No Man's Sky's first update since right around launch is landing soon, and it's a humdinger. Proving that developer Hello Games hasn't been sitting on its hands these past three months, the studio has uploaded a lengthy video outlining everything that it's adding to its space opera as part of the recently revealed Foundation Update.
You can find the full patch notes through here.

This is so great to see! Can't wait to dive back in.
Out now!
Doesn't really change the game much, in that its still self-directed with a real goal. Gives you another thing to do, though, and looks well implemented.
Might consider buying the game now, look's like a new game. Probably will tbh but not right now it's in the BF week sale atm but i'm holding onto my cash for FFXV.
I think it might end up on PS+ at some point next year. Will definitely give it a go if it does, good to see they're still working on it despite all the controversy and hostility.
Ha! Knew it was a good idea to keep my copy gonna install it tonight, is the update out now?
Edit: didn't see that it is indeed out now
Maybe there's still hope! Maybe they will add dinosaurs! Reasons to hunt! Enemies!
This makes me excited for the future but still think it's not enough for me to install it for now!
Let's wait some more months!
The original game was rushed out to suit Sony profits.
It is up to Hello games to keep their integrity intact by giving you what was already there but more time was needed.
Looks like I need to get back into No Man's Sky.
If Hello Games continues updates like this one, I can see this game being much more enjoyable.
Looks good, but I couldn't wait and traded my copy in. Sure it'll be heading to plus soon.
Very happy with this - sure it's not going to change things substantially but for those who kept expectations in check this is some great new content. Going to try it out myself later on today. If they keep this up I can't wait to see how NMS looks a year after release.
I'm glad I just snagged this game for $13~
I'm just happy to see updates. Especially one that fixes annoyances. I'd rather have that than some big new feature with said annoyances still in tact.
Looks good, hopefully they keep it up.
why didnt they hold off a few months to release this Version, Sales would have been strong & player base would have stayed. Im re buying the game now.
@Anguspuss Sales were strong anyway, besides people were getting sick of the game taking forever. This is what happens when a fanbase and media demand a release date then through their toys out of the pram because it didn't have everything people wanted.
@Neolit I did exactly the same, so glad I bought it on psn or I may have traded it in. Can't wait to take over a planet of my own and build a freighter 😃😃😃
@get2sammyb - I can't wait for your "I tried the No Man's Sky update but I still hate it" article.
I'm gonna go ahead and take everything in that video with a grain of salt
@adf86 simple release a early access version like say Subnautica. Anyone couldn't wait then they could play. Also would have helped if Sean hadn't jollied around the world on every show he could. Then game comes out & silence.
The easiest thing would have been release game & tell everyone what the plan was for next 6 months. You would have still got some idiot's but most normal people would have been satisfied. But remember this was released same price as AAA game. Had it been any bigger studio It would have actually got more flak.
@kyleforrester87 I find it difficult to keep expectations in check and still be satisfied with the original release. I know I'm beating a dead horse at this point, but I can't ignore the straight up lies. I kept me expectations in check, but the game didn't turn out to be the game that was originally promised to us.
@Anguspuss After the death threats the studio heads got for delaying the game the first time, I can understand why they didn't want to delay it again.
I haven't played this game for a long time, and since I had more or less lost interest in it I was thinking of getting rid of it. Not anymore.
I'll definitely be jumping back into NMS to see the changes for myself. Great to see they're still passionate about it.
Just ordered it on euronics.it for € 22. Day One is for losers!
@Octane I expected it to be pretty rubbish and was actually impressed with the game as it was at launch, I can (edit: not can't lol) see why people who were super excited for it were let down though. In terms of lies, I dunno..all I can say is I don't feel decieved myself. Maybe I would do if I'd been following it more closely prior to launch.
I'm playing survival now, it's bloody hard!
Not sure the game was rushed out for "sony profit". I always expected this game to evolve over time and think this is a very positive move forward. This game was on my radar then off but now its back on again. Not a game I would want to pay £40 for but certainly one I will get in the sales.
Gamers build up hype for a game. Games almost always change in terms of graphics and gameplay from what is first shown.
@dryrain @DLB3 your both right the game was perfect when it came out..........How dare people complain about crashes, parts missing, etc etc.
To be fair to them, it's a good update.
I still don't get the whole "lies" accusation when they said all along that it was a procedural space survival game. It just comes across as people who overhyped the game (media included) then didn't like it so are over compensating by picking holes in every interview Sean Murray gave and taking the times where he was vague on details to claim he "lied". The fact people are still moaning about lack of multiplayer shows many still have no idea what the game is.
