First it was ZombiU, and now it's LEGO City Undercover: the Wii U fanboys would probably be fuming if Nintendo hadn't already ceased production of the catastrophic console. Writing on Twitter, Warner Bros has announced that the aforementioned Grand Theft Auto-inspired blockbuster will be setting a waypoint for the PlayStation 4 in Spring 2017. While details are thin at the time of typing, it sounds like a port.
The original, which launched all the way back in 2013, was actually very well received, and is considered in some circles to be one of the Wii U's finest games. With so many LEGO games already in the channel, though, we're finding it hard to muster much excitement for this overdue arrival. Then again, if the price is right, we're sure that it will find its audience – but will you be joining the chase on day one?

I've played it before and will definitely double dip. one of the best Wii U games, especially in its first year. Now to get this for PS4 or Switch is the question.
I'll buy it. I liked the Lego City Undercover game that released on 3DS and this one is by all accounts much better. Not sure I'd drop $60 if it's just a straight port, but $30 or $40 and it'll be a must.
A stunner on Wii U, and if the price is right I may well give it another go.
@get2sammyb
You make it sound like it's only coming to the PS4 like every other multiplat games out there. This is what I dislike most about this site. At least embed the tweet. I don't see how Nintendo "fanboys" have something to be fuming about because it's also coming to Xbox One, PC and the Nintendo Switch.
Anyway it's a great game. I hope they fix the loaaaaaaaading time.
@Splatburst We're a PlayStation website. Writing out a list of every platform a game is coming to is just as irrelevant to our audience as reporting on new Gears of War 4 maps and revealing the price of Super Mario Run.
I really don't like the Lego games but this is by far the best one. My son loves it and I actually enjoy watching him play it.
@get2sammyb
I'm fully aware of that. But then, you make it sound like Nintendo "fanboys" have been left out when it's also coming to the Switch. Super Mario Run is irrelevant here until maybe Sony announces Uncharted Run so I don't see your pale comparison.
@get2sammyb I agree with you. I come to this site for Sony news.
@get2sammyb No, Splatburst is right. The wording of this story is unprofessional. It says that "fanboys" of the "catastrophic" Wii U have something to be mad about, and implies that Lego City is only coming to PS4. It needs to be fixed.
I wanted to pick this up on the Wii U ,but now its coming to the PS4 even better
get rid of the gimicks & a fresh lick paint this is well worth it.on wii u was great game
Actually quite excited for this, the LEGO games have become really stale recently and - although this is quite an old game - it looks more interesting and different.
I love Lego games and one based entirely on Lego rather than another existing franchise was something I was always interested in. Glad I can finally have the chance to play this.
Just read the info as it is guys and move on. Its a PS site, no need to talk about other consoles.
OT: I'll be picking this up so long as it's the right price
"With so many LEGO games already in the channel, though, we're finding it hard to muster much excitement for this overdue arrival"
This is quite different to your typical film tie-in Lego game though...
@DLB3 Your contradicting yourself in that statement. If he doesn't have to mention every console it's coming to, then by that logic he doesn't have to mention every console it's co ing from, he can just say "Lego City Undercover is coming to PS4 Spring 2017". Once he mentioned Wii U well then he was mentioning other consoles and therefore opening himself up for critique. And that's not even enjoy mentioning the "fanboy" comment. And if it's a Sony site why should anybody care if the Wii U was catastrophic? Just write "LCU, previously on Wii U" then nobody would say anything.
So, basically, he started it. Either he talks about other consoles or he doesn't, he comments on fans of other consoles or he doesn't. Can't say "We are only a Sony site, we only comment on Sony matters." while at the same time bad mouthing both another consoles sales and it's fans. That's called hypocrisy, and nobody likes a hypocrit.
Why talk about the other consoles when this is a Sony website?
@Kage_88 Bit the Wii U was a catastrophe. It's Nintendo's worst selling console ever. I know the truth can hurt at times but @get2sammyb is just being honest.
I'll get it. Always looked a fun game when I saw Wii U gameplay.
Just wanted to say that I visit this site as it has a 'personality' reminiscent of the great UK video games magazines of my youth (now all sadly long gone). I think Sammy and the team do a great job of adding a few playful jibes without going too far.
