It's a truth universally acknowledged that Sony doesn't like the holidays – after all, when's the last time it released a major game in October or November? Exactly. And now it looks like its hardware is set to share the same fate; while the PlayStation 4 Pro is still very much on track for 10th November, the manufacturer's Platinum Headset has been pushed into January.
This is the next evolution of the platform holder's uber-popular Gold Headset, promising simulated 7.1 sound and beastly 3D audio for PlayStation VR. We haven't tried these yet, but they were on display at EGX 2016 earlier in the year, and they look absolutely stunning in person. They should, too – they're retailing for a not-so cheap £129.99/$159.99!

Darn that sucks I was really hoping to hear a review, because my Gold's are damaged and though I have just but the 800x turtle beaches I am still thinking about these because the goals are way more comfortable and these look like they're bound to be more comfortable as well it sucks that they don't have Bluetooth because if they did I would definitely trade! The features on the 800 are too good but if they still sound as good as the 800s or even on better I may get them down the road for their comfort!
I know they added 7.1 and 3D audio, but is that enough to justify such a high price tag? Is there more than that? I got my gold headset for $50 new and i'm pretty happy with them, although the battery life is a tad on the low side.
Had no idea they were making a new headset, but too expensive plus I don't want the PSVR but do want something better than the Gold headset.
Looks like its official, most of the gifts this year will be light boxes with pieces of paper saying "This item is Pre-Orderd at ___ with an estimated release of 2017" Ha ha ha ha.
The leather on the ear cups on my Gold Wireless headset are already peeling off after not using for 6 months earlier this year. It's still useable but was thinking of getting a new one or maybe this new model but $160 is too expensive.:/
I'm still using the original Playstation Wireless Stereo Headset... is that one still compatible with PS4 and the PS4 pro?
For £90 you can get an Astro A40 with Mixamp Pro and will probably sound better than this new headset. It is wired but I think they sound better and are more reliable as they will never lose sound unlike wireless.
@Pink_Floyd With the games i don't care can't keep up with the releases.
@DualWielding I think so Yes well with the PS4 in sure don't know about the Pro.
@Neolit You can remove and replace them with new ones? I prefer leather over cushion or fabric when it comes to headsets but the problem with leather/faux leather goods is that they'll crack or peel off if you leave them and don't use them after awhile.
I am sorry for those who were waiting for this headset, but it's hilarious! #delaystation jokes aside, I am in the market for a headset and this seems cool, I'll wait for it.
I didn't know they were making a headset, why have they made a headset and not an elite controler? Surley there's more demand and money to be made there, not to mention how happy it would make people. I would happily pay £100+ for an official elite controler but the next accessory i'll be buying is a 3rd party elite controller so I don't think Sony will see any of that cash. Another strange Sony idea almost as dumb as releasing the Slim when they did.
How Much????
Please, stop, I can't breathe, my sides..
I'll stick with my Bose earbuds.
I can't stand big earmuff headphones. I like the super lightweight Bose that are engineered to just rest in the bowl of your ear without needing to shove in your ear canal or muffle your ears entirely.
@DLB3 PS+ games for December are now targeted for Feb 2017
That's not a bad price compared to garbage like beats and I'll bet these will have a far nicer sound. I am perplexed as to why folks think those things actually sound good. Bloody marketing. Grrrrrrr.
Why are people moaning about the price they are not expensive you get what you pay for guys. That is a normal price for an average sounding set.
My current headphones, the limited white gold version, suffered the same fate as many and cracked on each side of the headband. I'm rocking some sexy duct tape on them at the moment! Is there any word on the durability of these? I'm willing to shell out the cash if they'll actually hold up.
