Even though Dutch developer Guerrilla Games is hard at work on PlayStation 4 exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn, good guy director Herman Hulst has told Game Informer that the studio won't rule out the possibility of producing more Killzone games in the future. Hulst's comments come as no real surprise given the Killzone franchise's commercial success, but they're worth pointing out all the same.
"Killzone is very key and very core to Guerrilla," Hulst told the publication. "We have a lot of love for the franchise. In a way it's conclusive, but at the same time we'll leave everything open for the future. Who am I to say we'll never do anything? There's too much in it to ever make any kind of definite statements."
We reckon that once Horizon is out of the door, there's every chance that the developer will jump back to its bread and butter property for its next project, but would you like to see another entry in the Killzone franchise? Drive back the Helghast in the comments section below.

I liked kill zone as a launch title, but I would hands down prefer a game like horizon any day of the week.
I'd love to see some more Killzone games. 2 was absolutely brilliant, 3 and Mercenary are both great games and Shadowfall may have disappointed on the singleplayer front but its multiplayer at its peak was lots of fun.
@Gamer83 Yeah, I agree! Such amazing games, and I loooove KZ2. I think the big question would be, where could they take the series next? Instead of giving us "more of the same" with Shadowfall, they tried something different and failed (in single-player, at least). It's tough to say what a good next move would be, and I don't think trying to re-capture the past is a good idea, even if VR was thrown in there. Personally I'd like to see another new IP, preferably an FPS!
Yes please
Let GG Cambridge make a PS4 KZ!
Personally, I would just really enjoy getting a killzone 2 remaster.
I really enjoyed Killzone 2. Killzone 3 not so much mainly because of both the protagonist and the story. Also, the Capture Trooper was a little bit of a letdown, imo.
I just want a new multiplayer FPS game from them. Killzone is great, but I would be excited for a new IP, too in the FPS genre.
I like his attitude. Killzone has some of the best visuals on the PS4, and I enjoyed Shadow Fall alot. Keep 'em comming.
I really like Killzone but the latest entry, Shadow Fall was a let down. Co-op stripped away and a boring plot full of clichรฉs replacing the fun stories of before. If they bring it back to the quality and fun of previous games then yes, would happily give it another go.
To me, Guerrilla's best game was Mercenary on Vita - an astonishing game which was up there with Gravity Rush, Persona 4: Golden & Wipeout HD as the formats' best games.
That game had phenomenal multiplayer, a slick single player campaign and astonishing graphics that even now lock you onto believing the Vita fulfilled only 30% of its capabilities as a PS3 on the go.....
...I digress. The PS4 Killzone STILL hasn't learned from the genre leader, Halo: Combat Evolved - it needed to be fully cinematic with sophisticated FPS gameplay, but was simply 'good' rather than launch title 'great'.
Let's hope Horizon is more genre-defining than genre-following.
Everything about Killzone is incredible, Ive always had love for it. They absolutely should make another but for the love of God hire somebody to write the story for you! Its become such a cobbled mess!
The first Killzone was great, 2nd was good 3rd was ok and Shadowfall was a huge dissapointment. It no longer had the feel of a Zillzone game. If they went back and made it play and feel like the first two games then yes would love another game but if they keep the feel of Shadowfall then I would rather they just killed off the franchise.
For me Killzone is a good franchise - not great but one I would buy into. I do feel its gone downhill a bit. Killzone 2 had a great campaign, Killzone 3 was a better MP but the campaign was very short, Killzone SF couldn't match Killzone 2's campaign or Killzone 3's MP. Maybe the break will help them reinvigorate the series when they return.
In truth, I am much more excited by Horizon:ZD. I think Killzone has too much competition from games like CoD, BF and now even TF. It would be great to see the franchise return but offer something 'unique' - maybe even bring some of the things learned from Horizon into it to help it stand out from the competition. No doubt whatever they decide to do with the franchise, I will probably end up buying...
I like the Killzone games. As many have said, Killzone 2 was the bee's knees, and the multiplayer had me hooked for quite a while. Nothing since has bettered it, I feel, but I'm more than happy for Guerrilla Games to pick the series up again and give it another shot on PS4. All it really needs is a good story with relatable characters, in gameplay terms it's incredibly solid.
Horizon is looking brilliant though, and I think it will serve Guerrilla well to be trying new things before possibly returning to Killzone. It will allow them to rethink Killzone and introduce some new ideas.