On topic: this looks much more fun than the usual LEGO offerings. Need more family games for my oldest son who is starting to take an interest in games!
Glad this is coming to ps4,it always looked like a lot of fun but was never interested in a wiiu.
Ps surprisingly,I only come here for PlayStation news too.
Very good game! I finished it before trading my U almost a year after this launched. Those loading screens though...... Anyway, hopefully it will be better received on PS4 along with much shorter load times. If so then I'll consider re buying.
I never got to finish this before my wiiu was stolen. I may just grab it for the switch!
@Kage_88 Agreed unprofessional, unnecessary and frankly a little childish.
I'm gonna ignore the weird slapfight in the comments and say this, This is the absolute best lego game out there absolutely do buy this if you enjoyed any other lego game slightly.
Sweet! Always wanted this but i never got a Wii U!
@rjejr Ill jump in and say NintendoLife manages to mention other consoles cordially and freauently. Its not treated like the plague.
I think allowing discussion of gaming with a site themed focus is good. No need for the walled garden, everyone is a gamer.
They probably won't do it but they should make the Vita work as the Wii U gamepad screen. By this way the original scope of the game remains.
Great game, will defo pick this up. It is without doubt my favourite Lego game. I just hope not too much is left out in the porting i.e. the Gamepad usage although it's not a disaster if so.
And just to weigh in, the WiiU sales were a catastrophe, not the console. I'm very fond of my WiiU. I feel that slagging off rival consoles was an unprofessional thing of the 90's. When did you last hear Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft badmouthing the competition. From what I've seen - over the last few years especially - has been nothing but respect.
@rjejr So would you paint Lego City as a completely new game? It's not. It will likely even be a port, so reference from where its coming from is absolutely justified. There's nothing wrong with having a little fun and he's not wrong as its seems like some fanboys were indeed triggered.
I come to PushSquare for PlayStation news, as it is a PlayStation site. I don't care for the other platforms, that's the reason why I left PSLIfestyle.
@Tasuki The thing is the Wii U could have easily reached 20-25 million sales had Iwata not mentioned NX less than two years into the Wii U's life-cycle. Nintendo themselves killed it, otherwise it would have maintained its sales and would have been an average selling console. Nintendo have just gone insane and think that anything that sells less than the Wii is a failure despite there being literally no hope for any of the big three to draw back the casuals.
This was a fun title on the Wii U, but since I ended up getting rid of the system, I'll look forward to buying it on PS4 for the trophies, but I'm sure I'll also purchase it on Switch for the nintendo themes (I doubt the nintendo themes will be available on PC, XBONE or PS4)
@Rukiafan7 Mentioning the NX had nothing to do with the Wii U's demise. It was doomed from the beginning. No third part support. Poor marketing such as the name and pigging back off of the Wii's success. If they would have got the third part support like Madden, GTA etc. And called it something different then I am sure it would have done better.
Amazing little gem. I'm happy more people will get to play it, as it's the best Lego game by far in my opinion.
That first sentence in the article, though... yeesh. You guys run a great site, and I really don't think you need to resort to that kind of childish clickbait to get more people to read the articles.
Wii U fanboys have probably just resigned from feeling anything about the Wii U at this point, really. They'll just shrug at this.
Good game though, really worth the buy
It's also coming to the Nintendo Switch
Switch will keep the Nintendo easter eggs so get rekt
REALLY don't like the way this article was written about Wii U fanboys, most of them are not even mad and they're accepting the cold truth, this author is trying to piss people off lol
"Nintendo fanboys fuming"
Indeed.
I see Nintendo fans upset when even 3DS or Switch gets a Wii U game ported!
For real, steam-piping rage because Mario Maker, Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles X is coming to Switch (supposedly). It's like Sony fans getting outraged over Valkyria Chronicles being ported to PS4 lol
I could at least understand the mentality of being upset over rival consoles getting a game, childish as it may be. But when it's another Nintendo console? Lol you can't make this stuff up
edit
All that said, I also think it was a very unprofessional comment. I'm inclined to actually agree with the sentiment, but I'm just a nobody in the comment section. I'm not setting the tone for the entire site.
