If you're a Japanese gamer who loves LittleBigPlanet, then you may want to start tapping down on your d-pad: Sony's shutting down the servers for all three of the main games, as well as LittleBigPlanet Karting, LittleBigPlanet Vita, and LittleBigPlanet Portable. Essentially, the series is over in the East, it would seem.
The good news is that the platform holder's not putting its foot down in the West just yet. All three numbered titles, as well as LittleBigPlanet Vita, will remain online in North America and Europe for the foreseeable future. LittleBigPlanet Portable and LittleBigPlanet Karting will meet a sticky end on 31st July and 31st August in the West, however.
Poor Sackboy.

Never cared for little big planet. to floaty, and it really bugs me that you cannot use the d-pad to move.
I find this kind of stuff infuriating and one more reason why I won't buy games that predominantly feature online components.
@AG_Awesome It's annoying, but it's not cost-effective to keep the servers running forever.
@get2sammyb why not just incorporate bot difficulty levels and let's us fake play online in your own system? Like Killzone used to do
I have only ever played LBPVita and I would hate the European servers to go down as it is quite fun having peeps joining games (which I find happens quite a bit, still).
This is the downside of MP becoming a big part of games, eventually servers get turned off and big gameplay components die.
this SEAMS weird. i mean... didnt LBP3 JUST come out a couple years ago? doesnt it have a massively huge rabid fan base making and playing levels still???? this is crazy
I liked playing Little Big Planet games on PS3. But ever since the PS4 came out I completely forgot about this series. LBP3 is on PS4 and it just slipped my mind. I should get it but I honestly don't want to now.
if the servers do get shut down would it effect buying dlc or community levels?
Can you still create your own custom levels offline though?
The ps vita version was the best in the series. I really enjoyed psp version on the ps vita. I suggest playing both.
I admit i have not played ps4 version
Good thing I don't like LBP. Got LBP 3 on the PS4 for my nephew. Waste of money, imo.
@get2sammyb It's also not fair to those who bought the game under the advertised pretense of sharing levels and playing other people's creations. Now the game is basically worthless
what pissed me off with the LBP series is that on every newly released game, it would have the same problems that the previous game had at launch, they would take almost a year to fix the horrible lag and whatever else. This happened to all 3 LBP games. I got the first two games, I passed on the 3rd installment. I won't miss the series. If they would have released the games without the tedious garbage, I would've enjoyed it a lot more.
Did this series not sell well?
@AG_Awesome But if you bought the game and played it before the servers shut down, you got they advertise.
@JaredJ
I don't know how the games sold outside the U.S. but LBP 1 and 2 were very popular here then the series seemed to lose steam after that. LBP Vita is one of my favorite games, though.
Never been a fan of the series... so meh.
Oh no... This is my favorite Playstation series...
@Tasuki I didn't though! Lol. It's in my backlog with over a hundred games in front of it. And they're not pulling the game from the market so what happens to new purchasers?