I'm getting a bit carried away now, and am creating an entire story in my head that smashes together Killzone, Far Cry, and The Martian (that decent Matt Damon film). Maybe you're captured by the Helghast and held as a prisoner, then your squad leaves Helghan assuming you're as good as dead, leaving you alone and facing impossible odds. You escape, and have to try and make contact wiith Vekta by any means possible. On top of this, you need to not only fight against the Helghast troops, but also battle the harsh open world environment of Helghan, the atmosphere of which forced its inhabitants to wear those masks in the first place.
...I should be working.
yes, but only if they return to the basics of KZ2 and KZ3 and forget Shadowfall ever happened. take KZ2's multiplayer structure - large scale warzone, proximity chat, in-game squads, stats-tracking, server browser, etc. and layer in the smoother movement/shooting mechanics of KZ3 and you'd have gold. KZ:SF was mostly mediocre.. and i say that as a big fan of the franchise. also, there is a massive amount of lore and backstory to the killzone universe, but you'd never know it from playing the campaigns, i think GG could do better on that front.
Like everyone said, Just go back to what made Killzone 2 (and 3 to a lesser extent) so good and you'll strike gold with Killzone 5... Also, there's was something about the lore and background story regarding the universe Killzone drafted up, I forget.
Or they could remaster Killzone 2.
@Quintumply - that's actually a decent scenario ๐
But I'm not sure why Guerrila adopted the whole slow movement, low-impact (from guns to enemies) thing that they decided was their 'thing'. I mean, Halo came out almost 15 years ago and I'll never, ever forget the sensation of a full-scale battle with intelligent enemies, to taking down an enemy ship THEN PILOTING SAID SHIP AND ITS WEAPONS UP HIGH INTO NO MANS SKY ๐
Killzone on PS4 I felt then betrayed that to showcase PS4's architecture, then ironically lost its identity.
If Guerrilla wants to make a statement, they need to tackle Bungie head-on and accept Destiny is now industry standard re gunplay (visceral, with proper impact from guns and superb movement) and then come up with their own features.
As a Sony PlayStation day-one buyer from 1-4, we NEEDED Killzone on PS2 as a rival to Halo, then we WANTED Killzone 3 to up the ante, but I'm not sure they can compete with the cross-system titles which now render that requirement moot.
Still love Killzone 2 for its sure-footed rebellion of established staples and better gunplay, but Mercenary was and still is a defining moment....on Vita ๐
Now let's see that Bioshock Collection review, please ๐
I like Killzone games. Killzone 2 was the best except being a midget. The enemy AI is some of the best I've seen, and it's really fun to play on the hardest difficulty.
KZ3 was the best to me, savage gameplay, full co-op mode and great online matches with rocketpacks and Mechs. What happened to KZ:SF it was guff
I actually really like Killzone though I know it gets a fair share of flack. I've completed 3, Shadow Fall and Mercenary and enjoyed them all so would love a new one!
I actually liked Shadowfall. Sure it wasn't great but atleast it offered enough gameplay than...you know... and atleast the multiplayer was fun. Definitely enjoyed it more than KZ3 (KZ2 is still the best though).
What Guerrilla Games should atleast is to release a Remastered Trilogy of Killzone for the Ps4, with the first game "remade" (I mean, come on, the shooting was wonky, there isn't a lot of checkpoints, and the voiceacting is hilariously average). What I also would like to see for Guerrilla Games is that, if they decide to make a new Killzone game, then let it return to its old roots. Maybe make the multiplayer 2x bigger than KZ2's while taking some of the elements from Halo, Battlefield, and/or Resistance. Ans as for the campaign, not only I want local Coop but I want the campaign to be both dark and slightly emotional, like Uncharted 4's story (but no romance).
That, and I also want to see another Killzone game for the Vita. Maybe a spin off that lets you play one of the characters from the Killzone universe like Echo or maybe a Command and Conquer-like Killzone game.
Another killzone would be awesome! But I hope to see the the Helghast totally expand in the universe with a new alien ally. Therefore reducing the so called vektar good guys to a shell of their former selves. A bit boring when good guys win so easily. Make it a struggle for both sides to reveal the brutality and true sacrifice of heroes dying. Nothing beats a good weep or the loss of a friend/squad in slow mo in the middle of an action game๐ญ
I'd be down for it, I never bought any of them for more than $20 but I always felt like I got my monies worth.
