Knack may not be a bad game, but it's certainly become a laughing stock over the years. That's not stopping Sony from pouring even more effort into the outing, however, as Mark Cerny has quietly announced that the Japan Studio developed platformer will be upgraded to take advantage of the manufacturer's new PlayStation 4 Pro hardware.
The title was shown-off on a standard HDTV during a presentation attended by Engadget. It was used as an example of how visual performance can and will be improved on 1080p screens, with the title employing supersampling to resolve a much cleaner image.
"So if we look at the scene, again, it's very clean, smooth," he said of the PS4 Pro version, before sighing over the standard PS4 edition. "Look at all the moiré, or all of the shimmery noise in the distance. And this is what we see when we play games on an HDTV and we've learned to ignore it." Better image quality all around, then – always a win.
But if the developer's putting effort into upgrading Knack, where does this leave Bloodborne? Currently there's no word on a patch for one of the PS4's best games, but we've got our fingers crossed that it will be updated to take advantage of the new console. It has to be, right?

This doesn't surprise me. Wasn't Knack, Cernys project anyway?
Bloodborne really needs HDR more than anything - reflections in particular get blown out and lose definition and the extra colours would help.
It was the first game I played when I first got my PS4 and new 1080p TV and I thought it looked super crisp then. I enjoyed the game.
I'm not afraid to admit Knack was a good game that needs a sequel to fully take advantage of it's potential. Maybe this is a sign that Sony hasn't given up on the series, if Respawn can turn Titanfall around (Look at the scores so far) then certainly a power house like Sony can.
Are they going to update it so it takes advantage of the standard PS4 too?
@Pink_Floyd Apparently there's a sequel in development.
@get2sammyb OK, so as usual Sony doesn't want to talk details as to what a "Pro" update means, but how about "facts". What does a "Pro" update of Knack mean to retail?
I think it has been established that they can't charge extra for it. Will they make new boxes like the old red border GH boxes and call them "Pro mode"? Will these just be updates to an old game? Will anybody bother to replay Knack just b/c the background moire went away?
OK, the reason I'm asking is, I've been waiting for Knack to hit PS+, but if they are going to put it in a new box and sell it as a "Pro" game, they aren't likely to give it away. If it's just a free update they could put it on PS+ to show off the power of Pro, but then all the people who already own this on PS4 will be updating for no reason, if I understand correctly that these updates sort of happen in the background on PS4. Perhaps I got that part wrong?
So what do "Pro patches" mean for retail? And will everybody w/ an old PS4 or Slim be forced to download all of these Pro patches even though they don't need them? Could be a lot of HDD space taken up by useless patches.
It's all starting to look like a big cluster...
@get2sammyb Wow I'm shocked! Any idea on what stage of development they are in? I'm also surprised that we haven't seen or heard anything new with the Crash remaster.
@rjejr You're overthinking as always.
@rjejr I would say they are going to do a Greatest Hits and something on the front of the box that says "PS Pro Supported" or something along those lines. At this rate Sony is like Nintendo, leaving details out until the vary end right before release.
The game was had brilliant graphics to begin with, nice to see people still care about Knack.
Game was pretty fun to play with my kids, we even grinded out to get the Platinum! Glad to hear it's getting a sequel.
This will be a December plus game for all those getting a pro to feel included. It's been requested so many times in the comments section here and elsewhere. The December ones are often better to entice new gamers In from Christmas.
It's the middle of the night and you've just bought a PS4 Pro that very same day, you hear a window smash in another room. Scared, you slowly move towards the sound. That’s when you see him – covered in glass bits and blood.
Mark Cerny.
"Why haven't you played Knack on your PS Pro yet?!" he howls, his eyes mad with rage.
Bloodborne at 60fps, please.
Quote @get2sammyb - @rjejr You're overthinking as always.
@get2sammyb Not strictly.. If you look at PSVR Worlds. The latest game patch notes: It currently has PS4 Pro support listed as the reason for the patch.
So PS4 Pro stuff is already being patched in to standard version PS4 games. While maybe not taking up much space.. is atleast taking up some and who knows.. maybe some games will require large patches which it seems, will be installed regardless of which system is in use.
@Cassetticons It's the middle of the night and you've just bought a PS4 Pro that very same day, you hear a window smash in another room. Scared, you slowly move towards the sound. That’s when you see him – covered in glass bits and blood.
Hideo Kojima
His usually clean complexion, confident swagger and youthful good looks replaced by an old Japanese alcoholic on his last legs "Help me, I've ran away. Cerny had me holed up working on knack 2!"
@Mega-Gazz I think it need more stable framerate, super stable 30 fps or unlocked 45 - 60 fps ish like rise of the tomb raider sound good.
@rjejr Pro update mean more stable frame rate, 2k or 4k, and hdr. In retail sony can release new disc cover for the game that say "ps4 pro supported", if you already bought the game, there will be ps4 pro patch. I don't think that's confusing.
@themcnoisy
@solocapers I really don't think it's a big deal.
@rjejr Most current gen games require you to download all of the DLC even if you don't own it, as they'll roll it up into patches. I guess all i can about it is save up for a bigger hard drive, or limit your installs, because pro patches will most likely be a required download, and depending on the complexity of said patch, could range anywhere from a few MBs to a few GBs.
@Pink_Floyd Titanfall 1 didn't do that bad it got a 86 on metacritic and currently Titanfall 2 has a 89 which will usually drop once it gets more reviews so it might end up around 86 again.
@get2sammyb Na, me either to be honest.. even if it does take up a gig or so more per game im not one of the bed wetters who needs their whole game collection installed or they melt down. Just thought id raise it as a valid point.
@ApostateMage Agreed!The Knack bundle was the only one available when I bought mine and I loved every minute of this game.Looked great and played well.
Knack really can't get a break, huh? It seems like it'd be a fun game if you can get it for like £5, though I can understand why people who got it at full price wouldn't think much of it.
Day one Pro for me then. Glad Sony is treating the true PS4 cult classic with the reverence it deserves!
@Napples Thank you, nice to know somebody around here can give an answer to a question w/o all the attitude. Glares in @get2sammyb direction.
I noticed the other day on my Wii U Lego Dimensions downloaded a fairly decent size patch, probably for all of the new content, 75% of which I'll never get. My Wii U only has 32GB so a 2GB patch is noticeable when you previously only had 4GB free.
@wiiware "Pro update mean more stable frame rate, 2k or 4k, and hdr" "I don't think that's confusing."
Maybe you don't think it's confusing b/c you are confused? Pro update does not mean "HDR" as ALL PS4 are getting updated to HDR.