The whole thing has been a sad indicment on the core gaming space, from people like Geoff Keighley who used his awards show as a platform to announce NMS yet throws the developers down the river saying "he knew about the game's issues in advance" but conveniently didn't say such things before the fact. And to consumers who lost their minds after one trailer that the development team became household names overnight that led to Sony (quite rightly) latching onto it because they knew they had a system seller on it's hands. Where Hello Games went wrong especially Sean Murray was not letting Sony have more influences within it's development. If they did they would have had more resources to make the game have more features, much more in depth QA and perhaps more importantly, a dedicated community manager who would have handled much more of the PR side of things and lessened the impact among certain gamers who wanted a different game to the one HG were making.
@DLB3 I disagree I think the gents that made the game are not to blame .
They would have released the game yesterday if it was up to them.
Looks great tbh. I haven't played it since I got the plat but I did enjoy it while it lasted. That shiny trophy will often kill a game for me, just couldn't find a reason to play anymore. I'll defo give the update a whirl tomorrow. Now I need some help.. I followed path of the atlas, got 10 atlas stones and left by mistake! Now I'm 'lost'. Any quick way back onto it? I hear it's not worth it but it's a shame not to finish it.
@DLB3 nowt wrong with debate I bid you a good day Sir..
Started a "survival" save, taken me 2 hours and lots of "just made it" moments getting to my ship and getting a save point built. Now to get my ship repaired and get off this toxic planet!
Seen this for £12 anyone think it's worth a go now? If so, might pick it up in morning if it's still on offer...
Didn't think this was coming to xbox one but the pictures say otherwise
@PostmanPatinator Yes, £12 is well worth it IMO.. It's £15 in cex anyway
Good for Hello, good for players. Hope this is sign of things to come.
Is it just me though, or did anyone else have a little voice in the back of their head saying 'yeah, bull' during that video?
I think I'll personally have to wait and see....

Oh man this looks great. Time to jump back in it seems.
Wow. That is significantly better than I expected. Looking forward to what future updates hold.
@Bhattiboy I'm with you on this one, NMS and Hello Game's got Sony'd and now the game is starting to recover. Big corp's like Sony are no different than politician's, they tell us what we wanna hear and then do whatever they want. Liar's the lot of em, it's all about the money. And before anybody say's Hello Game's said we have a full reign over content and Hello Game's said this and that......OFC they did, do you think Sony would of backed them if they said anything else??!! All internal politic's that we (as the little people) will never know anything about.
@xMEADx Conversely, perhaps the fact that NMS was overly hyped and lead to so many sales has given Hello Games the money they need to fund these improvements. Had they held off on the release to make these improvements they wouldn't be doing so with money in the bank, I guess!
For me its much easier now to find some kind of direction in NMS.
I want a base, I want a freighter ... this will keep me busy for a while
Fallout 4 could learn a lot from the base building here. Well handled. I lvoe that you can build a new one in each system for no real extra cost to your credits.
The leaving broadcast messages for other players who come nearby is a neat little update, too!
@xMEADx At the end of the day I am on the little peoples side like independent game developers that spend thousands upon thousands of hours creating games.
If Hello games was so crud why did they bring out the foundation update they could of hid in the corporate towers oh wait that is sony's trick.
@kyleforrester87 when I first read what you said I thought utter nonsense but with it being you who generally does make sense I can see what you mean and I think a lot of developers are adopting the same route it a dog eat dog world out there and they use any means to survive.
I'm going to jump back in tonight to try it out (still got it installed on my PS4) I hope the next update puts in VR Support, that wold make a huge difference as well
@Bhattiboy Honestly, I don't think it was necessarily an intentional move by them to do that - I like to think they released the game when they thought it was ready - but the inevitable result is that they DO now have a ton of money to hopefully improve on it, money they wouldn't have otherwise had..so oddly, it could end up being a better game in the long run as a result of their ability to invest more into it now, instead of doing all this before a payday and with the pressure to release, you know? IF, of course, they choose to do so. They could just as well knock out a few updates and shut up shop. But lets hope they don't want that to be their legacy.
@kyleforrester87 Picked it up this morning for £12 can't really go wrong! Not really going into it expecting anything amazing but looking forward to finding a cool planet making a cool base and getting a good spaceship atleast.
Quick question can you create on all these game modes?
@PostmanPatinator For that money, even without this update, it's worth it in my opinion! You can create in normal and create mode (obviously!), survival I'm not so sure..but I don't see why not.
Hopefully we'll have another Driveclub on our hand/
@adf86 That wasn't the reason if you followed NMS you would know why a lot of people felt ripped off, and why thay where under investigation.
@xMEADx its all documented what HG did and didn't say.
HUZZAH!
@Neolit Me too.
Just downloaded it whilst enjoying Bioshock, it looks like a fantastic array of new features which bodes very well for the larger updates - bravo Hello Games.
Now add some individuality to the ships and stories as quests.....👌
Buggies incoming?
