If confirmation of Yakuza 6's release date in Japan has left you battling the green-eyed monster, then we come with good news: Yakuza 0, the series' 80s spin-off, will deploy on 24th January exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe. Just so we're clear, that's not a pager vibrating in your pocket – that's the feeling of unadulterated hype.
For those that don't know, this entry takes series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu all the way back to the beginning of his story, as the fresh-faced 20-something begins to cut his teeth in Japan's seedy gangster underworld. He'll be accompanied by franchise favourite Goro Majima – the one with the snake-skin jacket and loud mouth.
After a few years ignoring the Yakuza franchise – Sony was actually responsible for the release of Yakuza 5 – it seems that SEGA's fallen back in love with the series, as it's translating everything – including things like chapter titles, which have employed their native kanji since Yakuza 2. This project's got a bigger localisation budget than recent entries, then.
While this instalment very much sticks to the tried and tested Yakuza blueprint of open world exploration and Streets of Rage-esque brawling, it's got a ton of new time period-appropriate minigames, like chat-up lines and pocket car races. You can also expect to play a game or two of Yu Suzuki's classic OutRun in the local arcade.
Regular readers will know that we're massive fans of the Yakuza franchise, and late January is a great time for this one to release. We suspect that the entirety of Push Square Towers will be embracing their inner-gangster come February.

YES!
Man, early 2017 is looking pretty damn strong.
Probably the first game I buy in 2017, there will be a physical copy right? I have no problem with downloading it but Yakuza 5 took so much space on PS3, I'd rather have it on disc.
Has the series always been exlcusive to Playstation or is it just starting now? Happy days with yakuzza 5 being free this month as well
@shonenjump86 Yep, it's getting a retail release.
Awesome, thanks guys
Every Yakuza game is a delight to play, and I'm glad we're finally getting them on a steady schedule. It's going to be a long wait for this and Persona 5 though.
@shonenjump86 Yes, there'll be a physical edition in Europe and North America.
@dryrain Every entry in the series has been on PlayStation. The Yakuza 1 & 2 remaster did release on Wii U, but all of the others have been exclusive I believe.
@get2sammyb Was the Wii U remasters Japan and Europe only?
@Tasuki Just Japan I believe.
I want this game, but they should bring a collection so I can play the previous entries and understand a thing about it.
@get2sammyb Figured as much I want to get into this series but the second game is so expensive.
@Frank90 Exactly especially with how expensive the second one is.
Looking forward to it, but damn, thats almost 2 years after the japanese release....
@Tasuki @Frank90 One of the coolest things about the Yakuza series is that it has really good recap videos to catch you up on the story. You can start at Yakuza 3 or Yakuza 4 and after watching those you'll be totally up to speed with what's going on.
@get2sammyb Yeah I just might have to do that really want to play them but unless I want to spend $90+ dollars for Yakuza 2.....

@get2sammyb Ow thanks for the info, this is actually very good news as this game kind reminds me of Shenmue, and with this videos it'll be a certain buy to me.
That said, I really want to play the collection, it's kind a thing that I have, when I start a game I really like to try all possible titles that I can find.
But not for 90,00 as @Tasuki said. (which with taxes will cost 160,00 dollars, in Brazil, yay).
I'll take 7 please.
So this and RE 7 in January and currently Horizon is scheduled immediately afterwards. Looks like 2017 will start off with a bang.
As I said before Sega will completely own Q1 2017 with Yakuza 0 , Sonic Mania and Persona 5
Awesome, any chance we getting Kiwami as well?
Woop! Kinda surprised to see this 'relatively' early, brilliant news!
That's Pokemon S&M in November.
Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives 3: Final Stage in December.
And Yakuza 0 in January.
This is why I never finish Baldurs Gate II. 😅
