As is fashionable these days, developers like to proudly announce the point at which their games are finished and ready to be distributed, so we're used to seeing studios take to social media platforms and exclaim that their projects have gone gold. It's NieR: Automata's turn today, it seems.
Posting on Twitter, producer Yosuke Saito confirms that the action role-playing release has indeed gone gold, meaning that it's primed and ready for its Japanese launch later this month. Funnily enough, Saito reveals that the game has actually been done for a while - it was just never announced. Still, we suppose it's nice to know that things are going according to plan.
Automata's due out in early March here in the West, but are you excited for it? Cut through the comments section below.

Excited ?
I didn't even know it existed until recently.
After I finish Zelda either Nier or Horizon will be next up... I really liked the demo and it's been ages since I last played a game like it.
I would be more excited if it wasn't over £40 to buy! The lack of supply isn't gonna help these PS exclusive games sell well, even with good reviews
It looks great, but with Zelda releasing in March and Persona releasing in April... I'm just not going to have time for this. Not anytime soon.
I'm excited for it and I loved the demo, which was extremely smart on their part because it is really what built up it's hype.. BUT it comes out what..a week?..after Horizon so it'll have to wait for me. Also the end of March has the Kingdom Hearts remaster which will be my next game to buy. I'll get to Nier eventually, perhaps it'll be a little lower in price by then too.
Yes, I really like the demo, reminds me of bayonetta 2. Still have gravity rush 2 and yakuza 0 on the backlog though.
Hype, cant wait for this one.
@Ralizah Yeah, and Horizon coming at the end of February/start of March for some countries. Not sure the release date is the best.
Demo was really fun, so I can't wait for this.
I'll be playing Horizon Zero Dawn and Zelda at that time so this game may have to take the backseat for a while.
@Jake3103 Indeed. Within a two week span, we're getting Nintendo's most ambitious game of all time, a big new first-party Sony IP, a new console launch... and this. I could see Nier: Automata getting lost in the noise, and considering how many knocks Platinum Games has taken lately, I REALLY don't want to see this sell poorly.
I prefer to support niche titles rather than hits with my pre-order money when I know I'll play both eventually, so I'll be playing NieR while everyone else is playing Horizon it looks like.
I am way more amped for this than Horizon. I dono but there is something about Horizon that is making me cautious. It feels like it's going to turn into another open world tower grind etc. I hope I am wrong but I guess I am not as excited as everyone else. Nier on the other hand is fresh, smooth and a delight to play.
@zimbogamer Yeah, I'll take this over Horizon any day. Not that Horizon looks bad.. Just judging them on personality and character alone Nier wins hands down for me.
(I plan to own both!)
I'll be getting this, but probably not at launch, too many other games I need to play atm, good time for gaming!
Horizon, nioh, resident evil and now this in such a short time. This is gonna be a great year...I just might not get a lot of stuff around the house done...😂
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Zelda. It's their biggest and most ambitious game of all time. They've never made anything like it.
Had mine pretty ordered a long time ago, I cannot wait to play this game and show my support for Sony and Platinum Games.
It's going to be a squeeze though, I hope to platinum Bioshock 2 this weekend before Nioh arrives on Monday (good old Shopto dispatched it on Friday!), got 3 weeks to focus on that before Horizon and then onto Nier.....got some early finishes at work and some late nights ahead of me