I could only imagine if Nintendolife wrote an article talking about Vita being a catastrophe and fuming Sony fanboys. I seriously doubt the people defending this would be on NintendoLife defending that.
Interesting. Those that agree with my stance cite NLife's professionalism as examples of mentioning the competition.
Whilst those who disagree have used the terms 'catastrophic', 'fanboys', 'ninty cheerleaders' and 'SJW BS'.
Frankly, that alone says everything about the mentality of this community.
Oh, and @Tasuki, saying that the Wii U is a 'catastrophe' is not only needless on a website that claims to be impartial to console wars - but also a pointlessly broad statement in itself.
The fact that it only sold 13 million units? Sure, that's catastrophic. But that's also one factor of the console. What about its game library? Or the fact that it nevertheless made Nintendo a (small) profit?
By your logic, I could say the PS3 was catastrophic too, since it cost Sony billions and was a contributor in forcing the company to drastically downsize. Or what about the Vita? That sold even less than Wii U, but I don't see Push Square refer to the 'C' word when describing it.
Frankly, I'm done with this site. I've given it enough chances, but the amateurish reporting and deluded, NeoGAF-esque community has simply gotten the better of me. Pure Xbox was a haven compared to this place.
I wish everyone the best. I'm out.
so much butthurt on both sides here and for what? a hobby. Ppl need to get a grip of themselves.
Everyone is entitled to their own views. Doesn't mean it's the views of a site... anysite. Wise up and get on with your lives. If you don't like the context or opinion of a site or review no biggie. Close the page and move on with your life or search for new info elsewhere this time.
Always liked the look of this game!
AWESOME.
@Kage_88 Are you blind man?? Sammy has reported several times and has written dozens of articles about the short comings of the Vita. But like a typical Nintendo fan even if someone remotely says something negative about Nintendo be it true or what you go to extremes.
As for Pure Xbox interesting that you say that when they are the ones that are no longer around.
I agree that the wording is needlessly negative overall. And people have as much right to express their disagreement as Sammy is of writing this.
Let the complainers complain about the other complainers.
After reading the first paragraph I felt this article may be provocative and, as it turns out, it seems I was right from reading the comments. If you are a Wii U owner though and feeling a little miffed by this, just remember you at least got games that worked out of the box without a patch and didn't have to pay to play online. In the end there shouldn't be sides, we as gamers should just strive to get the best experience we can and call out the software houses for dodgy practices, not each other.
On the topic of the article, I'm glad less and less games are exclusive as it is good for the consumer. While it seems unlikely we'll see the end of console developer's exclusives (although, having said that, Microsoft seem to have started to move that way and even Sony may do with their PSNow service), it is becoming too costly for the console makers to gain 3rd party exclusivity of any game which is only a good thing.
Yup, here come the Nintendo crybabies as usual. I love the bashing of this community but the same happens if you dare mention at Nintendo Life that you prefer another console. It's a PS website grow up, if you don't like them reporting on PS news and can't handle a little, though correct, swipe at your precious Nintendo move on. I'm a Nintendo fan but the Wii U was the worst Nintendo console of all time, sales and software wise.
So maybe there's hope for Bayonetta 2 after all
@JaxonH
And some PS fanboys were up in arms over Gravity Rush 2 going PS4 exclusive and Xbox fans lost their collective minds ('I'm cancelling my pre-order!') when it was announced Quantum Break was also going to be on PC. All fanboys complain about weird stuff. The only thing I'll say is the complaining will be somewhat justified if these are just straight ports. I won't be upset about a straight port of Xenoblade X to Switch because I haven't played the game before but if somebody who has played the hell out of the game were to call bs I could understand.
Neat to know that they're porting this game to PS4, but didn't Nintendo publish this? I wonder why they were able to port it.
