That delay to Gran Turismo Sport seems to have done the game the world of good. Not only does its beta look absolutely mind-blowing from a visual perspective, but those who got in have been commentating on how much better the sound is, too. Obviously long-time fans will know that the franchise has been criticised for its vacuum cleaner cars for many years now, but just listen to this BMW M6 GT3 roar around the Nurburgring.
It's not quite there yet as far as we're concerned: it sounds a little bit like it's been recorded in a small room rather than a large outdoor environment. But if Polyphony Digital can potentially tweak the processing to open the sound up a bit then it'll have made huge strides here, because this is lightyears better than in previous entries.

Granted I'm on my phone but had to remind myself I wasn't watching real footage then.
Urge..to buy...wheel...rising...
I hope this is pretty good. I've had an itch to play Gran Turismo for a while now.
@kyleforrester87 Yeah the lighting is frankly absurd. It really does look close to real-life.
Imagine it in 4K with HDR.
That looks insanely real lif-esque. I'll be honest I cant wait for this, I feel very spoiled this year, what with this WipEout and Sonic, being my most anticipated games of the year
This looks and sounds so good. Welcome back Gran Turismo. I defo need a racing wheel for this, I still have my Playseat racing chair.
@gmxs It's the Year of Dreams my man! So much good stuff, and such variety as well.
Sounds like its been recorded inside a large warehouse, when it switching to the cockpit camera it sounded unreal, its going to be a cracking game this.
@get2sammyb Whisper it, Persona 5 is just a couple of weeks away too
@adf86 Exactly!
Would i be living in dream land to hope Sony might release some kind of update to allow the Driving force GT to work with ps4 when this is released. Would that be possible?
SOAP BOX: Why do people care so much about collision visuals? This is a simulator... don't hit stuff! You can't see most of the car from the cockpit anyways (if it's like GT5/6 collisions will still effect performance). Maybe it's just me, but putting their efforts on LITERALLY anything else (like the sound) in the game makes more sense to me.
@get2sammyb To be fair the game had to improve visually. Before it looked visually worse than GT6.
@TripleGK I always had to B Spec those at maximum speed in GT4. No offense, but 24 hour races are ridiculous...
@Rukiafan7 GT6 looked great on PS3...?
I watched it on a large monitor and was initially thinking this was TV. Wow that is seriously impressive looking.
@NathanUC @Neolit you both sound sensible. I t-bone annoying AI, live life on the grass and force the competition to crawl behind me on tight circuits if I get in the lead. Some annoying Focus coming up on the outside, no problem - full dodgems mode engaged. Someone turning nicely into a corner, no problem - 3 tons of muscle car up your tailgate. Over tuned rotary engined cars in my garage? I have an idea - lets beat those factory spec Fiat 500s and mini coopers into oblivion. So yes, collision detection is important to me.
Jesus them graphics are very life like 4K with HDR will look insane, really looking forwards to this game.
I think you meant to say va va VROOM
@RedMageLanakyn You may have missed the joke being in the USA. We had a run of adverts in the UK for a small car (Peugeot or Renault I think) and the French girl would say va va voom in a sultry voice.
It sounds slightly better but the engine noise is still too unrealistically muffled. Because this is a track car, here is a comparison with one of the best sounding PC simulation games GTR2, https://youtu.be/vYAice6xzhA?t=32s
Even Need For Speed Underground 2 has awesome realistic loud car sounds and changes with different stages of tune. You can hear the echo of the engine when driving under a bridge or in between buildings as opposed to the highway. I'm sorry to say but as super realistic looking as GT Sport looks, the engine sounds unfortunately don't match.
@themcnoisy Ah, gotcha. I just thought adding in vroom would've been a corny pun
The linked video is no longer available but I've just watched a load of recent ones on youtube and, while they've clearly added a lot of ancillary sounds, I am still very underwhelmed by the actual engine notes. I'm still hearing that dull old digitised drone that has been around since the original.
Don't get me wrong, I love Gran Turismo, but they don't seem to get it. The cars are too muted and the engine just does not sound mechanical. Compare it to some stuff from Assetto Corsa and sadly they are worlds apart

@get2sammyb In many aspects it was one of the best looking PS3 games, except the crabby weather effects. GT Sport didn't look much better at first, but as you mentioned, it looks much better now which is fantastic news!
@get2sammyb Who was the author of the video? I want to see his other videos.
