Square Enix has released an informative new Rise of the Tomb Raider trailer which details how the game can be played on PS4 Pro. Basically, it'll feature multiple modes that you can toggle between, allowing you to improve the frame rate, the resolution, or graphical effects in general.
Lara's latest already looks pretty good on a standard PlayStation 4, so we've no doubt that it'll be a treat for the eyes on Sony's upcoming supercharged console.

It's kinda funny...I gave up on PC gaming in 2010 and bought a PS3.
I wanted a Blu-ray player and something for games without PC hassles.
And now it feels like consoles are turning into PCs with different hardware and configuration options in games (eye candy vs performance).
@GamerDad66 I think that it is a good thing as this generation of consoles were significantly under powered hence both companies releasing new iterations so early in the product lifecycle. They are simply using the leapfrog business and product model to overcome the problems.
I hope all Pro games give you options. That way everyone can play how they want.
I bought this on Xbox and PC. Have it sat on my HDD on PS4 waiting for my Pro before I do one more play through of it. I know. I'm mad.
Waiting for the day when we can have both
While it's nice in theory to have the options, I buy consoles so that I DON'T have to mess about with graphics settings. Would much rather companies choose how they're going to improve the game and just patch it in. I'd hate it to get the point where I'm flipping toggles for things I don't understand in order to analyse the frame rate vs quality ratio.
Does the PS4 Pro update fix the response delay?
I don't understand why people are moaning about options. I've seen it for Nioh and now this.
If your not interested don't buy the console or don't change the settings. How dare they give us options !
@GamerDad66
Definitely agree with you!
Eh...? Multiple modes? That's like PC Graphic settings?
Does it run slower with more graphic options and such?
@B-I-G-DEVIL Conversely, if I WAS interested, I'd buy a PC. No one's said Sony are tying us down and forcing us, just expressing a concern about the future direction of consoles. For consoles, personally, I think developers should simply optimize their game as they think is best and release it. I don't really want to have to write up a pro/con list to decide which mode to use. And yes - this is getting ahead of myself - speculating about the future direction of the PlayStation platform. And yeah, if it gets to a point where I'm not happy with it, I won't buy it - perfectly capable of making a purchasing decision based on various factors. Again, that's why I own a console rather than a PC - because I went through a decision making process and preferred the simpler solution.
Private video can't watch it.
I really want to try it on my 1080p tv to see what's the difference compared to original ps4.

@SegaBlueSky well these options are great cos now they satisfy 2 core gamer types. Gamer 1 prefers more FPS less about anti aliasing etc. Gamer 2 cares more about beautiful blooms, aliasing, nicer shadows etc. PC games REQUIRE much tweaking in order to reach either of these modes. On PS4 pro it is simple switch between modes. On PC I use to spend hours, then next day, then downloading gfx updates, tweak a bit more. PS4 is much simpler and faster, therefore play and enjoy gaming faster. With PCs there is always a niggling thought in back of mind to constantly upgrade my gfx, cpu, mobo, etc. Time is too precious to be faffing about with silly PC tweaks and wasting money on upgrade after upgrade or competing with who's got the silliest FPS or uber super water cooler!
Now this I can get on board with.
Finally, true player's choice. If you value frame rate then toggle the locked 60fps mode on. If you'd rather play a Powepoint slide of the most beautiful stills you've ever laid eyes on, toggle the slideshow mode. If you want a balanced experience where you can actually discern motion but where the graphics are still reasonably high, toggle the balanced mode.
I like it.
@Ralizah this issue was fixed on last week o/

Ok, I love beautiful graphics. The witcher 3 is by far the most beautiful game I've ever played. I also played far harbour when it came out and made a promise to myself to try to avoid severe FPS drops in games by purchasing the pro. Problem is, the middle option (or 'balanced' as someone said) sounds like I'm having to settle for the option where I don't get the full experience from the game. Instead I always have to substitute one for another. I just want to know that when I play games via the pro on my 4K TV that I get the best quality that my TV can handle. If I choose FPS, how much graphical quality etc am I losing and vice versa
@bbq_boy Like I said - I'm worried about where it COULD go. For me the best and simplest solution would be for all games to just have two options - '1080' and '4k', with developers choosing the best setup for both modes. What I don't want to see is more and more toggles turning up as we go along - as long as it's extremely simple then it's fine. The PS Pro is only the beginning, and it won't take much before we end up in PC/smartphone upgrade cycles, which I'd much rather avoid. Just want to make sure the balance is kept.
