The Last Guardian is comfortably one of the PlayStation 4's very best games, and now it's much more affordable in the United States. Sony's confirmed to GameSpot that it's cut the price of the puzzle platformer from $59.99 to $39.99, meaning that you'll now be able to enjoy one of the more original titles in eons for a very tempting $20 less.
There's no word on this permanent price drop extending its wings overseas, but the game's already seen significant discounts in the UK, so you should be able to snag it for a decent price if you shop around. And buy it you should, as we described the game as a "modern masterpiece" in our 9/10 review last year. Seriously, folks – it's so good!

Right, I'll wait and buy this only on sale for $10 or less.
Yeah, I was already never buying another game at full retail ever again as FFXV has been $30 everywhere only 2 months after release, but this seals the deal, it's an exclusive.
I'll also argue it should have been $40 from the start, probably little replay value and no online, it's an indie at a AAA price. But I haven't played it yet so I don't know. I was planing on going to my library to see if they had it in stock yet, figured I could beat it in a week if I tried.
@rjejr It is not an indie game. The production values are insane!
@rjejr No online lol what? What's online got to do with the price of fish.
The price was cut in South America too, at least in Brazil, as far as I can tell. I believe it was R$199.99 at launch and now it's R$149.99.
Just 2 months later. I will keep waiting on other games to drop then. For this one I would pay $20 though.

Well obviously it's not an indie game, I know who made it, but it's a niche game. Would you all be happy if I went back and changed "indie" to "niche"? I'm pretty sure for a lot of gamers those 2 words are interchangeable.
Games that sell for $60, if anything really does anymore - FIFA ,Madden, Destiny, COD - and the reason they do, online. And not just any old online, online NOW. You can't wait 6 months to buy any of those games b/c everybody will be much better than you. And you can't wait a year to buy any of those games b/c they are all released annually w/ new games. It's not just a matter of "they have online" it's the implications of what that means. Since we're on a gaming website I assumed everybody would know that and I wouldn't need to spell it out.
There was no reason to buy TLG at launch, same week as FFXV. JRPG may be "niche", but it's a much bigger niche than TLG. People want to play FFXV before all of the spoilers get out that people are putting everywhere on social media. The amount of spoilers for TLG are going to be a lot less and easier to avoid. So there's no need to rush out and play it. No spoilers, no online compettion, and a whole lot of other better well known games coming out the same time as TLG. There was just really no reason to spend $60 on TLG right before the holidays. Maybe in the spring or summer, bubt even then.
Is TLG really that much more of a non-indie non-niche game than R&C? R&C launched at $40 in the spring. Precedent had been set. Know your market, know your competition, know what people are willing to spend. It looked like $40 to me. Call it niche, indie or new experimental IP, it didn't look like FIFA, Madden, COD or Destiny, and those are really the only games that are going to sell well at $60 over the holidays.
Here in the UK I got an email from PSN yesterday, which had stuff like the new deal of the week etc but it also showed The Last Guardian for £29.99. Maybe its now discounted over here too.
@rjejr Actually, $60 is the standard price for AAAs, online or otherwise. Also, I don't see JRPGs or Action/Platformers as niche, they're genres with an audience, they'd be niche if they barely sold, but had a dedicated community. Although I agree that Last Guardian is not anywhere as popular as, say, Uncharted or FIFA, but then if it is anything like Ico, this is a very creative and unique game that aims at the gamer's emotions instead of becoming mainstream.
The game was overpriced to begin with. Will pick this one up for 5 bucks during the next Black Friday sale.
@rjejr I own both TLG and R&C. TLG was the first game I finished on the PS4. TLG has a lot of character, the story provides a lot of emotions, and the interactive gameplay between Trico and "Boy" is very unique. Those three aspects make the game very enjoyable.....but I have to be honest, the camera and controls make you want to stop playing at times. I was kind of shocked at how bad the camera and controls were in this game. I guess I expected more from a 1st party game of this caliber. I kept thinking that maybe they should have worked on it a little longer!
I understand your point you were trying to make in your comparison to R&C's price point of releasing @ $40. In all honesty, I feel that R&C is waaaaay more polished then TLG. I think the new $39.99 price tag is okay, but I would wait until it hits the $19.99 price point.
@rjejr Where's the production value in EA's sports games though? We all know it's the same game every year. If anything, those games should be $20-40. Why are people paying the same $60 ever year for the same game?
Now I understand that licensing and everything is incredibly expensive for sports games, but in terms of actual gameplay value? It's not worth your $60.
@Octane "Why are people paying the same $60 ever year for the same game?"
That was a rhetorical question, right?
Addiction rolled in a sense of urgency. It's almost like they're doing it against their will, they can't help themselves.
Already bought the steelbook edition day 1, and finish the game a couple of days later.
NO indie game is worth the 60 bucks.
Especially one that is digital only.
Look at no man's sky... absolutely ridiculous price!
Companies should release more games at variable price points.
Not every game has to be $60, it puts off semi-interested players.
It also feeds into a notion that many games are a rip-off (like NMS).
Realistic prices might lead to better reviews, better Day One sales, and less Internet hating on games.
I'm just confused because some say it's really good and others act like it sucks. I know it's been called a niche game but what about it makes it split people's opinions so much?
@rjejr Didn't read all that lol but I'm not arguing it's or was overpriced, it definitely is from what I've seen and heard. 30 quid sounds right which is about 30 dollars more or less now. I'll certainly play it eventually but I already know one play through will be enough.
