It's the breadth, isn't it? There's no other manufacturer on this planet who could go from PaRappa the Rapper to WipEout: Omega Collection to Horizon: Zero Dawn to Knack 2 to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy to Gran Turismo Sport to… Well, you get the idea. You may not enjoy every title in Sony's library, but there's so much breadth to it that chances are you'll find one or two releases you like. And that's why we think this trailer's got a point when it claims that the best games are on the PlayStation 4.
Would anyone like to argue?

Well they are, it's just that some of the best games are on XBOX and PC too but you can't expect Sony to advertise those systems can you
also their exclusives blow MS out of the water although i still think Nintendo has one of the best line of 1st party titles available
Well all Xbox has left is Forza and Gears really and both of those are also available on the PC so what's the point in owning an Xbox any more.
There are unquestionably great games on all platforms, but PlayStation has — and always will — speak to me the most.
It's why I do this job!
Hard to argue with from my perspective, but perspectives are subjective.
@get2sammyb for me PlayStation is the best place to play, it fits my needs perfectly although i still have a soft spot for Nintendo, the NES and SNES were huge parts of my childhood and i LOVE Zelda games too much to NOT buy a Nintendo System
but PlayStation is also very special to me. not only was the first PlayStation the first system i ever brought with my own money but the PlayStation family has given me some of my best gaming experiences, from the first PlayStation game i ever played (FFVII) i knew that system change the face of gaming and it did
If we are talking about 'console' exclusives (and therefore includes MS's - not that I think the fact they are on win10 PC's only (not all PCs) is a bad thing anyway but that's a separate topic). then the PS4 certainly has a few that I am looking forward to more than MS's. Horizon: ZD, Days Gone and Spider-Man appeal more than Scalebound, Dead Rising 4 and Crackdown 3 although I do prefer Forza to Gran Tourismo. However, MS has more overall that appeal as I don't really like Japanese games - I would much prefer Halo Wars, State of Decay, Sea of Thieves etc to all the Japanese games and can't get excited by remakes/remasters of games I could play now. Not saying Crash and Wipeout weren't fun 10years ago and won't have a nostalgic appeal but compared to 'new' games/experiences, they don't compare for me. You can't count 3rd party games as these are on all/most formats anyway. For the next year at least, the 'best' console to play these on maybe on the Pro though if it can offer better frame rates - not just visuals.
The TLDR is that for me the 'best' exclusives are likely to be on PS4 in the near future but I also have a lot of Xbox games I am looking forward to playing too so not concerned that a lot of Sony's are of no interest.
"Would anyone like to argue?"
Not me
More of a Nintendo fan but duh they need to say their own stuffs are the best
Imagine if they said the opposite..
@Octane It's Riiiiidddggeee Raacceeerrr.
I can safely that not even Konami at 2010 (Or was it 2011, the drunk one anyway!) was quite that bad. Wii Music was questionable but funny for reasons, That PS3 conference oh my God was actually painful to watch.
Does the PS4 have a giant enemy crab yet? Or Ridge Racer? Actually is RR still a thing?
Now Sony. All you need to do to convince me is the following:
More Ratchet and Clank
Bring back Sly Cooper
Bring back Jak and Daxter
Remake Spyro
Those 4 things will convince me but right now the only thing convincing me of the PS4...which is a dust gatherer...ew...is one R&C title, and the fact I have DOOM on here because I didn't have my PC at the time.
If I want to be as invested in the PS4 as I was back with the PS1/2, (not PS3 as I skipped a good 4 years of that early disaster), then you need to bring what made me a fan in the first place. Wringing me in with one thing and expecting me to stay with another doesn't work. You drop what brough someone into your store, they'll walk back out.
I'm only sat around because I have some degree of faith in you. Your online aint the best, your system hardware is missing features I would greatly appreciate, but you recovered from the PS3, and well done, granted PS is now pretty much the only thing making Sony money (Control your movies Sony, god), so I will wait this generation out.
But remember, I paid £400 for the PS3 when I did get it, and it had 3 R&C games on it, no J&D and no Sly at the time. You had better deliver on this. As @get2sammyb said, it may be the best games, but it isn't THE games, those ones that absolutely helped make you. You've still got the mature stuff, the stealthy, the Naughty Dog over the shoulder "They've done this for 6 games now" camera style stuff, but youre missing that one bit.
