Watch Dogs 2 is out on PlayStation 4, and according to our very own Matt Adcock, it's supposed to be pretty darn good. The sandbox sequel is a lot more colourful than its rather dreary predecessor, with Ubisoft trying extra hard to pump some character into proceedings. But now that we've had our say - review score pending - we want to know what you think.

Really enjoying it so far. Way, WAY better than the first. Loving the Jumper and Drone. Quite a bit tougher than the first too... presents more of a challenge. Enemies are more observant and spot you quicker if you're not careful.
Better driving (still not great, but better), far better soundtrack (after a while I played the first game with no music at all), and best of all... no stupid drinking games, etc.
It's one of those games where it gets to 11pm and you think "just one more mission", and the next thing you know it's 3am.
For those of you that muss Aiden's hat and trench coat you can get it in one of the early missions as a reward.
How can you miss Widens cap? You can get it in game and his coat
Just realised the comment before said the same thing, silly me
The game certainly has its flaws but I'm still really enjoying it. Then again, I'm one if the few people who could look beyond the originals shortcomings and thought that was a great game. There's no questioning the fact that this one has buckets more character, especially after seeing the 80s style montage during one of the Cyberdriver missions. Marcus is a lot more likeable than Aiden and the rest of the Dedsec crew are far more memorable (<3 Wrench). It's certainly a tough game, with Marcus being unable to take much punishment but that, as well as the placement of some of the collectibles, definitely make it a nice challenge. Really is a great game so far.
Agree with a lot of points from the previous post. I enjoyed the first game a lot for many different reasons. I think Ubisoft listened to the feedback from the first game I remember getting emails asking how it could be improved and they took this info on and created a better game in every way. it will not be everyones taste just like all games. But for me I am very happy with the reslts the visals are really good as well.
It's excellent but let's face it - it's basically GTA5 with hacking!
Kinda suprised that at the moment most people, who voted, didn't buy it like me, I really thought I was in a minority XD (Althought I expect the results to change soon).
Still undecided but the game has pros and cons. Its lighter tone from the first game is the big plus, it's just way more fun with likable characters. My main issue is the tough missions and brutal checkpoint system. Each mission has you up against many foes. When I approach a mission in a compound I look at the mass of enemies patrolling and I just sigh. I've been tactical and measured in taking out each one by one, however it takes time and if you mess up the checkpoint rolls you WAY back to the start. It unfortunately has me now leaning towards spray and pray, since I can often overpower in short order if I am fast enough. I just got tired of spending 25 minutes with stealth only to have a mess up have me do it all over again. So still trying to strike a balance.
I willl say one thing, the graphics look amazing on a PS4 Pro on a 1080p TV. It's not really mentioned anywhere but playing on the Pro, the game samples down for a stunningly smooth jaggy free presentation with brilliant colors that really pop. Really looks fantastic!
So I'll spend more time with it, getting into the groove, but clearly a lot of work and love went into this game. A smaller checkpoint window would make a huge difference, but the game is improved over the first on just about every level.
@frankmcma I'd recommend upgrading the Drone so it can drop stun grenades, makes taking out the patrols much quicker.
@DLB3 I highly recommend it. I admit it starts off a little meh but once you get introduced to everyone and get acquainted with the UI it's super fun. Especially hacking with the drone. It opens up so many hacking possibilities with the drone and r.c car. Get it. You won't regret it. Get it now! That's an order!
@Paranoimia Hi, i'm very fond of the original and i'm one of the few who particularly enjoyed the tone and Aiden Pearce as the main character of the first game. I also liked the AR Games like Psychedelic and Spider Tank and the minigames like Drinking Games etc. I hear the tone for this one is different, do you think i would still enjoy this game?
@Constable_What
Thanks for the info.
TLDR: I hate the driving, this game is a breath of fresh air
As far as the actual Aiden, I didn't care for him, didn't like him. The whole reason I played the game was for the Hacking that turned out to be the 2nd most boring piece of the game. One quick push and your causing mayhem. Fun at first, but it got boring, and the whole revenge for your niece idea.
WD2 so far has been a breath of fresh air. I'm a bit annoyed about the driving, its really frustrating to parallel park in this game. The main issue i have is, why is it every time I leave start a mission inside the hackspace, the car I was driving 90% of the time disappears. A few things like the lack of an actual pause menu, and no manual save button is another thing. Other than that, I like the AI, its a bit challenging trying to go through without killing, I want to retry and become a ghost the second time.
There's so much to see, listen to, snoop on. The skill tree is a nice addition, I do wish he had a few more abilities. I don't care about the multiplayer in this, since it's nowhere near the reason why I bought the game. I would honestly find it frustrating to have someone intrude in my game. That's my take, the most challenging mission so far was the one involving the tower.
@SPGFan34
Hi, I know the question wasn't directed to me, but watch some of the playthroughs on YouTube to get a good understanding of the game. That's the best advice I can give you, the tone is completely different, it all depends on your own wants and needs in a game. This game is like, a hacktivist GTA. In a sense, a modern day Robinhood, indirectly. (Routing money through bank accounts)
I think I'll get this game after I finish (plat) Dishonoured 2. It looks stylish and has a likable cringe to it.