@DLB3
All of the big 3 have at one point or another done some dumb sh*t to screw people over, so it's hard for me to have any good feelings for any of them. I do appreciate them providing platforms I can play games on but at the end of the day that's what it should come down to. The fact some people get so damn bent out of shape when a writer, on a console specific website no less, criticizes another brand, is hilarious. What's more hilarious is in this case it wasn't even bad and it certainly wasn't untrue. All these are fact... Wii U is the worst selling Nintendo console of all-time and despite a one-year headstart and the disaster of a debut Xbox One had, the Wii U still ended up in last place coming off the phenomenal success of the original Wii. And Wii U's library, while good for hardcore Nintendo fans, isn't exactly stellar beyond that. If people hate facts, that's their own problem doesn't mean a writer shouldn't point it out. I do take issue with the writers here from time to time but any criticism of the Wii U is fair, just like the criticism of the PS3 was more than fair last gen and it happened often. Thing is, PS3 still went on to sell more units than any Nintendo home console except the original Wii and it even surpassed the 360 at the end to move into second place. So the Nintendo fans crying a river need to grow up. It's a PlayStation website, if you don't it you don't have to visit. Really don't see how it's such a difficult concept for some.
@Tasuki They'll never listen man let's just agree to disagree
@Kage_88 One last thing. PS articles aren't the place for multiplatform discussion- the forums are. Considering that some of the most active threads are about other platforms this should be a better indicator of the 'mentality of this community'.
Yet we get some people that bring up Nintendo in every article, no matter the relevance.
This is just their writing style. It brings personality to the article. Their have been plenty of digs at beloved franchises (KH, Darksiders, DBZ/Naruto=Weebs) and platforms (Vita) but the community takes it as it is. The second anyone says anything about Nintendo fans immediately jump on their high horse.
/Rant Over
@Gamer83 Sad thing is Sammy is just telling the truth. Nintendo fans were crying when Raymen Legends became a multiplatform. Even when ZombiU went multiplatform years after they had it on Wii U they whined. I just don't understand it.
@Tasuki
Yeah, that's true, I understood their disappointment there though. Obviously Ubisoft was just making a business decision in regards to Rayman but it was originally announced as Wii U exclusive then before it even releases they switch things up totally and announce it's multiplat, kind of sabotaged any chance of great sales on Wii U and at that time the console was still very much alive so Nintendo fans being angry wasn't surprising. I never understood the anger about ZombiU though. Not a great game, didn't sell well and I'm pretty sure it had been only on Wii U for two years or more before it hit the competition and the console was done as a viable platform at that point. ZombiU wasn't like the Rayman Legends situation or Rise of the Tomb Raider and Street Fighter V deals where I thought people had legit reason to be upset by poor decision making. My thing is I get more worried about these deals though, not because of benefit to a certain brand or console maker but for the franchises themselves. Rayman has never been a huge seller but I still believe the Tomb Raider and Street Fighter deals have done more harm to those series in the long run than good.
@Fight_Teza_Fight
That's true too. PushSquare is always taking shots. Sometimes it's warranted, sometimes not but it is what it is. And a lot of the time some of these Nintendo fans I see b*tching about a supposed 'slap' at Nintendo jump on the hate bandwagon in regards to the potshots at franchises with close PlayStation ties. As the saying goes, those who live in glass homes...
Well this just confirms about the mentality of the commenters in this site. I guess it's best not question their beloved Sammy Barker.
@JaxonH
Actually comments on Nintendo-only sites have been overwhelmingly positive on the LCU news except for the usual "everything about the Switch is a port" camp. And not everyone agree with vocal complainers.
@DLB3
I come here for my PS news, as I visit NLife for my Nintendo news. Shame that PureXbox have to close down. No fanboy wars in there and ALL the writers were very professional.
@rjejr @Kage_88 @YouSeemFRAZZLED and the others.
Thanks! You guys put it better than I did. Can't believed I/we are being labelled as crybabies and cheerleaders for calling out the article. Better not fuel the angry Sammy fanboys any further. Good day!
I will probably get this I didn't end up getting it on wii u
@Splatburst
I don't think anybody here is a 'Sammy fanboy.' I know I've criticized the writers here plenty. What we're sick of is you Nintendo white knights who only come here to start trouble.
@JoeBlogs Switch is a handheld at heart so it should be good for 70 mil sales at least. It won't fail, that's for sure.
