Did you think today's free God of War song was a bit of an anticlimax after the community worked hard to get the trailer up to 15 million views? Well, it turns out there was a secret hidden in the MP3. The description for the audio file states that the music is an "introduction to Kratos and Atreus". But who's the latter? Director Cory Barlog has confirmed that it's the name of the bearded hero's kid.
But what do we know about Atreus in Greek mythology? A bit of casual Googling kicks up some interesting anecdotes, like the fact that he was exiled by his father for murdering his half-brother. Could some deeper family dynamics play out in the plot of the new game? We'll have to wait and see, but it's nice to have a little more information to work with.

Wow, what a dark story, just seen a summary of the brothers story, don't know how much of this they can refer to!! lol!! http://www.shmoop.com/atreus-and-thyestes/summary.html
This takes my Dad can beat up your Dad to a whole nother level.
This is kinda disappointing. I thought they were going to get into Norse Mythology proper and have his son be Ullr or Tyr. David Houghton wrote a great piece for gamesradar on the possible Norse legends the son may be associated with and they sounded pretty cool. Norse mythology as a whole is rarely used as a source material despite it's rich content. Atreus sounds nice and dark but I was really looking forward to raising a Norse legend. Ah well, just have to wait and see
