Ahhh, good β the weekend has arrived again. With the nights drawing longer but the weather still pretty poor, we reckon you can get away with another couple of days curled up on the couch with your PlayStation 4. Here's what we're playing this time.

The monster winter storm that we got has delayed me getting to play the Danganronpa 1 & 2 PS4 remasters, which is disappointing, but at the same time, it'll allow me to soldier through Horizon: Zero Dawn. I'm going to beat this game if it kills me, but I can't think of many instances where I hated the combat in a game the way I hate Horizon's combat. [WTF? - Ed]

I'm continuing a PS4 Pro boosted co-op run through of Bloodborne and hopefully finishing Aloy's adventure.

For the past two weekends I have been having a blast with Aloy, however she is really testing my stamina so I'm gonna have to take a break this weekend. Instead I'll be revisiting The Witcher 3 in the hope that I'll enjoy it a bit more than when I first tried it.

After a lot of meandering through the gorgeous scenery and picking fights with Thunderjaws and Stormbirds, it's time I cracked on with the main story of Horizon: Zero Dawn. I've spent a fair amount of time crafting bigger inventories and buying better equipment, so I'm ready to take on all-comers to get to the bottom of this game's big mystery: why are there so many bloody turkeys waddling about?

In light of Capcom's recent announcement this weekend I am going to do a playthrough of Ducktales and Ducktales 2 on the NES. PS4 wise I will be camo-hunting in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.
That's us all out of gas, so now it's over to you. What are you playing this weekend? You know the drill: let us know in the comments section below.

"I can't think of many instances where I hated the combat in a game the way I hate Horizon's combat."
That sure is a... Different opinion! Ahem!
I'm done and finished with the legend of zelda breath of the wild on the switch after 100+ hours. I'm currently playing FAST RMX and I'm planning to buy the NEOGEO games on my switch, if it wasn't for the delay I would be playing south park fractured but whole right now on my ps4 :/
I'm tying up the loose ends in Nier, then I'm going to hop back into Gravity Rush in anticipation for the DLC on Tuesday.
@get2sammyb I didn't wanna hate it!!!! But good lord, I can't standdddd it! It's actively interfering with my enjoyment of the game!
@gbanas92 I... I... Don't understand how, though? What don't you like about it? It controls like a dream, the combat options you have are varied and plentiful, the dinobots have great AI and animations...
DOES NOT COMPUTE!
@Enuo THAT'S OUT ON TUESDAY?! I FORGOT ABOUT THAT!!
You've made my day.
@get2sammyb It's what I do.
@get2sammyb I've encountered none of those things haha. Other than maybe the Thunderjaw I've found the enemy AI exceptonally underwhelming. Very predictable. To a really annoying extent. And all the enemies, even the smaller ones feel like bullet sponges (well I guess arrow sponges?). I try mixing up approaches and everything but I feel like I've done it all already, and the gameplay seems to have plateaued incredibly early on in the experience. I was even more frustrated when I looked it up and found out I already had all the best weapons in the game! (I figured I was wayyyy under levelled or underequipped or something!). The dino's and Aloy's animations are great though! Agreed there. I just wish the hit boxes would follow suit. Particularly with the Watchers. When they have arrows literally stuck in their crit points but are losing 6 HP per shot, something's wrong! The stupid damage threshold's on everyone I fight is making the game feel like nothing but tedium, rather than a fun experience.
@gbanas92 If I said that about Zelda, would someone put out a hit on me?
finished Horizon last week loved every 1 of the 45 hours so I've picked up Return To Arkham in the sale so I'm currently working through Arkham Asylum - my favourite game of all time
Mostly Dragon Quest builders, I never liked minecraft, but this one I really enjoy it. I will also spend a bit of time with Ziggurat and probably Overwatch.
@get2sammyb it's also very wrong the combat is spot on in Horizon
Finished transformer devastation, start playing doom, just got a new oled tv (lg b6) for horizon, man I can't wait to play horizon after doom
Also downloading nier automata, I still haven't decided do I play this or horizon first after doom.