But youre only just getting God of War so who knows how long it'll take. The 3DS has the slogan "There's No Play Like It" because of it's handheld, cheaper, RPG machine status and games for many many kinds of people. The PS4 has the slogan "Greatness Awaits", because I hope it's coming, I really do, but there are few signs of it happening.
Nad I might as well dig up these old cherries for the nostalgic.
Why does PS3 Crash 2 not have analog support? Why did it take forever to get the Spyro Trilogy with the line "Finding a good copy of the PAL version" only to get a slowdown filled US version? ANd where the hell are the PSone Megaman titles at in the EU? And why does the PS Store on PS3 /crash/?
I recently used my PS3. shudders
But yeah, good games, still gotta hit those notes for me.
Made up with the line up, it feels good to again be on a winning side that keeps on giving. Nintendo and xbox would have reverted to type in Sonys position and gave us the odd game here and there taking in the dough. Sony haven't rested on their laurels with a truly outstanding list of games and that Wipeout announcement was the cherry on the top, where's fzero Nintendo?
Pro, 4k TV, Wipeout!
Wooooohoooooooooo.
Does Sony have this:
No? Then better luck next time!
@get2sammyb
"but PlayStation has — and always will — speak to me the most"
Everyone has a favorite. Even multiconsole gamers tend to gravitate toward one more than the others. And right now, I'm gravitating most toward PS4. That hasn't always been the case- for a while there it was Xbox One and before that, the 3DS and before that, the Wii U. It comes and goes in cycles- depending on which games are releasing for which systems.
I just wish gamers would, despite having favorites, also appreciate everything else on offer rather than clinging to one and marginalizing the rest. Because when a person only plays games on one platform, it's really easy to believe that platform is the best. And maybe it is, but it's hard to know that for sure without a frame of reference. A lot of games Sony fans think are good, Nintendo fans would call mediocre (Wipeout, Parappa, Knack). And a lot of games Nintendo fans think are good (Lego City Undercover, ZombiU, Hyrule Warriors) Sony fans would call mediocre. It takes a person who plays both to have a balanced perspective.
In the end, it doesn't matter which console has the best library of games. I think what matters is squeezing as much enjoyment out of each platform as you can. And if it's 90% Sony and 10% Nintendo/Microsoft, so be it. And if it's 90% Nintendo and 10% Sony/Microsoft, so be it. Everyone is different and everyone is going to have a different opinion on which platforms offer the most. Which is fine. As long as people understand that no single platform has everything to offer. #multiconsolegamermasterrace4life 😃
I do love the attention given to the likes of Crash, Wipeout and Parapa and will undoubtably be getting those games but..c'mon, give us some new instalments instead of remakes - or better yet, both! Hopefully this is just a case of testing the water
I prefer Nintendo's games, but Sony is unquestionably hitting it out of the park lately.
The thing with Sony is that they have both the AAA third party games, but unlike Xbox they do have third party Japanese developers, and obviously their first party studios which again, are Western and Japanese.
I am using my PS4 a lot recently, but I still need Nintendo games in my life.
If we're talking consoles then I completely agree with them, the competition doesn't even come close. The system could do with some more party games though, they're not ahead of the competition there.
@sinalefa Exactly. It's why, if possible, I always like to have the latest Nintendo and Sony consoles. I don't care about most of Sony's first party stuff, but I won't be playing games like Nioh, Persona 5, and Yakuza 0 anywhere else.
Sony definitely have the action/rpg games i'm most looking forward to. My X1 has pretty much become my racing game/gears console, and i occasionally fire up the wii u to pick away at twilight/skyward/tropical freeze. There's something out there for everyone!
Can't disagree.
Genuinely the only game that I would love to play over on X1 is Ori and the Blind Forest.
I'm so entrenched in the PlayStation ecosystem that it'll be always be my primary console of choice.
I would love to get the Switch down the line, but my ever growing backlog consists of 30+ PS4 & 100+ Vita games. There's not enough spare time to game anywhere else & PlayStation provides to all my gaming needs.
Sad thing is MS and Sony's exclusives have never intrigued me alot. I mean sure there is one or two that I liked or had an interest in like Yakuza, Project Gotham, etc. but the reason I go with Sony or MS is the third party titles like GTA, CoD, and others that won't come to a Nintendo system.
