As is widely known already, 2K Games didn't send out advance review code for Mafia III, so we're only just digging into the New Bordeaux-based drama. But should you buy it? Well, we've streamed over an hour of gameplay footage so that you can get a feel for the crime caper – and you can watch the archived footage above.

I picked up a copy yesterday but I didn't have time to get any play time in.. supposedly we're getting out of the warehouse a little early today, so maybe I'll be able to finally dig into it a little bit.
I was about to but then I saw the "racist disclaimer" from Hangar 13 and it put me right off.
@mantralux Why did it put you off exactly?
@Lurker It's a trigger warning.
In a video game.
@mantralux get over yourself
@mantralux such a sensitive world we live in eh? Dont forget your padding and ear plugs when you go outside boys and girls!
@Kage_88 Yeah and? There's a reason they did it. I've seen an article before release entitled something like "Is Mafia 3 racist?" or something like that (found it here http://www.morningledger.com/mafia-3-game-racist/13109067/). I can imagine a bunch of clueless people outraged at some things happening in the game. That's the world we live in unfortunately.
@Lurker - Those clueless people do not want to hear about GTA then lol
Some real charmers here, wonder how they'd treat someone with post traumatic stress disorder. Empathy is overated, eh?
Yep. Great game. and the racism in the game is just a reflection on the way the Southern United States was back then. It was very bad but that's just the way the world was and unfortunately that's still around just not nearly as bad.
@LieutenantFatman why would anyone severely traumatized by racism go to comment on a game that triggers them lol don't be daft
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Not the point I was attempting to convey, but it's a fair question. I don't think I'm the best person to answer it though. There are plenty of articles online regarding how people might try to deal with trauma though if you are genuinely interested in knowing.
People are funny so we should just act like racism does not excist. Look they make a game which is in the past those things happend so why leave them out. Lets just tear out all the bad pages in a historybook as well because we don't like them......
Interesting that most seem to think I meant I was triggered, when in fact it is the opposite. The reason that disclaimer puts me off is because Hangar 13 proves before the game even starts that they are tainted by the current PC climate, and therefore I can't trust that they have made great decisions in the game. Since I am not sure if this game is a game of love or a game of propaganda, it has turned me right off and I won't be playing it. I don't need a disclaimer telling me racism is bad, I already know it is. But since Hangar 13 assumes I'm stupid enough to not know that, I am not interested in their game.
@mantralux They don't assume you're stupid enough to not know that, it's not personal. What they're saying is that they didn't shy away from the problems of the era (and problems of today). Since games rarely tackle serious issues it wouldn't be to far fetched to see a totally watered down representation of American south in 1968. They decided to represent it realistically while telling us "We find the racist beliefs, language, and behaviours of some characters in the game abhorrent". Should such comment be necessary? Probably not. Is it necessary? Well, judging from some reactions it's damn well safer for them to include it.
Story Is great and pulls no punches, Game play, first 3 hours are pretty good. But then it becomes like assassins creed. Find gang leader take over territory repeat over and over basically a grind fest. Currently about 17 hours in. But the story keeps me playing it and the music is awesome.
A racism disclaimer would put me off too. All that would suggest to me is that any controversial content was put in purely for shock value. An 18 cert on the cover is enough.
"Should You Buy Mafia III for Your PS4?"
Clearly not.
It looks like a dozen other Western games I've played, to be honest. Third person open world game, a guy creeping around murdering people with QTEs and abusing a cover shooting system, dull characters who only really communicate their personalities through cutscenes where they tell you to go and shoot people, licensed music but almost nothing in the way of a memorable OST of its own, a "realistic" visual style, etc. etc.
I'm out of games to play and I need something new, but this doesn't look like what I need to fill the void.
Alright well controversial stuff aside. I'm not surprised it starts to feel like an assassins creed game. Tell me do we have to climb fifteen water towers in New Bordeaux (or however it is spelled) to unlock more of the map. What I really want to know is the world inside and outside of town fun enough to drive around for hours with nothing to do?
