It's worth reiterating that Marvel's approach to games is changing. Gone are the days where it would farm its licenses out to the highest bidder and demand regular movie tie-ins; it's taken a long, hard look at the Batman: Arkham titles and decided to do something different. And that all starts with Spider-Man, the Insomniac Games title in development exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
Speaking with IGN at DICE 2017, Marvel Games chief Bill Rosemann revealed a little more about the company's vision, stressing that licensed titles won't need to be canon – "We want [our development partners] to have passion, we want them to put their stamp on the games" – and that it's taking each project extremely seriously.
"We want every game to be game of the year," he revealed. "So we're focusing on each game at a time. We know there are certain characters people are really hungry for, [but] right now we're just going to focus on getting the [projects we've announced] right." The obligatory Spider-Man demo at E3 2017 is going to be good, eh?

@DLB3 I can wait for E3, personally.
I'd scoff at this, but after the Arkham series, I'll restrain my skepticism. An open-world Spiderman with side-quests, tight combat, and responsive web slinging would be exciting for sure.
I like that Marvel is giving Insomniac more freedom with development.
I hope Insomniac does a good job.
Spider-Man is one of the games I am excited to see. I also think they were referring to the Avengers (Crystal Dynamix) too - not just Spider-Man. The initial reveal of this though looked good and combat reminded me of Arkham games but as much as I liked the look of it, I still wasn't grabbed like I was when I saw Arkham Asylum, City or even Knight. I admit we haven't really seen a lot yet though.
God, I can't wait to see more of this. I really hope it's as good or better than Spider-Man 2, and the fact that Insomniac is doing it could very well make it so.
@DLB3 Haha, I was just joking about how busy it is during E3 really.
Not made by Activision this time so it has a chance.
Judging from the devs they have working on the new titles, the artistic freedom they seem to be affording them (non-canon stories) and the fact that the little we've seen of Spiderman since its announcement suggests it isn't being rushed, we could indeed be in for a batch of incredibly promising titles. As a Marvel fan I'm really looking forward to seeing more of what's to come.
My spider sense is tingling
If they hit the quality level of the Arkham titles, this is gonna be awesome! Spiderman is my favorite super.
If there's anyone I'd wanna see make a super hero game, it would be those guys who made Second Son (Sucker Punch I think?), that was a great game and so was First Light.
Hyped for this game! Hopefully we can see more in the coming months!
Can't wait for this game
@Xaessya Activision only published the games but the last few were made by Beenox. Treyarch have also made Spider-Man games too and arguably the best Spider-Man game to date - Spider-Man 2.
I still don't like the 'white' on the Spider-Man costume. Even if they opted for Black, its much larger than the 'normal' costume so would differentiate from that but white seems wrong to me...
I can't to see more of this game the last Spider-Man game I like was web of shadows
Cautiously optimistic. Would love this to be great but I'll wait for the reviews.
If it is confirmed for defo for this year then I will get more excited as I love Spidey games but if a 2018 release then I will wait closer to the time to get excited.
@DLB3 but why Sony? M$ has the best exclusives...lmao.
Anyway, I'm ready for a good spidey game!!
@renankj as long as it's not the quality of the Arkham Origins titles it should be fine
@AFCC Nintendo has the best and most exclusives.
Playstation has .hack//
Xbox is a dude bro console.
@Gold_Ranger best and most...I loled hard ahah
If Insomniac do for Spiderman what Rocksteady did for Batman then I'm all over this!
@Gold_Ranger what's that got to do with the article?
Hopefully the swinging is fluid and natural, the fighting tight and clever. If I was Spidermans enemies I would move to a place with really low buildings, like a secure oap bungalow area. Hopefully that scenarios included too.
@themcnoisy
Somewhere in Kansas would do nicely.
@FullbringIchigo Poor Origins, hehe. It was a good game, I liked it... Sure wasn't as good as Asylum and City, but it wasn't a bad game if you didn't compare it to the others, haha. Although I agree with you, hopefully it's as good or better than Asylum/City/Knight (I mention Knight based on videos, I still need to play it, hehe).
Least they can do is get the damn suit right.
There's no denying it should be brilliant, here's hoping we haven't got to wait too long for it.
