We've played Horizon: Zero Dawn, and let us be clear: you can practically feel money pouring out of the screen. Sony's not been shy in stating that Guerrilla Games' open world adventure is one of its highest budget projects to date, but the platform holder won't be slyly recouping those costs by incorporating bothersome microtransactions.
Writing on Twitter, the developer has confirmed that there'll be no mini-payments in the game. That's refreshing because it must be tempting for publishers to incorporate temporary XP boosters and other such nonsense in their role-playing releases these days.
Of course, this doesn't rule out DLC entirely; we know that there'll be different costumes and gear for Aloy to equip, for example, and we honestly wouldn't be surprised if a Season Pass promising additional quests got announced at some point nearer to release. But there will be no microtransactions specifically, which is good news.

Just over 5 weeks to go!! Can't wait! Glad there are no Micro-transactions but can't see how they could implement them in any meaningful way - in a way that would even make sense or stand a chance of selling.
I am against Micro-transactions in AAA games but I don't have too many issues with purely cosmetic items as long as it doesn't detract from in-game cosmetics. Games like CoD make earning the weapon Camo's almost pointless now as the ones you can earn look better anyway. Earning Gold meant something.
Selling gear with better stats is wrong, selling gear with similar stats is pointless if you can acquire it in game and can't equip higher level gear untill you reach that point, and selling gear with no stats will end up not being used anyway. XP boosters or things like that take away from an experience.
Its difficult to know whether DLC is wanted/needed in the game until I have played through everything. If anything, I can see a Witcher 3 type scenario.
This is great news!
Microtransactions seem to be a major afflication for our friends in the Xbox world, and they do seem to be slowly filtering into the PSN store too.
Well done SONY & Guerrilla, I'm very much looking forward to getting this one.
Cool, although I didn't really ever worry about that. Actually it seems like very few games include microtransactions.. I might be wrong but in my head it feels like less than 10% of what I play include them. I may just be good at ignoring them though.
I'll be getting this, but my expectations are in check. The Killzone games were hardly amazing.
It's sad that this is something that needs confirming
I'm surprised there's no promotional stuff, like Mt dew did with titanfall 2. It's certainly not too late for that, maybe some codes for timed double xp or extra crafting materials?
I didn't even expect them. Was I supposed to? It's kinda sad if we're at the point where a high budget $60 priced open world console RPG not having any content (besides the understandable DLC) behind the paywall is newsworthy.
I wouldn't even thought it needed microtransactions, but hey it's nice to know.
I hope there will be story dlc / expansion like the witcher 3.
You mean I can't spend 20 quid on a hat collection like in The Last Of Us. Massive shame there then. Thank Grimlock.
Cool, hopefully Guerrilla can continue to be like CD Project and reap the rewards.
Yay no microrubbish! Well done Guerilla/Sony this is good. Very good!
Thank goodness. This piecemeal business model shouldn't have a place in titles like this. How sad is it if an open world has microtranactions? You're supposed to be brimming with content game!
@RedMageLanakyn Did that actually help Titanfall 2 though? I didnt even know they did that.
@3Above It probably helped a bit, not sure if it was enough to compensate for the money spent marketing it. I was just glad I knew people that drink it so I got about 20 codes for double xp! I just know that this game has a lot of competition for March and I really haven't seen anything in terms of promotional material outside of a 2 second spot in a commercial. Seems like they would ramp things up by this point.
Before Horizon was announced there was a job ad looking for someone who had experience with microtransactions at Guerrilla Games. It might well be that it could have been for Rigs instead, or a ditched MP mode for Horizon. Either way it's good news. Also Gravity Rush 2 DOESN'T have a day one patch, what is this wizardry?!
Online stuff well down the road is fine to keep servers open. But day 1 Microtransactions and DLC are plain BS.
This game is one of the main reasons I bought a Pro. I hope it lives up to the hype...
Good, that's a nice bucking of trends, and it seems to be locked to mobile/third party efforts at this time, thankfully. Its not a wise business model on dedicated gaming hardware.
On that note, I kinda feel Sony made those Zelda killer comments hoping...you know, that Zelda wouldn't launch nearby so it could get a sales headstart and not have to directly compete. Welp, now they get to prove it. With a massively increased install base.
Then again I don't see the comparison. They are both open-air RPG based games. So? Both going for different things. Horizon feels far more...do I want to say science fiction? That feels like it. Zelda is Zelda.
Cmon Sony, start really kicking the small guys out.
They better go back and fix that, that's not our this generation rolls.
More good news. I'm slowly warming to this game
Sad that in this day and age something like that needs a confirmation. Regardless, good news overall! If they do plan a story DLC I hope they go down the same path as The Witcher 3 DLCs both in terms of quality and quantity. Not to mention price it fairly.
This needs to be applauded. I am glad micro transactions are not going to be part of the game.
I may get the DLC if I really enjoy the game. I do not buy season passes as I do not want to part with my cash without knowing what I will get in return. I have been burnt before.