Cerny isn't biased at all....
@rjejr The pro will have more resolutions + more stable framerate, it can't get any simpler than that.
@rjejr Also keep in mind that any game you buy on disc will still rip all of the content onto the PS4's hard drive, the disc basically acts as a security check. So yeah, if you plan on getting more than 10 games on disc, 1TB or higher is highly recommended if you want them all installed at once.
THIS WAS WHAT I NEEDED TO BUY A PRO! DAY ONE.
Of course! Knack's issue all this time has been the resolution. You're a genius Cerny!
The local co-op in Knack is a blast. I finished the game with my son 3x to get all the Knack forms.
Picked Knack up from PSN a few months back for just over £4. Still haven't played it. Doubt I'll give a damn about the updating it for pro usage.
@rjejr The Pro updates are not possible to download on a non Pro console.
What about LBP? Certainly that game would benefit from Pro support.
No offence to the game but WHY!?!? I bought it and it was o.k'ish(SONY really should of tried to get Crash back and did that instead as a 1st PS4 game)
@PorllM "The Pro updates are not possible to download on a non Pro console."
According to this article and the comments in it, not only are the Pro updates possible to download, but they are automatically downloaded to all PS4.

Do you have a link to some official information that says Pro updates won't be downloaded to non-Pro PS4 or are you just guessing?
