We're pretty excited for Playtonic's 3D platformer revival here at Push Square. One of our American correspondents, Mitch Vogel, recently went hands-on with Yooka-Laylee at PSX, and had a grand old time. It's good news, then, to hear that the game will be released for the PlayStation 4 on 11th April. The announcement comes at the end of the latest trailer, which showcases an all-new environment: Capital Cashino. Take a look in the embedded video.
Pre-ordering the game will give you access to the Toybox demo previously only available to Kickstarter backers via Steam. This demo features an open area made up of basic geometry and gives you a general gist of how the game plays.
What do you think of Capital Cashino? Will you be buddying up in Yooka-Laylee next April? Don't go too batty in the comments section below.

I'm really looking forward to this. I'm actually in the mood for it now.
This...Crash, Sonic Mania, Persona 5, Horizon, Mass Effect and South Park all potentially in the first half of next year! I feel like 2017 might be a good year for gaming
@get2sammyb Backed the now deceased version, so debating even bothering at this point.
@BLP_Software Well, they're giving out refunds, aren't they? Will still be the same game, so if you're excited for it, I'd just get it on another platform.
@get2sammyb @BLP_Software From what I read of their backer update, it seems like they're going to make it so that people who wanted the Wii U version will be able to swap for another platform. They've already said they're in talks regarding a Switch version too, so presumably you'll be able to move to that as well.
I'm really amped for this - I don't know if I will preorder it though, if that toybox demo is based around an old build I will end up worrying about the quality of the finished game (Happened with FF15..)
If anyone tries the demo let me know how it is?
Will this have a physical copy?
@Tsurii Developers have already said you can pick another version or get a refund, so nothing to worry about for backers of the Wii U version. Other than that they don't get to play the game on the Wii U. Sucks for them, eh?
@ztpayne7 Yep, you can preorder digital or physical Edit: Box art!
I am loving the N64 platform era vibe from this so may just jump in next year, finances depending.

No ones promised anything but it feels off especially after they say the main studio is focusing on that one platform. And they said talks about Switch, not that its happening.
Im bummed out more than usual because tthis is not only the absolute final nail but it also knocks crowdfunding for Nintendo fans entirely. Which means unless a nice publisher wants to step in..Im screwed.
And it all started with Mighty No. 9
@BLP_Software I dunno. It's disappointing, but if you can move to another platform, it doesn't really sound like the end of the world. While I know it's a bit crap, I think it probably does make sense for them to move their attention to other platforms. Wii U is done, sadly.
Looks ace, we need more 3D platformers so I'll be supporting this.
No developer is going to work on a game for this long and only just now discover "technical issues" with the Wii U version. The only reason they can't also confirm a Switch release at the same time is likely because of Nintendo's gag order on major Switch announcements before the Direct.
I'll get it on Switch unless that version's release date is too far removed from the other versions. I really want this on a portable.
Saw the announcement about the release date on Twitter this morning. I was all "Well, I usually don't pre-order games, but I'm going to make an exception for this one to get the toybox." Then I saw the box art pic and quickly realized no Wii U in the pic. And I'm still in a state of shock 3 hours later.
I'll likely play this on PS4, but they aren't getting nay money from me now. My library has PS4 games, so I'll get it there. Maybe a Gamefly trial or Redbox. Or buy it used somewhere just so I don't buy it from them.
I woudlnt 'be so mad if Wii U owners got a heads up, but just back in June they spent more time talking about the Wii U version than any other. No hint of issues at all.

@BLP_Software @rjejr To be honest, i have a feeling the reason they cancelled the wii u version is due to performance. The exact same thing happened to Project Cars as well. It may be disappointing, and it certainly should've been announced much sooner, but at the very least they're being honest that the game would perform sub-par on wiiu, and are canceling instead of putting out something that would anger people getting a lesser product. I have a very strong feeling the same will happen to the Bloodstained wii u version as well.
Psn preorder is live for... 40 euros... Is is just me or it is somewhat expensive? I expected like 20 euros or something.
