Outside of a remastered compilation, Assassin's Creed remained in the Animus last year, giving Ubisoft a little more time to bring the brand back with a bang after a bit of oversaturation in the years prior. And 2017 will supposedly see the release of Empires, an Egyptian outing that promises to restore the series' reputation.
Following a few leaks last year, a new screenshot appears to have spilled online. This first popped up on Reddit, and while it isn't conclusive, it definitely shows an Egyptian-esque warrior with an Assassin branded shield on his back, sandals, and a sword. We'd probably have preferred a female protagonist for this one, but we understand that ladies are difficult to animate.
Anyway, we're hyped for this. Egypt has been an underserved setting in video games, and there's great potential for a vast desert map populated with pyramids, temples, and much more. Secretly shivving pharaohs while they gorge on wine and grapes is going to be glorious; we'd expect this one to be announced in the run-up to E3 2017.

Hmm assassin creed x prince of Persia? (I can only dream...)
In my head this game will be amazing. But I'm projecting my own imagination of what it could be onto it, so I suspect I'll be disappointed when it's announced.
I'd love this to be great, but it just feels like Assassin's Creed hasn't been about actual assassinations since AC2, so I'm skeptical to say the least.
@get2sammyb if they return to the combat system from ACIV it could be amazing
Prince of Persia easter egg or no buy.
I hope the combat gets more complex, it's way too simple. Also, they should bring more variety to the missions. That said, I'm a fan of AC, I wish Ubi to make a great comeback with the series.
It could be in the most amazing, well suited place on Earth, it'll still be the same stale Assassin's Creed.
Too bad we wont get that Egyptian set Sly Cooper game that was teased at the end of Thieves in Time
@get2sammyb I'm with you. I always found ancient Egypt to be an interesting time period and this could be on to something really fun...but it could just as easily be a let down. I guess we'll find out soon enough!
A remake of exhumed would be nice. That was a great fps with an Egyptian setting. (Probably hasn't aged well..)
You know what Ubisoft has given more time to bring back with a bang Prince of Persia
Give assassins creed a much longer break
I was starting to lose interest in the series but I would very much be interested in an episode set in ancient Egypt. And as a few of you have mentioned, it would be nice to see a return of Prince of Persia. I thoroughly enjoyed Forgotten Sands.
Looking forward to this. It is supposedly by the same team that made Black Flag, which is a favorite entry of mine.
Why prefer one gender over another for a game like this? We got Evie in Syndicate, and it literally made no difference in the gameplay. Gender/sexual preference doesn't matter as long as they're not constantly forcing an agenda down our throats just to appease certain groups (BIOWARE cough cough)
Is that POP or assassins? I don't like it any way it looks worse
What can a assassin do there? I hoped they go to the arabic country like suria or even Iran but it looks like they not going to do that
