Resident Evil 7's ridiculously popular demo has been expanded, and made available to everyone on the PlayStation 4. Previously you needed a PlayStation Plus account to download the sampler, but now anyone will be able to grab it from the PlayStation Store for free. And, as alluded, new content has been added overnight, sending Reddit and various other forums into a frenzy. Could there finally be a use for that dummy finger?
If you haven't got time to investigate the taster right now, then Capcom's released a brand new trailer which you can watch above. This mostly revolves around the Baker family, and a feast involving some less than appetising dishes. The title's due out on 24th January, so it's not far away at this point. But are you starting to get hyped for the horror that awaits, or are scared that this is a change of direction too far? Scream in the comments section below.

Nice one! For me, this isn't really Resident Evil... it has to be third person. But, lets be real, RE6 wasn't Resident Evil either, and if they kept going in that direction I wouldn't have bothered with RE7. I can get on board with this one, though, even if they are blatantly trying to shoehorn an existing franchise into a VR experience to help sell the concept. It should have been a new IP really, but they want some big names to shout about on the new hardware. Fair enough.
Anyway, looks good
@kyleforrester87 is it really shoehorning it though? I love me some classic RE, but the newly adopted first person perspective fits VR perfectly, and takes "brown trousers time" to an entirely new level. I get that it could probably have been marketed as a new IP, but I remember similar arguments when 4 was revealed which was a dramatic change as well. You never know, when we play it it could feel very like it's predecessors in terms of aesthetic. Either that or it'll be Codemned 3 and you can tell me to bugger off
@AhabSpampurse Shoehorning is obviously too strong a word in hindsight, as I think it'll be great on VR, but it does feel like they want to use existing established franchises to lend PSVR some credibility. New IP is great and all but I think it is a move to show the faith they have in VR. It's not really an issue but I have to say in an ideal world I'd personally prefer a traditional 3rd person RE (going back to its roots) and a separate new first person horror franchise for VR.
I couldn't find the demo on the American store. If anyone can help, please do
I don't like this new style, it looks like Outlast with a Texas Chainsaw family in it...very original!
@kyleforrester87 yeah, agreed on all points. I'll give it a shake and see how it goes. The only thing I've been vaguely concerned about was an eyes-on impression a few months ago, and apparently the game was totally naseua inducing. I'm sure they'll iron that out, but it'd suck for something as trivial as that to ruin the VR experience.
Still haven't tried it, I need to get on that.
@AhabSpampurse yeah, perhaps this is down to the individual though. If I'm honest, I'm fine with horror games, but I don't know if I could hack this in VR haha. I'll play it one way or another though because..resident evil. I'm still kind of worried Capcom have a few 'suprises' for us though.. i.e for the game to be released in chapters or something.
I wonder if they finally added the whole Resident Evil part or if it's still Outlast with green herbs.
@get2sammyb Snuck in another Smiths reference there
Hm just watched that brand new trailer and well eh...meh. Character models are awful, it's dark and probably going to be very disorienting in VR. So far it's not looking very promising. But still I'm kinda intrigued. Have to try out that demo soon. And for anyone who wants that old school RE feel you might want to give Revelations 2 a try, it worked for me, I had a blast playing it trough.
@sajoey I couldn't find it either. I wonder if its still the same file since I still have that previous demo on my HD.
