PlayStation 2 smash Hot Shots Tennis will serve up some racquet action on the PlayStation 4 at last this week, with Clap Hanz's classic arcade sporting title hitting a winner on Sony's new-gen system. The title's currently only confirmed for North America as part of the platform holder's weekly 'The Drop' post on the PlayStation Blog, but it's safe to assume that it'll be available in Europe around the same time, too.
While this is a good game, it shouldn't be confused with the even-better PlayStation Portable entry, subtitled Get a Grip. For those that didn't go head-to-head with that particular version, it included an expansive RPG-esque single player campaign, which is absent from the console release. Still, with a dearth of tennis titles on the PS4, we'll definitely be practicing our backhand returns this week. Love-fifteen.

I always liked Everybody's Tennis better
Clap Hanz is taking so long with their new game and leaving a huge gap in the PS4 catalog in the meanwhile. They should've made the tropical island they're making now and include all types of sports in the Hot Shots style; Golf, tennis, football, baseball, basketball etc etc. they could've locked every game behind a paywal, say $9,99 per game and have people use the island as a new version of Home where you meet people, play some games and chat a bit... They could even use VR for that.
@Boerewors Hopefully we'll get a release date for New Hot Shots Golf tomorrow.
@get2sammyb
I really hope so! I'm a sucker for these games, played a total of at least 150 hours on the PS3 and Vita version, but I do feel that just offering Golf is too little. They have an unique oppurtunity to have a monopoly on quality arcade sportsgames in a market where there's too much emphasis on true simulation. Golf, Tennis, Football, Golfcart races, Basketball, Cricket, Rugby, American football, Baseball etc etc are all sports that would be wonderful if we had some fun arcadey multiplayer games of and Clap Hanz has the know how and distinct visual style to make it a succes.
But unfortunately they seem to caught up with the social functions of the game that they forgot where their strength lies. It's wonderful to play games online, but the underlying mechanics should be number one, not the social part. They even botched up their cute style to have wannaMiis (wannabe Miis). They've been working on this for so long now that I expect a huge surprise regarding playable sports; if it's just some Golf and minigames, I'm gonna be really disapointed.
@Boerewors I see what you're saying and I'd love a compilation like that. Hot Shots Golf does sound cool in that, from what I understand, it takes place in a kind of connected online world, so when playing multiplayer you buggy race to the next hole, etc.
That sounds really fun to me. But yeah, they have taken a long time on it, and I agree, I'm not a fan of the character models.
Any rumours of TopSpin 5?
I am dying to get a decent kinda realistic tennis game for this current generation.
nevermind this, where's the new hot shots golf game?!. the rest of the year is looking pretty dry for me!
Maybe this is a way to see if the popularity level is still there. If enough of us download it, maybe a NEW hot shots Tennis game will arrive.
Whatever happened to Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer, or at least a new surfing type game (realistic), or any volleyball games. I was waiting for Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3 to come over here to the US, but it didn't...that was probably the last chance for a volleyball title.
Back to subject, it's been a long time since a new Hot Shots Golf game came out...looking forward to the next one (considering that they never added trophy support to Out Of Bounds for PS3). Also looking and hoping for a new Buzz game to come along!!!!
@leucocyte Yeah, I've been waiting for a release date too, ever since they first announced it.
Cmon sega Virtua tennis 5?
