Gearbox clearly should have prioritised Borderlands 3 ahead of Battleborn, but what's done is done, and the good news is that the studio is finally forging ahead with the loot shooter sequel. Boss Randy Pitchford took to the stage during an Unreal Engine panel at GDC 2017 today to reveal a little more about the title β much to the surprise of, well, everyone.
The panel was definitely more focused on tech than any gameplay reveals, but if you watch the full presentation on Polygon, it's pretty clear that what's being shown is Borderlands 3; Pitchford even made a joke about a particular character model's face being obscured β it's obviously not ready to reveal too much just yet.
We've known that Borderlands 3 has been in the early stages of development for some time, with Battleborn art director Scott Kester heading up the project and Mikey Neumann penning the plot. Could we see the sequel as soon as E3 2017? Some kind of teaser trailer seems likely, doesn't it? In the meantime, you'll have to make do with these low-quality screen grabs.

Really can't wait for this game, hope we do see it at E3 this year. Still play borderlands 2 from time to time but I need 3 to come soon to get me off of destiny!
Hopefully we will see it at E3 and hopefully further along their development than we assume. Would be great to see it sooner rather than later - a proper next gen Borderlands!!
It'll need to be a big improvement at this point because Destiny completely out did it in the loot and shoot genre. Plus it's style of humour was beginning to get grating. It also didn't help that Telltale told a far better story they Gearbox ever did. Improve on these as well as no Aliens Colonial Marines BS then maybe I might be interested.
@shaggywingnut
I feel your pain man. Luckily I managed to leave destiny 3 months ago and haven't been back.
Oh shiney!!
YES!!!!!!!!
Catch a riiiiiiiiiiiiide!!
Yaaasssssssssssss ππ
As much as I liked the main plot of TPS, the mechanics and balance were a bit of a mess. Well, almost an entire mess.
Well over 1000hours of 2 and 4-700 hundred of 1 (mostly offline on PC, not tracked).
Here's hoping they don't require a persistent online connection. If it does, I'll probably skip it.
the main problem gearbox might have is not making it feel like it's just more of the same. the first was great for its time, i platinumed it on PS3, whilst the second made small improvements to most things, it sorted of started to outstay its welcome for me before the end.. never did finish it. :/
Cannot freakin' wait!!
I like the first Borderlands game the best. Back then it was fresh and a little original.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Xbox just made free with GWG this month!.
Here's the tech demo for Borderlands 3.