@Enuo NO! Okay, maybe.
@KratosMD Oh Horizon is definitely polished! There's not really anything about it that I would call confusing. Very intuitive UI as well as systems!
well now we have external HDD support i have finally been able to work on my backlog so i have Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness, Skyrim, Tales of Zesteria and Dragon Quest Heroes to play
finished Rise of the Tomb Raider a few days ago though
@GlynCR you definitely had a different time with the game than I've been having! Because the combat has definitely not been spot-on for me!
Well, so much to choose from. I have Zelda BOTW on Switch, Walking Dead Season 2 on Vita and still plugging away on Horizon. I think though, I am going to keep ploughing through Horizon. I am like 32% through it but have spent over 20 hours. I think I need to get a move on and stop wobbling around. Excited by Zelda but I can't really commit to two huge open world games. It's like having more than one wife (I would imagine, I am lucky enough to have one).
On the topic of combat on Horizon, I find I do well on planned encounters but if I pick a fight on a whim, I get my backside handed to me. However, I've noticed that levelling up to suggested amounts before tackling certain things does make it easier.
I'm just wandering around the wonderful world of Hyrule this weekend.
@gbanas92 Hmmm, that's unfortunate. Sounds like it just hasn't clicked with you.
I will say if you've got the best weapons you definitely should be doing more than 6 damage. I was doing like 240 damage when I was near to the end.
Try using Tearblaster arrows specced with Tear coils to blow all of the armour off, then target the weak points with your most penetrative arrows.
Here's a bit of gameplay I captured of taking out three enemies with one well-placed arrow: https://twitter.com/_get2sammyb/status/838839739155431425
Not trying to wave my e-peen, just wondering if it may help you. I took the armour off its fuel canister and then blew it up, which took everything out in its radius.
Horizon Zero Dawn for me...again.
What's all this about horrible controls and fighting mechanics??Madness!Mind you, maybe I'd agree if I spent less time slaughtering defenceless bunny wabbits, foxes and Turkeys and more time killing robots?
Just got thema Aegis of Earth platinum now i need to make a choice what to play next a backlog somewhat sucks to much choises.
First world problems i feel shame...
The combat in Horizon is outstanding. It's some of the best combat in a RPG this gen.
@gbanas92 I adored the fighting in HZD hope it clicks for you soon
I tried the Toukiden 2 demo and hated it. Just not my thing. So more NieR.
PS4: Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier Automata
PSVita: Persona 4 Golden
All my game time is being split pretty evenly between 3 excellent games.
However, I'm rushing through P4G. Not because of P5, but because after a major story point & being given the opportunity to save, my save files- including the back ups got corrupted. I can no longer safe either, but the game is still running & trophies are popping.
Just have to keep it on standby until I finish. I'm 15hours in, but if it's anything like P3Ps 80+ hours, my Vita is going to do some serious work.
Tough but not impossible. Have had games suspended on the vita for months before.
I started replaying Crash 2 a couple days ago, so I'll likely tear through that this weekend.
Can I say I've enjoyed Simon's Horizon related entendres the past few weeks? If I played Horizon, I'd likely do the same thing.
18 shrines to go in BOTW, then i'll be ready to put it down. If i get them done tonight i'll move on to Horizon. Might try out the Turok 2 remaster as well.
Im having the same Journey as so many others. Im 56 hrs into Horizon Zero Dawn and only half way through the story. Im loving it though so no complaints. Ill try to get more story in today.
Family over so not a lot hopefully some Nier tomorrow.
@gbanas92 My major issue with Horizon in terms of combat is that I find it too easy to cheese the AI. I can hide in tall grass and literally wipe out an entire pack with whistling and traps. If you spec into silent strike, which i did early, it makes most fights laughable if you plan out your attack and have some good cover. I'm not really afraid to tackle things out in the open, but at that point it just becomes a long game of kiting.
And Horizon combat is the nuts, u crazy! Get that slow mo while aiming in the air ability going on then run, jump and aim at those explosive canisters - boom!
And watchers should be going down in one arrow (2 perhaps for the corrupt ones?) if you get em in the eye.
