It was written in the stars that Dynasty Warriors 9 would be announced during one of series veteran Robert Ramsey's student-esque sleeps. Thus, it's left upon this author's shoulders to hastily inform you that the ninth instalment in Koei Tecmo's swashbuckler has been revealed – and it's going open world.
No platforms have been announced at the time of typing, but Sony's Atsushi Morita introduced the title, so it's probably safe to assume that it's going to at least be on the PlayStation 4. Either way, the game's promising something of a "rebirth" for the series, with the aforementioned sandbox being one of the key alterations. All 83 characters (!!!) from the previous entry will appear.
We're sure that Ramsey will share more with you in due time, but this was a low-key reveal for now.

finally we get some news on game as well Zhou Cang coming in game as well called it on he in one dynasty warriors news posts i can t wait for this as well open world sound nice
Not sure how I feel about this change to open world. A lot of Dynasty Warriors' identity comes from having specific stages with specific objectives. Will need more info before jumping to any conclusions though.
I'm happy with the idea, and I'm a huge fan of warriors game, but the execution will be crucial to the quality of the game.
Well, we'll see how it pans out. Turns out the best genre for open world I think is JRPG. Which is surprising
@ShogunRok I agree, my favourite output from TK have been the straight up brawlers Fist of the North Star, One Piece Warriors 3, Gundam, DW6 etc rather than the strategy type games or RPG ones. Although they seem to review worse (as a reviewer easier to be sucked into DQH than play OPW3 for 6 hours straight) I prefer them loads as the single level structure usually between 20-40 minutes per level, fits perfectly into my limited game time.
I think it'll probably be open world but not with battles just happening all over the place. Rather, you'll ride around and maybe have little side quests to do but battles will only happen when you speak to a certain NPC. Then it'll take you though the usual pre-battle scenes and load you into a battle in a fenced off part of the world. There might be smaller skirmishes that happen randomly in the open world, like bandits or a scouting force of the enemy.
I think an exciting possibility is that they base their future licensed games on this engine so we get an open world One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 or Dragon Quest Heroes 3. That would be incredible, especially the OP one since DQ already has large open worlds in its games anyway.
@Matroska Get a JP PSN account, download the Toukiden 2 and DQH 2 demos. That's probably what you'll get.
