Like the glistening trinkets that will undoubtedly populate its sandbox levels, Yooka-Laylee has gone gold. The game – which isn't actually set to release until 11th April – is finished and heading off to the ol' manufacturing plant as we speak, where it will be printed onto blank Blu-ray discs and uploaded to the PlayStation Store ready for you to play.
We assume that development's finished extra early in order to account for the complications of Kickstarter, where backers will select which system they want to play the game on and so forth. In fact, there's more information on that through here.
You've got to give credit to developer Playtonic here, though; in the wake of awful Kickstarter campaigns like the Mighty No. 9, the UK studio's just got on with things and delivered exactly what it promised. And before you bring up the Wii U cancellation, we reckon that the dev's made the best of a bad situation there to be fair.

Can't wait!
Woohoo!!
Glad to hear it's all done now. I'm still not sure which system I'll pick this up for but I'm definitely getting it as soon as I get home for summer break.
Excellent news. Let's hope it holds up to expectation because it looks terrific.
One of my most anticipated games of the year BUT I think I'll (try my best to!) hold off and wait to see if they implement HDR support. I'll still get it in the end if they don't, but it would be a bummer to play through it only for it to get an update a couple of months after release.

@get2sammyb - the above is in quote tags but just looks like I wrote it. Not sure if it's supposed to work like that
@kyleforrester87 That looks too professional to be anything you would write.
I've got an eye on this game. Always love me a good platformer.
@get2sammyb Im gonna side with @rjejr here. Team17 just finished YookaLaylee. Dunno what the hell playtonic has been doing with my money given a Switch verson is still "Should" and "Looking into".
But good to see its gone gold. Just not for many who backed it.
@DerMeister wot u sayin m8?
@kyleforrester87 U no wat
cam aht me brah
@BLP_Software this is a PlayStation site. Perhaps you should switch allegiances?
@hi_drnick already did. It was one of fhe few things i was left holding out on. That and a good lineup
What a year to be alive! Rare is back!
Yooka Laylee looks like its going to be a brilliant platformer & stuffed with content form what i've seen, definitely going to get the physical version.
@BLP_Software "a Switch verson is still "Should" and "Looking into"."
Well it's looking a little more confirmed now, but still no date, which as far as I'm concerned means not confirmed, just more likely than before.

And feel free to tell that other person you are talking about games coming out on multiple platforms on a gaming site, no harm in that. No matter what the people who work here say. W/o us gamers all they would have is a defunct site like PureXbox. Gaymz iz gaymz. If they only want us to talk about Sony stuff then they should only talk about Sony EXCLUSIVES. Well console/handheld exclusives, everything is on PC these days, there'd be nothing left. Simple easy solution. Not that it's ever stopped me from talking about Zelda on every single H:ZD article, they're practically the same game. I think HZD looks better though, my kids lean toward Zelda graphics, they like color.
@rjejr At least they didnt go mighty no 9 pr bad on us.
Im honestly more bitter because thanks for killing my only realistic form of funding for my tsrget audience Playtonic. Now i have to talk to a publisher, earn 10% or so and lose creative freedom.
This looks very promising, but the characters look very generic and uninspired imho.
Really looking forward to this. The artstyle and music / sounds effects remind me so much of the good old days of the Banjo games. If it plays as well as it looks and sounds then we're in for a treat 🙂.