@RedMageLanakyn Yeah whistle in the long grass does make it a bit easy sometimes. I guess the key is to mix it up and challenge yourself.
Finally got my Switch on Tuesday and Zelda last night so guess what I will be playing.
Diva F2nd also gave me the last Gold trophy on Thursday so I am only one trophy away from the Plat.
@get2sammyb @gbannas92 Yeah, I hate the combat in Horizon, too, so you're not alone! (Though, it does seem to be an outlying opinion.)
I started watching 4 different shows on NF this week, so I think I'm taking a gaming break for a few days while I binge watch. Then taking advantage of a $1 Game fly offer, probably Star Ocean I&F.
@kyleforrester87 Well for the big ones, yeah I tend to mix it up, but it usually ends up being kiting them near a building or cover that I can hide around. For the little packs, I've encountered so many of them that it's autopilot to whistle and kill.
I certainly don't hate the combat, i just wish the AI was smarter, buildings and cover were destructible, and there weren't so many patches of tall grass. I know i don't have to hide, but they put them everywhere it's hard to avoid them haha!
Im still plugging away on Zelda, I love my Switch!! Though i also do have Ratchet and Clank from gamefly so i might pop that in my ps4 and give it a go if i can tear myself away from the Switch!
@GlynCR How does Arkham City look on PS4? I remember complaints cropping up about how it looked compared to the last gen version and held off buying the collection.
I gotta work this weekend, so it won't be much. WWE 2K17 and maybe Street Fighter V, and King of Fighters 14.
I'm on my second playthrough of Horizon on an alt account (free platinum). It still feels so good to play.
Playing Zelda on the switch nad maybe a bit of snipperclips and shovel knight dlc,
I'm at my in-laws this weekend so I will only play some Pokemon Moon on 3ds.
I've got four full days off starting from tomorrow, so plenty of game time for me. Having finally finished The Witcher 3, I plan to spend a couple of hours basking in that lovely yet weirdly unsatisfying post-game glow, tying up a couple of loose ends and finally getting into Gwent. I'm also tempted to have a go at The Last Guardian's 'under five hours' trophy, but I'm worried it'll ruin my memory of the game somewhat. Might give the PS Plus offerings a go as well.
@get2sammyb Is female Ryder your new Taylor Swift?
After the 64 days running the Best Nintendo game of all time cup in the forums, I actually set up the wii and am playing Wii Bowling. Super Mario galaxy is in the post and am eyeing up xenonlade chronicles but the price is a bit steep. But Wii Bowling is absolutely amazing.
As for my Sony stuff P4G is getting played later. I've met some creepy nurse in the hospital who keeps coming on to me. Well I need those social link points so may as well go back tonight.
After my back to back adventures to El Dorado, Shambhala and Ubar. A much needed rest is required, but in between the land of nod, I will be trying not to jam my discs. Have a good weekend everyone.
I'm going to give Trove another try, I played it the other night, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.
I'll probably keep on working my way through Ghost Recon: Wildlands. I want to say that I'll try and get it finished in time for Andromeda but honestly, after 20+ hours I'm starting to find it really repetitive. It's a good, fun game but the missions are all so similar and the gameplay is just mark enemies, kill them all, repeat for every single outpost and mission in the world. Probably more fun in co-op, syncing shots manually etc but solo its just getting tedious.
If I get bored I'll probably go back to finish up Nioh and mix in some Paragon, since the first anniversary has made me want to get back into it.
Just finish HZD and after 56 hrs finally have platinum trophy. Now I'm jumping to nier automata and ghost recon and maybe some breath of the wild on the switch. Don't like this Zelda that much
I just bought a BUNCH of Steam games for cheap.
But I won't touch them until I finish Horizon. I'm 20 hours in and just got to Meridian. So I think I've got a long way to go.
I've finished a playthrough of Breath of the Wild, so I'll probably work on finishing Blaster Master Zero and Yoshi's Wooly World before Persona 5 drops.