I was never upset that Rayman Legends went multiplat, it was how it went down that pissed off most Nintendo fans. They held back a fully completed game to release it at the same time as the PS3/360/Vita versions months later? That was just a crappy move in general.
@Splatburst Thanks. And I can believe every name that's thrown my away, not a single one hasn't.
@DiscoGentleman Thanks. Not to be feeding you a line, but I can't recall ever seeing you here before. Did you swing by b/c somebody mentioned PS in the NL article? Seeing your Toad on the PS site is kind of weird. But good weird.
Oh, for the record, I'm a huge fan of sammy's, been coming here for 6 or 7 years and I'll probably stop coming here when he leaves, but I like my kids too, and when they mess up I tell them so. Nobody's perfect.
While it is a shame one of the best Wii U exclusives is exclusive no more it does mean more folks can play the best Lego game out there.
Here's hoping they fix the atrocious loading times.
@NintendoFan4Lyf Exactly. Nintendo fanboys didn't got crying when Sega commericals had their Sega does What Nintendon't campaigns and such, I being a huge Nintendo fan myself thought it was pretty clever. Or even in the early days of the Playstation when they had their Crash calling out Mario commercials, it was almost like rival sport teams.
But alas this is the age where people are over sensitive to the point where we can't do that anymore without hurting someone's feelings and the age of the internet where anyone can rage over anything without the fear of being retaliated physically.
@Fight_Teza_Fight "There's nothing wrong with having a little fun and he's not wrong as its seems like some fanboys were indeed triggered."
Of course the fanboys were triggered, he called them out. But they weren't triggered b/c of the game being ported, they were triggered b/c he called them fanboys.
Let's try this, 2 different ways I could reply to your comment saying the same thing:
"Hey you F@#king @$$hole, what's wrong w/ you, how can anybody be so stupid, why don't you just shut the 4k up!!"
or
"Thanks for the reply, I see what your saying, but I think you have it wrong."
Both of those comments say basically the same thing, that same thing being "I don't agree w/ you." but you would probably react differently to each reply.
So yes, sammy saying "this game is a Wii U port" makes sens.e But then saying "We aren't allowed to talk about other systems on this site, only PS4" is hypocritical b/c he just mentioned the Wii U, didn't he? And there was no need for him to write "Catastrohpic failure", he can save those comments for the Vita is he feels the needs to write those words. And the Nintneo fanboys have nothing to do w/ the game being ported or not, nobody asked them.
Thing is, this isn't the first time. People working here are always pushing the envelop of the type of language allowed - they curse, or sort of curse, "4k" all the time - but any time anybody else uses similar language they get sanctioned. People get scolded ALL THE TIME for going off topic but Sammy wrote an article on the Switch. Oh sure, he tried to word it like it was relevant, but if Sony fans only care about Sony products, then why write about Switch at all?
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2016/10/reaction_nintendo_switch_knocks_the_final_nail_in_ps_vitas_coffin
People don't like being told what they can't say or write about by people who are writing and saying whatever they want. Hypocrisy is a big no-no w/ most people. And it's been an issue for the past year or so. I've been on here since The Last Guardian was a PS3 game and everything has always been honky-dory up until recently. I wouldn't be surprised if ownership stepped in and/or the shutting down of PureXbox wasn't a factor.
@Bliquid @Tasuki @NintendoFan4Lyf @rjejr @get2sammyb Yeah, I definitely see the steam from all those Wii U fanboys fuming ahahahah
C'mon, just read the equivalent NLife article and you'll see that people commenting are either:
1) complaining about those loading times and hoping for them to get fixed in the re-release;
2) glad the game's coming out on other platforms so that more people can enjoy it.
Also, the "we only care about PS cause we're on a PS site" just doesn't make sense. Won't you account for all those in here who own more than one platform? What if I'd rather get it on Steam but I'm not informed about it?
I know as a fact some people in here own more than one console, so why not inform them about the other possibilities? Does it cost that much to type in other consoles' names?
Again, just read the comments there and you'll see a lot of people undecided whether to buy it on PS4 or Switch.
You know, it's about giving out complete information on the subject you're writing about.
And that's not even considering the entitlement in badmouthing another console (which I know as a fact some of your readers own) while relentlessly silence those who mention a non-PS product in the comment section.
