We first got our hands on Pyre, Supergiant's – creators of Bastion and Transistor – newest title a couple days after it was announced at PAX East earlier in the year. While the game was rather hard to describe on paper, it was absolutely breathtaking, as well as something that would lend itself really well to a multiplayer component.
Luckily, Supergiant appears to have felt the same way, as they showed off a new trailer for Pyre at PSX, which highlighted the multiplayer component that is to be included in the title. The multiplayer stems from the 'Rites' featured in the game, which is a weird version of basketball. We reported on this during PAX East, and while the Rites sound complicated on paper, they are incredibly easy to pick up and play in the moment.
Additionally, at the end of the trailer, Supergiant gave the game a confirmed 2017 release, so we shouldn't have to wait too long. We are incredibly excited for this game – Supergiant happens to be one of this writer's absolute favorite developers – and you can see why in the trailer.
Let us know in the comments section if you want to participate in the Rites as much as we do.

Oh damn, that looks nice.
combat looks influenced by transistor more than bastion, but we'll see.
Edit: That's a good thing.
Wait a second, on second look, there is literally a pyre in view, and what might be a ball, and they introduce the characters like they were teams.... is...this... some sort of weird sport thing?
oh, yes, if I read your article more closely I would have seen that. teaches me to post after midnight.
That animation and art direction looks wonderful. Looking forward to this and no doubt I'll be getting the soundtrack too, if their previous games are anything to go by...
