These high-profile Kickstarter games have been a bit of a disaster, haven't they? We mean, first there was Mighty No. 9, which is currently bathing in the PlayStation Store's bargain bin juice. Then there was Shenmue III, which is still relying on Photoshopped images of protagonist Ryo Hazuki face. And finally there was Bloodstained, the one that everyone forgot about.
There's good news, though: Castlevania king Koji Igarashi has released… Like, 30 seconds of gameplay. The web is divided on this one: some think that the art style is amazing, others think that it's putrid. We're afraid that we fall into the latter camp, but at least progress on the project is being made. What do you think of it?

Wow, a meaty update there.
Omg that's a disgrace, like a first year university tech demo. Some kickstarters have been brilliant like Rogue Legacy and Elite, but I don't even check the site anymore since the debacle I've had post pledging on a couple. Its good being involved directly especially your first donation / investment / payment but rubbish like that 20 second video really freaks me out and reminds us all why crowd funding is on the decline.
Only backed shenmue and battalion 1944 or whatever its called. Hopeful for both. This though looks whack.
It does remind me of MN9, I backed that one but not this one. I actually haven't backed anything in ages, not even Shenmue 3 or Yooka Laylee. Still getting both when they release. If Shenmue releases someday, of course.
Why so negative? Unlike mn9, bloodstained ks has been clear from the beginning about everything, the only problem is the game has been delayed to 2018.
Ks has been great to me, bloodstained, hyper light drifter and shantae hgh is a great game that only exist because ks.
And no, I backed bloodstained and I'm not forgetting it.
why does it take 3-4 years to make a 2D side-scroller game like this?
The graphics don't look super amazing or anything.
they used to crank these type of games out every week on PS1-PS2.
Now on PS4, they take 4 years and 5-6 million bucks to make a single 2D castlevania type game. So if this game was in a full 3D environment, it would take a full decade and cost twice as much.
I don't back kick-starter projects directly myself, but will pick up the game if its any good. Im still hopeful about this one and yooka-laylee looks absolutely brilliant.
I didnt really object to the art style in this video but it was a very unexciting trailer. Hopefully more will be shown soon
@portalplayer2 Making game, 2D or 3D, is hard, and because 2D game don't sell as well as call of duty/assassin creed, the game maker doesn't have the budget to pay 500 people working on it. Shantae half genie hero need about 3 year, same with hyper light drifter, I think the time needed to make a good 2D games is about 3 years.
@hadlee73 Where have you been, iga already previewed the game graphics from a long time ago, about 1 month after the kickstarter is funded. Thats 1 year ago.
@Rob_230 This video is not a trailer, it's development update.
Seriously I don't understand where's the "high-profile Kickstarter games have been a bit of a disaster" come from. Mn9 yes, but thats ignoring the successfull one like hyper light drifter (84 meta), shantae half genie hero (82), yooka laylee, and this game, which nearly everybody like in the e3 2016 preview (including kinda funny colin moriarty, and that guy usually hate everything).

Hyper Light Drifter was high profile and I think we can all agree that turned out to be anything but a disaster. Yooka-Laylee is another that is high profile that is looking really impressive. Plenty to be positive about on the crowd funding scene. But there are never any guarantees just like with any other game.
This is why I don't pre-order games. Not saying it'll be crap when it finally drops, but you don't buy promises, only finished product.
@DiddyWahDiddy I just backed it because i like the artstyle and the game looked like fun.
@ShogunRok Look on the kickstarter page they make a lot of these updates.
