Hey, SEGA is on a bit of a roll these days isn't it? Well, relatively speaking. The Japanese publisher has announced that with the help of Deep Silver, it'll be bringing Valkyria Revolution West in spring 2017, and it'll be marching onto both PlayStation 4 and Vita. What's not to like?
For those out of the loop, Revolution ditches much of the strategic combat system featured in previous Valkyria games, replacing it with action-based battles that have a bit of a hack and slash feel to them, and as you'd expect, this was viewed as a controversial move by many. With the game out in Japan next month, we'll soon find out whether the change of direction was a smart idea.
Anyway, are you happy that it's coming West? Select your squad and plan your moves in the comments section below.

And Xbox one . It Will sell 5 copies
@Sanquine Bizarre decision to put it on Xbox to be honest, but good news for people who don't have a PlayStation I guess. Really, though, the audience for a game like this is on PlayStation.
This is fantastic news Day one sale here.
The battle system in Valkyria Chronicles is one of my favorites of all time. I'm pretty bummed they aren't bringing it back
@Sanquine @get2sammyb Yeah, jrpg is the worst type of game that you can sell on xbox system, from tales of vesperia (the best tales imho) to ff type 0 to ff xv, most xbox audience doesn't want jrpg.
I'm all over this when it hits the shores of blighty.
@wiiware @get2sammyb Indeed, the others also deserve valkyria , im playing valkyrie chronicles right now and boy that game is fantastic. As wiiware said i'm only scared that they are burning money with developing this for the X1. I mean this is not shifting numbers to cover any investment. However, this is not my decision to make
WHAT? No strategy gameplay? F THIS! Valkyria Chronicles is one of the BEST games I've played on any console (played on PS4). What a shame they ruined this awesome series ;(
Relieved they decided to bring this over. Day one buy. Love this series. Whilst the gameplay in one and two is sublime, it was the story and music that nailed it for me. Lets hope that continues here. Hopefully if this is successful they will finally localise vc 3 and release a proper srpg valkyria 4
Loved the first one but not sure about the change in the combat system...then again didant think I'd like Final Fantasy XVs New change In combat either..
Valkyria Chronicles is one of my favorite games of all time.
This imposter has stolen only the name.
Seems strange that they are entirely changing the combatsystem, since it's what define the gameseries and differentiate it from the rest (story aside)...
VC is great on PS4, much better than on the Vita. Stopped playing it at some point but will pick it up again, when I'm in the right mood ☺️
@get2sammyb Btw: the link to Valkyria revolution is broken
Good news. Really loving Chronicles, on the final chapter. But this doesn't look right. First, the tone looks way different. And why are they changing the tactical system? I don't know about this, bit disappointed.
@Furtin Thanks for pointing that out - it's fixed now. We had it linking to a page called Valkyria: Azure Revolution, which is the game's name in Japan, but we've since changed the page to Valkyria Revolution due to this localisation announcement.
I prefer action to strategy so I like the sound of this.
I tried the demo on the Japanese psn store last month (you had to register and get a code), I am truly unimpressed: the original is my favourite game from last gen. In this, the combat is all melee (musou style) with just some tactical elements and the art is more generically anime will give it a try if the reviews are positive enough. Would it be for demos alone, i wouldn't have played XV....
I'm still on the fence with this one. Visually it's looks good but the gameplay is so far off from the original one.:/ Hopefully, they'll release an English demo.
@Cowboysfan-22 @AFCC @Wazeddie22 @NoxAeturnus @Furtin
As I understand it, Valkyria Revolution is meant to be a spinoff entry of sorts. They're not changing the strategy of the main series, they're just making a different type of Valkyria game (who knows why, there's so many reasons developers do spinoffs- my guess is to draw more people into the fold with the action).
But ya, no worries. The core game hasn't changed, this just isn't part of the main line of Valkyria Chronicles games.
I'll be getting this for sure.......but I'm not getting it day one, I would rather throw my money at a VC 2 and 3 remastered, just saying Sega.
@JaxonH What do you mean the core game hasn't changed? Nothing about this matches the previous brand. The art direction is totally different. The core design is completely changed. This is a completely different game with the Valkyria name slapped on.
It's like taking Fire Emblem and making Skyrim out of it. It might still be a good game, who knows, but it sure isn't Valkyria Chronicles.
@WanderingBullet
I mean, the core game hasn't changed. Valkyria Revolution isn't the core game.
It's like releasing Hyule Warriors and complaining they changed the Zelda formula. No, they never touched the core Zelda formula- the core Zelda formula is the same as its always been. Hytule Warriors isn't a core Zelda game. Valkyria Revolution isn't a core Valkyria Chronicles game.
You wouldn't accuse Square Enix of changing the Final Fantasy formula when they released Dissidia, right? Or accuse Atlus of changing the Persona formula when they released Persona 4 Dancing All Night? So why would you accuse Sega of changing the formula for their spinoff?
@JaxonH Well, the gameplay from the first one is part of the reason why people liked it, so… For me its more about if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Or in this case change it completely.
Don't see why people would complained about Persona 4 Dancing All Night because it's suppose to be a dancing game. Hence the title.
Anyways, I'm hoping they release an English demo so I can decide whether to get this game or not.
@GraveLordXD The PSVita is digital only that is what i heard. And why do you think it will be released retail for the Xbox when it wont for the PS4......
I'll pass on this one, I really dislike that musou style hack n slash combat especially when it's a changed system from turn based/strategy. I got super bored playing Dragon Quest Heroes.