@Rsco6969 Yes I need to get the drone! I am only a few hours in and need to save up for it. I assume quickest way to get cash for it is campaign?
@SPGFan34 As @Chris0160 says, I'd advise watching some gameplay videos on YouTube to help you decide. I'll be uploading some of my own mission play-throughs soon, but there are already plenty to watch.
I didn't dislike Aiden or the story, and I did - eventually - enjoy the first game, except for a few things. I didn't buy it when it first came out, but picked it up in a PSN sale for around £15. I started playing it, got bored, and left it for more than a year. When I went back to it, for some reason I actually enjoyed it more. I only have one unearned trophy, and that's for the stupid drinking games.
The second game is better in every way. Personally, I'd say that if you enjoyed the first, it's unlikely you won't like the second.
@Chris0160 Cool, don't worry I appreciate all replies. Yeah I have looked at some game plays and I have seen the E3 one loads of times now and the story does seem engaging and The mechanics seem similarish enough to the first one to satisfy me. I'm just worried it might ware thin after a certain time.
@Paranoimia Thanks for the reply! I have been on YouTube to watch some Gameplay videos and I have particularly enjoyed the E3 game demo. It does look very engaging so far, with the actual gameplay and shooting mechanics being similarish to the first one, which should satisfy me. I'm just concerned it might feel too much like GTA, which I don't want.
@SPGFan34 If it's any help, I had GTA V on PS3, I didn't take to the characters, and it bored me. Once I finished the story, I never went back to it; I wasn't interested in the online, although I know it's changed a lot since launch.
But I have no such boredom issues with WD2, and I'm enjoying it much more than I did GTA V.
I haven't played the first game. I can skip that and dive into the second game right? Or will I miss something?
@Paranoimia Yeah you're just like me. I got the GTA 5 remaster and found it very average. I don't really know what people see in it. I really enjoyed the original Watch Dogs though, and a lot of people are saying this is a much better game than the original, so I think getting it for Christmas would be a no-brainier really.
@frankmcma I found grabbing money bags to be the best thing to do, they're usually in red areas.
I got Watch Dogs 2 on Friday but i cannot pull myself away from Zombies in Spaceland, IW has done a bloody good job with it i was very surprised.
@shonenjump86 Nah you're good to start on the second game if you missed the first. It's 98% unrelated and a standalone game really...
Was very unimpressed with the first Watchdogs. But I have to admit GTA style games do very little for me nowadays. With all the good reviews maybe Ill give this a shot but only when I can find it 2nd hand for a third of current the price. But I think more interesting games will come up in the mean time and I wont have time for it anyway
Erm, is this some weird fan poll before declaring the actual score on the review? This is quite odd as the entirety of the review in text / paragraphs including conclusion is already there yet no reason is given for the score pending? Then all of a sudden there's a poll to see wether gamers are enjoying it first, before declaring a final score...
I think Push Square should return to its initial premise of definitive, professional-standard reviews which aren't affected by things like polls and clickbait - alas this score pending / poll THEN declaring score feels massively off, to this Decepticon at least....
I was also one of those who enjoyed the first game and didn't hate Aiden Pearce but this is an improvement for sure. Still early on in the game but I like the missions so far, particularly stealing the badass car, and Marcus is a better main character, seems to have more fun as opposed to being all dark and brooding. The whole point of open world games is fun so I'm glad they went down that route.
@Paranoimia Glad I'm not the only one who didn't like GTA V. The main characters were so unlikeable. I've never understood the games appeal or sales success.
@GBMatthew It's only been the recent games I've not enjoyed. I loved GTA3, and Vice City remains my favourite of the series.
I gave up on San Andreas after a few hours; I hated the character, and the motion blur when driving made me feel ill. GTA IV was okay, but too short with far too little to do, and again I wasn't keen on the character.
A friend wants me to pick up GTA V again on PS4 for the multiplayer, but it's still full price and I'm not paying that again for a game I didn't enjoy, even if the online has changed a lot since I had it on PS3.
A couple of ideas I think would have made this fun and beautiful game much better. A camera that snapped back behind the vehicles when driving, a create a crib feature that allows you to spend that money on pre selected open lots to then buy and upgrade houses to eventually mansions including garages to store your vehicles. A character customization feature male or female hacker and race choice, I believe makes it better to bond with character if player can choose someone similar to themselves. Underwater hacking missions would have been cool to and jet skis yes like gtav. Being able to watch trailers in crib, access game stats from a laptop in your crib and on your phone. More weapon selection and missions revolving around using them. The hacking thing is cool but with some added little touches, I think it could have been outstanding. Just my opinion of course.
Well, this is definitely going against the general concensus but I've played for about 8 hours and I've had to give it up for now as I've found it incredibly dull.
I completed the first watch dogs but I think it's highly unlikely that I'll be finishing this.
I just don't find it any fun at all. The missions are quite challenging and it all looks fairly nice but it's just incredibly bland with no soul at all.
The characters have no depth, the dialogue makes me cringe and there just seems a huge disconnect between where the story is going and your actions in missions.
The Scientology parody has been praised in reviews, and is the last story mission that I've done, but failed to engage me in any way.
Sorry to disagree with everyone but I found the last two assassins creed's incredibly flawed but far more enjoyable than this.
I'll be trading this pretty swiftly and finishing dishonoured 2.
