As we parroted at launch, PlayStation VR is about so much more than games. Proving that, the Fox Innovation Lab has lined up The Martian VR Experience, which will launch on the PlayStation 4 this week. Based upon last year's movie of the same name – itself inspired by Andy Weir's novel – the interactive short has been executive produced by none other than Ridley Scott.
The "game" – inverted quotes not intended in a derogatory sense – allows you to play out various scenes from the movie as though you're Matt Damon without the need for a green screen. The problem is that it's just not very good: the interactions are threadbare, and the novelty of virtual reality doesn't really bring much to the experience at all unless you're an enormous fan of the film.
As a marketing piece, it would make for a fine free download – but this is being flogged for £15.99/$19.99, which is comparable to some fully-fledged PlayStation VR games. It's simply too much for what it is, as the gameplay video embedded above will testify.

Hm, cool book and movie. This looks okay I suppose! The price isn't right though.
In the immortal words of Matt Damon;
"Matt Damon."
Eh, I'll probably buy it anyways. Looks cool. Always dreamed of being the first man on Mars as a kid, so this is kind of a childhood fantasy.
@get2sammyb 16 quid to sort potatoes. No thanks. This is the dross ive mentioned that really isnt going to help VR's cause.
Any word on the Apollo 11 experience? Now that seems to be good.
Bit expensive for £16, would've been better if was under a fiver or even better for free.
Should have been free to be fair, at the very least under £5 like a few other "experiences" are, I'll have to wait for the inevitable price drop.
Sounds interesting but the price looks a bit overprice for an "experience". Atleast Robinson The Journey felt more like a game.
However seeing a movie converting into a VR game makes me wish for a Godzilla VR game (and that is not made by Bamco).
If this wants my time it's going to have to charge me a lot less than £15.99! I'd have bought every PSVR title out there if they were priced the same as an equivalent none-VR game.
Well that's... interesting
mmmmm, I played this last night and is DEFINATELY NOT worth £16, The whole game/experience literally lasted 20 minutes, it was ok, for what it was, it should be maximum £5 or even free for what you are getting. It works out as £1.25 per minute of gameplay.....not worth it.
