership with the SEGA of America-managed Japanese IP titles which currently have a heavier bias towards physical release. Sega Europe will still be publishing Yakuza 0.
@belmont
Basically, Atlus/SEGA do not want to worry about translating Japanese titles to multiple languages outside of English, having it QA'd, having it censored for the Germans........and then distributing what are usually niche titles to multiple nations.
So they have Deep Silver do it.
They should put the Japanese voices on. Can the PS3 release and use the money towards quality CONTENT. In this case Japanese voices might matter more than ever. I could play a KH and FF game in English but Persona. I'd rather not. It's not even a matter of if the English cast is good. Just give it to me. I'll forgive their BS if they do.
hahahaha "we may just cry like an anime fan on prom night" this is a might reference.
@get2sammyb It is odd that they would do this. Could it be that Europe is going to get censored more so then others? Kind of like South Park the stick of truth?
@Feena I really don't care about a anime joke (what joke BTW?)it's more the lies on Twitter. Not possible 2 games on a disc with the PS4 ....
Bizarre that Sega wouldn't do it, I guess they just don't like money? Or maybe Atlus just don't like Sega Europe? Who knows. Oh well, glad it's getting a UK release either way. Hopefully being a different publisher, we might get a better collector's edition than the naff US one.
@belmont Their explanation actually makes less sense to me.
Does Ghostlight still exist? They did a good work with the PSP ports, so I was kinda counting on them as well.
Or maybe they quit after prom night...
P4g was amazing. I cannot wait for this. Pity it not on the ps vita. Still ps4 version will do.
Sony should just purchase Atlus already. Persona is a very big franchise and most of them are exclusively to the PlayStation platforms too. Imho, Sony investing too many money into the West. They should search and look up the talents in Japan. After all, it's their home country.
