Battlefield 1's debut is the big talking point of the latest Japanese sales charts, with EA's World War shooter claiming the top spot of the software list. The historical foray sold through a relatively impressive 113,081 copies on PlayStation 4. Aside from NBA 2K17 entering in sixth, though, it's been another quiet week in the East when it comes to Sony platforms.
Meanwhile, on the hardware side of things, the PS4 once again retained its place at the top of the charts, although sales did dip slightly, settling at 27,069 units.

Strong opening from Battlefield 1.
@get2sammyb Is the Pro out in Japan in a couple of weeks like the West or do they have to wait until February again? Do you want me to come back later and remind you to add in the PSVR #?
Somebody should tell the Japanese Vita died like 2 years ago.
X1S nearly caught PS3. I wonder if MS will make a big deal announcement about it when they do.
I think this holiday is the most disinterested I've been in video games my whole life. Walking in Target I'm looking around not really impressed at all. I'm really looking forward to Yooka-Laylee and Horizon Zero Dawn, but gotta wait on those. Squenix pulled the rug out from under me w/ that 2 month delay, season pass, and additional DLC, it's mostly their fault. And I stopped caring about TLG years ago. Where's Dreams?
Wow that's strange. Nice to see the Japanese are opening up to new genres.
Where's PSVR this week? Was there none to sell or has it fallen into the abyss?
@rjejr has a point, as usual good sir, in that this holiday is pretty damn dull. Sun and Moon are....okay? I cant really say but the FPS isn't good on base 3DS. Wii U is dead, so there goes my primary console. And the PS4 is quite frankly, in my honest opinion, looking over what I've done since I bought it, which is basically Just Cause 3, Ratchet and Clank and DOOM, (one of which doesn't run well, one of which seemed reluctant to be made and probably wont see another entry for a while, and is the last of the 3 PS2 classics that pulled me into Sony kicking around, and DOOM was fun outside of requiring colour blind mode for me), is the single most boring gaming device I have ever owned. Ever. Worse than the PSP. There is so little there for me and what is there isn't that great, or has issues, or could do with being more frequent. More games like Ratchet? Yes please. Even the interface, aesthetic, functionality, it just looks and feels....dull. Boring.
Maybe it's succumbed to my trap of being overhyped, like Ocarina, SM64, God of War, MGR:R, and so on, that I just find it....boring. Not as good as everyone says. And that's an instant ban on this site.
@get2sammyb well done on selling me the idea of the box back last summer, but god damn....I barely use it.
@BLP_Software Hey BLPs, like the new name and avatar.
I'd just like to say I'm not quite down on PS4 as you are, just this years holiday output. I'm looking forward to U4, but that's out already, RotTR, but that's a 1 year old port, R&C, also old. And I really should be looking forward to FFXV, I pre-ordered the thing way back in Feb, and I haven't canceled it yet, but a season pass for a single player game? One they've had 10 years to get it all in the game. And then more DLC the season pass doesn't include? And we don't know what any of it even is? And the Slim bundle is $450 so that's out. So I'll look forward to FFXV Complete next holiday, when they finally complete it. I may get Witcher 3 but that's old too.
Guess that's why I waited so long on my PS4 purchase, so I'd have a lot of games to get at a decent price - R&C is $20 most places, U4 in the box - but not much new. My kid wants DBXV2 but that just looks like 1 to me, so he'll wait. My other kid wants a NES Mini. Slow holiday. Maybe other games just got out of the way for BF and CoD and TF and Destiny? I was really excited for TLG in 2009, but not much since. So it's probably my fault more than the PS4's fault, I have odd tastes, but the best thing about this holiday will probably the US election season finally being over, feels like 18 months long now, ugh.
@rjejr Thank god the election will be over.
I mean..I love Ratchet, Day One pre-order yummy goodness one sitting that stuff. I need more of that on the box. You don't need to sell me the box, just games like that and the box shall come. A bundle would've been nice.
Uncharted 4 I don't care for, just like a lot of over-shoulder Naughty Dog style games they did once the PS3 hit. FFXV? Yeah no, 10 years later and I don't see it. Especially with DLC content being a thing and the talks with the JC3 studio to use their engine for airships. Feature creep is a problem with that one.
The PS4 had one exclusive. ONE, in the 3 years its been out that made me want it. And that came out around 2.5 years in.
And thanks for the comments on the name and avatar, its a not so subtle hint at whats coming
@rjejr despite the Witcher being old, it's still probably my favorite game of this generation. Definitely worth a look - I think it will hold up for quite some time.
@ztpayne7 I want to play the Witcher 3 and am looking forward to it, but I wouldn't consider it a new game for this holiday season even though "Complete" just released, I'm really just lamenting this year's holiday line-up. And I'll admit it's mostly b/c Sqeeunix got greedy w/ FFXV and Nintendo let Wii U die while moving games to Switch which won't be out until March. Just Zelda on Wii U would've brightened my outlook. Or Yooka-Laylee, or H:ZD. It's the holiday of delays and FPS.
That's awesome sales for a western game. Has the true Japanese gamer finally realised that mobile gaming isn't truly gaming!!
@rjejr Not interested in the last guardian? Probably not or you would have mentioned ut...I think Square got broke more than greedy, they really put a lot of money in XV's development but I get what you mean. Will still buy it, just not buying season pass...edit: I saw you actually mentioned it hahah my fault.
@Feena "the last guardian"
I was. Back when it was shown at E3 2009 on the PS3. I had it on my list of games to buy in earlier 2010. I was a little excited when it came back to life on PS4 a couple of years ago but too much time has passed.
I was also really excited about the Van Halen edition of GH back at E3 2009, but I skipped GH Live.

@rjejr
I don't think this fall has been that bad. At least not in regards to Xbox One. ReCore, Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4 and Battlefield 1 all out. Titanfall 2 soon followed by Watch Dogs 2 and Dead Rising 4 at the end of the year. Granted if I only had a Wii U or PS4, it'd be pretty meh.
Decided to swallow my pride and just buy Rise of The Tomb Raider since I know it's not going to do well on any platform.
It's alright, the story is pretty damn crap and the setting is nowhere near as good as the original games.
Fun sure but it's no system seller by any means.
@Gamer83 "Granted if I only had a Wii U or PS4, it'd be pretty meh."
Anybody who only has a Wii U this holiday loses all right to call themselves a gamer. Even if you are waiting for Switch, you won't be doing any gaming this holiday.
I did decide that PS4 is better than I thought, in fact it's good - FFXV, TLG, RotTR, TF2, W_D2 - I just don't care all that much about those games right now. I will likely play RotTR, FFXV and even TLG some day, but my excitement for them has diminished.
Between Nintendo delaying Zelda for another year, and leaving Wii U with nothing in it's place, not even a Super Mario Sunshine HD remaster; and Squenix squeezing 1 last delay out of FFXV, then adding on a $25 season pass to add insult to injury, I'm just not in the gaming holiday spirit that I know I should be in. W/ Yooka-Laylee and H:ZD due out in the winter I guess I'm just looking past this Christmas, meanwhile also looking back at old games - R&C and Uncharted 4 will make for a good holiday for me. But the current new holiday games that stores will be advertising just aren't my cup of tea (since were on a Brit site).
First world problems I guess.