Now for exclusives it has always been Nintendo for me.
@get2sammyb "could go from PaRappa the Rapper to WipEout: Omega Collection to Horizon: Zero Dawn to Knack 2 to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy to Gran Turismo Sport to…"
You should have added Ni No Kuni 2 to that list, or Persona 5 or RE or Yakuza, something very Japanese. Well maybe RE isn't that Japanese.
Is that list you made all exclusive on purpose? I know that leaves out FFXV and maybe FF7 remake, how about KH3? I don't know, I weigh JRPG heavily in my console purchasing decisions. XCX saved Wii U for me last Christmas and had me put off PS4 until this Christmas. Almost perfect timing for FFXV.
I do like the variety of games on the PS4 and it will remain my main gaming machine. However I did buy a gaming PC a few weeks ago because sandbox survival games and MMO's are rarely found on the PS4.
@Fight_Teza_Fight
Ori is truly a masterpiece, but the Halo games are great too, and what's nice is you have access to all of them- all 5 main entries plus Reach and OSTD, not to mention Halo Wars and soon, Halo Wars 2. Gears is also a masterpiece, particularly Gears of War 4, and it's great that you can play all 4 main entries plus Judgement. And Forza Horizon (which is brilliant)- all 3 games are accessible.
I also think X1 has a number of other worthy exclusives, particularly when you account for the 360 games you can play such as Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, or the wide span of 7th gen games like Elder Scrolls Oblivion or the Mass Effect trilogy.
I think with Switch, it could actually provide more time to game because you don't have to be at home to play it. Or maybe play in another room while someone else is watching TV. You'll never have enough time to play every game, even on just PS4. But I don't think it's about plugging gaps in your gaming schedule, I think it's about expanding your selection so that you can cherry pick the absolute best the industry has to offer. You're not expanding the quantity of games you play, you're increasing the quality. So instead of playing these 2 masterpieces from PS4 and 2 good games from PS4 in a given time frame, you can play 4 masterpieces- 2 from PS4 and 2 from Switch.
@rjejr
How are you liking Final Fantasy XV? I think it's a masterpiece, truly right up there with Xenoblade Chronicles X, maybe even better (though not as awe-inspiring exploring the world, that's one thing Xenoblade X can't be topped in).
I don't agree, both PS and Xbox share the triple AAA tiles with each platform having there own exclusive games. To me Xbox is the winner here by far!! Most PS exclusive games "first party" have been in development since the announcement of the PS4 with still no release dates to some of them. At one point I was feeling bad for Sony because they had no games other than remakes when MS had heaps coming out mid year! All exclusives from MS have been released when they said it would.
PS4 Horizon looks great, Knack is boring, Uncharted 4 one that did actually come out looks good and Gran Turismo is no where, along with many others games like The Last Guardian!!
MS is also giving the players the ability to play there exclusives on PC with "play anywhere" not giving the games away as most PS fan boys refer to, but giving the gamers more options!! Having the option to play on Xbox, PC and surface is brilliant if you are lucky enough to have all three gives you the ability to play just about anywhere. "look at what Nintendo is doing" The games need to start coming out Sony no point showing a demos and than letting the gamers wait for 3 - 4 years to play them. The PS4 Pro was also rushed and didn't include a UHD Blu-ray disc drive and the VR looks really good but not enough to purchase it yet.
I'm a Nintendo fanboy and even I can agree with that. PS flash sales are on par with Steam sales any more so the only thing (IMO) that PC has on PS is better VR. Nintendo has their IPs but they were dethroned as king of consoles.
I aint going to argue. I've always been more of a PlayStation fan but if something is better, like I thought Xbox 360 and for a while the Wii, were last-gen, then I'll admit it. Right now if I were to compile a list of my most-wanted games, it's filled with PS4 games. Now if somebody doesn't care for the exclusives Sony puts out I can completely understand them feeling differently because most of the good third party games can be bought on any platform. When you factor those with the exclusives though, PS4 is definitely the console I'll be using the most over the next year and maybe beyond unless the Xbox Scorpio is the game-changer MS seems to be promising.
@JaxonH I'll let ya know in about a month.
Christmas morning we have - PS4 Slim bundled w/ U4, Skylanders Imaginators PS4 ed w/ Crash and Cortex, R&C, DQ Heroes and FFXV. A few ours later we'll get SFIV Ultra - my kid read too many bad things about V. And a SNES Mini which has 30 games most of which none of us have ever played. I'm poor and cheap, but I do Christmas right.
