Delightfully fun sandbox craft-'em-up Dragon Quest Builders has sold over 1 million units worldwide since it launched in Japan back at the start of the year, Square Enix has announced. The title released mid-October over here in the West.
Not bad numbers for what can be considered a niche game, and we assume that the publisher will be reasonably pleased with its performance. We reckon that a sequel is basically a given, and wouldn't be at all surprised to hear about it at some point next year.

Im loving it on my vita
That is great news I hope it leads to an even better sequel. I had more fun with this game than many of the so called AAA titles this year. It reminded me of the old PS2 era of games which were great and all about gameplay diversity and mostly having fun.
I just bought the first DQH game, is the 2nd even out in the west yet?, so I'm a little behind in my DQ spinoffs, but as soon as we can pick this up for $10 it's ours.
And yeah, it's niche, but niche mix of Mine craft which is huge in the west and DQ which is huge in the east, it probably should have sold better. Is this a PS4 exclusive? That would limit it's sales, most families and kids are still on last gen, and this always looked like a kids game to me. I could see this being big on Vita in Japan. Guess I'll go look it up.
Edit - guess I should have known, yet another game Japan got on the PS3 on disc. Japan also got it on cart on Vita. US/EU got Vita digitally. I think this would have sold well digitally in the west on PS3, their loss I guess.
Played the demo, first Dragon Quest game but I adored it and bought it on PS4 the other day for $47 (nearly or more than half price depending on where you look in Aus), terrific game.
I want to buy it but my backlog is too big, the game doesn't have steelcase version so maybe I'll buy it digital when it's discounted.
Nice to see more niche games being successful even if more triple AAA games are failing.
I've been playing this while waiting for Final Fantasy XV's patch to download, and it's really fun. Loved the demo and really loving the game.
Anything Dragon Quest and I'll snatch it up.Had this pre ordered and been playing it ever since...fantastic game that I'm enjoying immensely.Over fifty hours in and just started chapter 3.Could be my game of the year
This game is great in so many ways just makes you smile when you play it. But for the life of me I do not understand the decision not to have multi-player so you can create and build qith other users. Creative games like these benfit so much more when like minded players come together and make something truly great.
Come on people get this game it's great for the reduced price.
This game is incredibly good. It's one of the few modern games I include among my favorites.
Waiting for a sale on vita, then will pick it up
Building a new spin-off!
I'll admit that I didn't finish the last chapter yet, but I really really loved this game when I payed it. The lack of coop hurts, but I'm glad to know it did fairly well. Maybe the next one will feature coop