This is not staying on topic, this is arbitrarily depriving commenters of their freedom to touch certain subjects and show your narrow-mindedness. Why can Sammy and co. mention "rival" consoles when we comnenters can't? Hypocrisy? I think that's the only option left.
Again, NLife has a lot of flaws in itself, but on this matter you've only got to learn from them (both authors and commenters alike).
This is just my two cents, but of course I'll be labeled as a "Wii U fanboy".
@DLB3 "My original point isn't that the comment was justified, but it also in no way implies that LCU is ONLY coming to PS4.
I guess the arguement would be - if you are mention what other systems the game is coming from, then you should also mention what other systems the game is coming too. B/c if you have to mention it's a port FROM Wii U, then you should also mention that it is not a PS4 exclusive and will also be available on "other" systems.
But more importantly, you can't say "coming from Wii U" and then say - "we don't mention other systems on this site." You just did mention another system. That's the contradiction Maybe not your contradiction, maybe just PS's.
Let me get this straight, most of you are saying that if a person has an opinion different to your own then you just label them a fanboy and a cry baby. The hypocrisy is laughable, grow up.
As someone who has played the original version on the Wii U, I will absolutely be picking this up. I definitely recommend it to anyone on this site who has yet to play it.
Can we not just chalk this up to being an intentional troll move done for clicks? I mean Sammy knows that plenty of NL readers frequent this site as well, so he knew he would get a reaction/clicks by wording the article the way he did.
"First it was ZombiU, and now it's LEGO City Undercover: the Wii U fanboys would probably be fuming if Nintendo hadn't already ceased production of the catastrophic console."
Not to mention the catastrophic controller!
@Fight_Teza_Fight That's true
HA
HA
HA.
@get2sammyb "the Wii U fanboys would probably be fuming if Nintendo hadn't already ceased production of the catastrophic console" I'm not fuming, but that sounds unnecessarily hostile... o_O
This comment section...
@Octane
I miss all fun.
@rjejr
Went from 100 mil sales of the original Wii to about 16 mil with the Wii U and a dead last finish which includes being outsold by a console that had the worst response to a reveal since the Sega Saturn. A game library that doesn't appeal to anybody outside the hardcore Nintendo fanbase. That's a pretty damn big failure.
@Gamer83 "That's a pretty damn big failure."
I don't think I said it wasn't, did I? And if you are trying to say it's too much of a faiulure to compare it to the Vita, well PSP sold 82 million, Vita sold 13 million, and Vita was only $200, Wii U was $300, going up from the Wii's $250, so I'd say the Wii U - Vita comparison is very apropos.
Did you really post that at 3AM? Were you coming home from a Thanksgiving Eve night of revelry? I remember being young and single in NYC, that was always the best night to go out. I went to bed at 9:30 last night, I'm cooking a turkey for 15 people today, but I'm buying some games on Gamestop first, Ratchet & Clank and Dragon Quest Heroes Title That Just Won't End for $9.99 each.
@rjejr
Yeah, I typed it at 3 am, who cares? Of course the Vita is a failure compared to PSP and I believe I even mentioned in this thread PS3 was a failure. So you're barking up the wrong tree calling me out. You've commented here long enough to know I never give these companies a pass on their shortcomings.
@Gamer83 I wasn't calling you out, you're extra cranky this morning, you should get some sleep. And if you don't believe me try rereading this sentence - "I believe I even mentioned in this thread PS3 was a failure." I'm sure that was auto-correct from PSP to PS3, PS3 was not a failure, even if PS2 did twice as much, but normally you would have caught that, you never have typos.
@rjejr
I scrolled back and it looks like I didn't call PS3 a failure in any of my comments for this article, I have in the past said it was a failure though and in many ways it was. Great software library and still went on to sell over 80 million units however going from first to second and losing more than half the market share you once commanded in addition to the money the system lost early on is not a tremendous success story. Still not the disaster Wii U was. That point doesn't change. I don't understand why people got so pissed off about Sammy mentioning it Maybe he could've worded it differently but it wasn't worth all this discussion. Some people simply can't handle any criticism of Nintendo which is pathetic.
