PlayStation VR may be all about the games, but the reality is that virtual reality has a greater role to play than that. Fortunately, platform holder Sony seems to recognise this, and it'll be launching a variety of "experiences" and "video services" alongside the headset from launch through into 2017 and beyond.
Among these is a David Attenborough documentary which will take you on an oceanic journey some 540 million years ago, a VR cinema pooling content from the likes of Disney and Nat Geo, and some short stories such as Allumette, which promises a tale of "love and sacrifice". You can find the full list of experiences on the PlayStation Blog.
It's good that Sony's not ignoring the other side of the virtual reality experience, because the technology has just as much to offer to sectors such as education as it does to entertainment. We can't wait to take all of these for a spin.

There really is so much more to this vr than I thought..
I'm still not paying out that much for one until I get to try it though..especially after just paying for a new tv..hmmm,I wonder if I can convince my nephews into paying out for one..
The none game experiences are nearly as exciting as the games. I think in the future the games will end up being a small part of VR. With experiences making up a lot more of the titles. There is a series currently on syfy that I think includes VR.
What i want to know are those "experinces" going to be treated like movies ? Like region locked and such or not... hopefully it will be treated like games so i can buy them and not get locked out like it was with movies
Blimey if we have a YouTube VR for PSVR where users can upload their VR videos/photos etc. ... this is a sign of visual evolution. Could be as disruptive as digital photo albums taking over from paper albums 😄 really looking forward to nature programs, military history, space etc in VR. It means watching a program/movie again but scanning the areas you missed the first time around!
I'm more excited about this than games, imagine in the future if we, for example, rather than just watching motogp, we can experience rossi point of view, or going to the e3/psx live in the front view, or live concert, etc.
I just hope ps vr successfull enough so sony can make the second or third generation with better screen and less cable.
Good. Glad to see they're actually doing something with it besides the Worlds tech demo.
I wonder though, do they plan to support with 1st party games or, just leave it's fate in the hands of others...
Will the YouTube app get an update to support 360 degree videos?
Some great sounding stuff there. But why's it always bloody U2 that companies use to promote their wears? It's amazing how quickly they put me off a product. They're like mainline shot of disinterest.
So far, even the games seem more like experiences anyway. Makes sense, though I'm hoping they're more than 10-20 minutes for this media...and also not vomit-inducing.
Porn?
@BodyW-outOrgans or Teletubbies in your face! How sesame street 360!
I would love to have more relaxing Apps. On my GearVR I have an App its called Tiny Island and what you do, is just laying down on atiny island, listening to the waves and the birds and watching the sun set and rise again. (You can actually even set the speed for earths rotation). Something like this on a higher end system must be really soothing.....