So in the meanwhile I just finsihed LCU which was great and abandoned PM:CS halfway thru b/c my old brian can't handle Snifit and Whifit a 2nd time. I barley got 4 out 7 the first time, I'll never gt all 7 plus the 3 bonus round questions. My brilliant 14 year old gave me the heads up. He's just about done, it was his birthday present after all. So I'm thinking about what to do the next 3 weeks. I still have Metroid Other M, Skyrim on PS3, Bioshock I'm a few hours into, same for B. Infinite. Oh, and Lego D on Wii U, but it freezes every hour so I'm thinking about rebuying it on PS4. Maybe a day after Christmas sale. Hoping for a PS4 download actually for $25.
I think that's everything. I've been waiting for TLG since Sammy started this site but I'm over it. If Zelda makes me wait 5 years I'll be over that to. I had TLG on a "to buy" list for early 2010 next to GoW3 and FFXIII.
@get2sammyb It's the way they always bring something new... it's amazing.
since the reimagining of the FF franchise to games like The last guardian... they have it all.
There is a reason why I prefer PlayStation, and that's due to the bevy of exclusives and IPs they have, making sure there's always something to play. Maybe not always "the best games", but there's some good range there.
That said, like others I'm more multi-system, or at least I'd like to be when I have cash to spare. I'd kill to play some Mario and Halo right now, and I've been chomping at the bit to try Forza and play Zelda's HD titles.
@BLP_Software I could not disagree more with you on both consoles. The PS3 had great games the PS4 has a insane list of great games. And i only own the PS4 for just over a year.
As so many have said, it's very subjective. But for me, yes - PlayStation is the platform with the most exclusive titles that get me excited. Funnily enough a buddy of mine that went for PS4 though this time around is missing his Xbox and keeps looking over enviously at the likes of Halo and GoW, etc, which don't interest me in the slightest.
For me the likes of The Last Guardian, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Persona 5, Bloodborne, No Man's Sky, Abzu, Yakuza, Shenmue 3, FF7 remake, Ni No Kuni, Spiderman and Horizon are more than worth the purchase. Apart from Ori and the Blind Forest and Cuphead, I can't really think of any Xbox-only titles that I'm particularly cut-up about. With Nintendo as my secondary platform choice I've got more than enough to play.
While I still think Nintendo has the better exclusives the PS4 is certainly improving.
I always buy a Nintendo system to play their games and then pick 1 of the other 2 systems. Last gen I went Wii & 360, this gen I'm going Wii U & PS4. I was going to hold out for the Switch.....but I'm tired of waiting. But I believe there are some awesome games for the XBone. I think the Forza series is the best video game racing series. Gears looks awesome and I've played every one up till the new one, and the new pirate game by Rare looks very interesting. Ultimately The Last Guardian pushed me off the fence and Horizon looks really good (just hope it plays good). Hopefully the PS4 holds up better then the PS2. I had to buy 3 of those because they died on me.
@rjejr We picked up Skylanders but for the Wii U. I should probably swap that out before it gets wrapped.
@dkxcalibur I was waiting for a PS4 to get Lego D, but then I remembered all my PS4 games are single player so I didn't want to buy another $60 controller just for Lego D so I got it on Wii U. And it crashes every hour. Every Lego game on Wii U crashes every hour. Well except Lego City Undercover, but that's single player, I think it only froze on me once in 38 hours. Skyalnders and Dsiney Infinity crash every hour but only half the time.
So I got Skylanders on PS4, ($38 at Target or the PS4 ed w/ Crash & Cortex was too good of a deal to pass up) so my kids will have to pony up for a DS4 if they want to play co-op. And I may even rebuy Lego D on PS4 b/c of the constant freezes on Wii U. Then never buy anything on Wii U ever again accept Zelda and maybe Yooka-Laylee if it makes use of the Gamepad w/ an over world map. I like maps. Or we'll get Zelda on Switch and YL on PS4 and let the Wii U collect dust. Then I'll really need another Dualshock, but maybe not 3. Not too many couch co-op or vs games w/ 3 or 4 player on PS4. We have PSASBR on PS3 and it never gets played, it's lame.
tl:dr - Yeah, do that.
