And there we have it: Game of the Year 2016 is done and dusted. As is the case every year, we pulled our entire team together to determine our top PlayStation title of the past 12 months, and while everyone had their own personal favourites, we settled upon a Top Ten that reflects the sentiment of every single one of our staffers.
Unlike last year's trifecta of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, Bloodborne, and Rocket League, the standouts were less obvious this time. But Uncharted 4: A Thief's End rocketed to the top due to securing a spot on practically everyone's personal list, while Inside and Overwatch broke away from the crowd fairly easily as well. The rest of the lineup was much tighter.
But it was only really Dark Souls III that missed out, getting pipped out of the tenth place spot by Titanfall 2. Dragon Quest Builders and Hyper Light Drifter weren't too far behind, but we reckon that this selection best reflects the cream of the crop on Sony's consoles in 2016. Here's a round-up of the full Top Ten in case you missed it.
Game of the Year 2016
- Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
- Inside
- Overwatch
- Final Fantasy XV
- Dishonored 2
- The Last Guardian
- The Witness
- DOOM
- Ratchet & Clank
- Titanfall 2

well after running out of HDD space i didn't get many games this year but NEARLY all the games i did get are in this top 10
still a good list
Maybe the yearly roundup should be Top 25.
That way all the top games could get a nod and yet 25 would still be somewhat exclusive.
I'm calling it. Knack 2. GOTY 2017. The game to rule all games.
I am just missing 3 of these games. My personal favourite not on this list is Project Diva X.
#1 and #2 were what I voted. So I agree.
I've only played 3 of the games in the top 10, with TF2 in my backlog. 2016 was a tough year to game.
Pretty good list. Sad to see Xcom 2 isn't there though. If any strategy game on consoles would ever make the top 10 that would most certainly be it.
Great list my only differences would be that I'd swap Overwatch for BF1 and I think The Division was a great new IP from much derided Ubisoft , I'd have to ditch Ratchet & Clank for that. Just my opinion though.
of this list, i bought UC4, TLG, R&C and TF2. i may pick up witness at some point in the future, when it hits a price i'm comfortable with, as it may be a love it or hate it type of game for me. i hated everything about overwatch.. and i play a lot of FPS games. doom's multiplayer beta, and its first two demo levels did absolutely nothing to sell it to me. rather than old school nostalgia, it just felt horribly clunky to me.
my list would be:
Uncharted 4 / Ratchet & Clank / The Division / The Last Guardian / Call of Duty Infinite Warfare /Titanfall 2
Best Remaster: Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered
Best Multiplayer: Battlefield 1
Best Indie: Lara Croft Go (it's only one i bought all year)
Interesting line up. I am still in two minds about 2016 and gaming.
I would have expected or hoped VR to have more of an impact on games this year. In fact, VR has been largely ignored in the last month or so.
I felt 2016 had a great first half, a so so second half for releases (speaking purely personally of games I liked). I wonder how the second half of 2016 is going to affect publishers.
Nice list. I personally played 5 og these. Still need to play "inside" and "the last guardian"
I think this is a good list. Still some great games that didn't make the cut, like Dark Souls III, Battlefield 1, and Watch Dogs 2.
Good list. In my opinion Titianfall 2 should be on 3rd place while Overwatch should come at 10.
I don't really feel this top ten list. A bunch of them are games that I probably wouldn't play if they were PS+ freebies (Titanfall 2, Overwatch, Doom, etc...) A few of them are pretty good games (like Final Fantasy XV), but the PS4 had such an amazing selection of titles in 2016, its sad that these are what made it to the top ten.
Really struggle to see the fuss about Inside. I played it for 3 or so sittings and was no captivated at all, I think maybe my expectations were waaay too high. What am I missing?
