Sony congratulated Nintendo on the success of Zelda's reviews yesterday, and it's returned to acknowledge the release of the Switch today. Writing on its official Twitter account to over 13 million followers, it shared the following message: "Today's a big day for Nintendo! Congratulations on launch, we can't wait to play." There was no subtle advertising this time, just a big blue heart.
And that appears to be the end of all the corporate backslapping until the next console launch. We aim to improve our gag reflex prior to that.

Awwwwwww That's Sooooo burp greeeaaattt...
Thats nice
I'd be congratulating Nintendo if I was Sony too. They made a handheld that won't affect Sony's console sales or bottom line in the least bit. People who want a Switch can get one and know they'll still need a PS4/X1 for major third party games, which most people accept and are ok with. Everybody wins.
That's nice, I rarely see nintendo give congratulation to playstation.
@wiiware Probably because they can't work out how all this newfangled social media works.
@ShogunRok Like friendcodes in 2017, yikes. Thankfully, all my gaming friends is on ps4.
In case anyone was curious, the Xbox social media did nothing like this
For their sake, hopefully Nintendo has other good games in the pipeline. Can't expect Zelda alone to boost sales and the console to have longevity as well.
Eh, let's see how the sales go out for the Switch. Could end up like the Wii U or be more than that. I just don't have any hope for Nintendo, but it could return if they are successful. And by successful, I don't mean like the Wii, where it was just financially successful, but was utter complete garbage.
Meanwhile, in more entertaining, non-corporate sucking up, the PlayStation and Nintendo fanboys are waging an epic war in the battle of the metacritic userscores as each side have tanked the scores for Zelda and Horizon. It is truly brilliant stuff, a bunch of people giving their thoughts on a game they haven't and will never play.
@MagicGunner
Switch will easily outsell Wii U lifetime sales. I think within a year and half, tops.
With the launch of the Switch we've also seen a magical thing happen right here at PushSquare; the Switch is the first time PushSquare has officially acknowledged the existence of another console outside of the Sony ones.
What is this, Nintendolife?
@Boerewors Well, the way I see it, Nintendo has always been an underdog in the video game market; even if they make an impressive game, no one's really rooting for them, except for Nintendo fans. Everyone else is singing praises for Sony and Microsoft's systems, so NL only focuses on Nintendo's systems. That's how I figure it is, anyways.
Not that I care much about console wars but I wonder if the Switch doing well would actually benefit Sony?
The console doesn't really seem to be competing with the PS4 directly, but perhaps it could make those that purchase an xbox as a secondary machine shift over to Nintendo instead, leaving the green machines as 3rd choice for many.
I wonder if Sony and Nintendo will do the same to MS when Scorpio comes out.
I'm thinking not!
I actually prefer this attitude a lot more to the cut-throat approach in the 90s. I remember the journalist Kyle Bosman recalling that Shuhei Yoshida was really excited about Zelda at the last E3, so expect more of this friendly approach in the future. I'm all for it!
I'm just surprised that anybody is actually interested in such a device.
Ah this is nice. Congrats to ninty on their launch! Hope they do well for both gamers and new careers for people wishing to work in game industry β
@Gamer83 Sadly, Fan Dumb will never die. Eh, whatever. It's not like anyone takes seriously someone who gives a 0/10 on an AAA+ blockbuster game.
People, do yourselves a favor and go ask a friend for a Wii U to play breath of the Wild. Protect yourself from buying $300 on a dysfunctional console. Or better yet, wait for cemu to make an emulated version of Zelda, now able to run games at 4k 60fps.. Or maybe just wait for a nintendo switch emulator entirely.
Friendly gesture and a smart thing to do. Not really any reason not to do it. Also worth considering, if this is Nintendo's last console, they have to choose who to go with to distribute their games after that.
And they're not likely to choose someone who is unfriendly and unapproachable. Or someone they feel has besmirched them. Could be Sony, Microsoft, Steam, GoG, mobile phones, all of the above?
@RedMageLanakyn Indeed, I bought my Switch for exclusive stuff, major games (and sony exclusives) will be played on PS4. Only cross games like Yooka & Layle that will be played on my switch, mainly because of the portability
@MagicGunner I'm actually tempted to hold out for that. The wiiu version has a lot of noticeable framerate drops in most open areas. It doesn't make it unplayable, but it does make me consider waiting for a CEMU version, if only just for a solid framerate.