@Tsurii SMT IV: Apocalypse is incredible. A HUGE improvement over the original in almost every way, from demon and smirk balancing to a labeled overworld map and fantastic dungeon design. Probably my favorite game from last year.
I'm mainly playing Zelda and Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone this weekend. Also finally getting RE7 in a few days.
@Tasuki I've not tried City yet I only got the remasters for Asylum, it's not an amazing remaster tbh
I've finished Uncharted 1 on Crushing difficulty. I'm going to go for the trophies and see whether I can earn my first platinum trophy. I don't have the will to try it on the hardest difficulty Brutal, but at least the Brutal trophy isn't required for the platinum.
Playing Rogue Legacy on PS Vita another superb game on the system, before that i was playing Fez and man such great game that is.
Hunting for laserdiscs and video games at second hand stores, so far mild success.....might play the first grand turismo on ps3.....
I finally bought my 1st game of 2017, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, and what a game it is so far! Absolutely cracking, and it was only Β£12.95 for the day one edition from Amazon as well.
@gmxs I bought Deus Ex as well last week great game, so i've been playing that mostlyand quite a bit of backlog, played Unravel last week that was pretty good for what it was. I'm all about those bargain's atm playing game's I didn't want to pay full price for.
@THEONE19 You're not wrong about Fez. Fez Fez Fez Fez. I'll never stop banging on about it!
@xMEADx How are you finding Unravel, I always keep meaning to buy it
I liked it I got it in a bundle with NFS and PVZ2, some clever little puzzle's in there with the whole string thing going on. I didnt exactly struggle as in I dreaded how difficult the next area would be or anything like that but there was more than a few puzzle's that had me stumped for a while. The graphic's are pretty good as well, I wouldn't of minded if I paid Β£10/Β£15 for it alone because you pretty much know what your getting before you buy it, a cute little platformer and it's done pretty well you get what you expect. Hope that help's. The challenge would be finding all the secret's, I found a lot and saw at least one I remember that I couldn't for the life of me work out how to reach, so I didn't get all of them not even close.
@ShogunRok It is!
@themcnoisy Great work on the thread! Really amazing as always!
Trying to get through the Horizon story. Pretty excruciating getting through all these audio logs and documents. The game is trending back downward for me, maybe a 7. I appreciate they put so much effort into it, but it is a flawed game. Still love the combat though.
Still better than W3, the Arkham games, or DA:I though, for sure.
@get2sammyb It was brilliant this year. One of the rounds went absolutely nuts when I twisted the rules a bit (round 4 or 5 I think), we had around 20 regular contributors with other heads popping in and out. Dont know how you've attracted so many but almost every forum poster is extremely knowledgeable. The top 20 is practically perfect (bar f-zero gx not getting in lol). Next Winter we will be back to The best game ever across all consoles, which will be interesting.
@THEONE19 wow 2 of my favourite games ever in succession great picks! Check out my avatar! I never could beat the 3rd neo boss (hard versions of the bosses if you have got that far).
I tried to get back in to No Man's Sky after the latest patch but just can't. I found it pretty boring after playing Horizon.
I know some would say it was always boring but I actually enjoyed it my first go around.
@GlynCR Ah ok, thanks for the info. I might just go ahead and get it anyway since I sold both of my copies of Asylum and City years ago.
Said I'd work thru backlog before buying anymore games. So start AC syndicate and really enjoying Ubisoft get a lot of hate, but I enjoy the AC games. Also trying to her into Witcher.
@Tasuki still have my AA collectors edition but Β£14 was to good to pass up
I'm still going with far cry primal, it's a bigger game than i imagined π° I'm 24 hours in and I'm only at 36% completion π₯
@themcnoisy your avatar is awesome:)
no i still haven't reached neo bosses yet, the game is hard and i'm not really great at it but i will keep playing because of its awesome level design, leveling system, and its sharp controls and of course because it is really addicting.
i'm just in love with this game and hopefully will beat it one day:)
@themcnoisy @kyleforrester87 Fez is one the most unique games i ever played, never thought i will love it so much:)
@get2sammyb Yeah, it's just rotten luck I think. I've spent something like 15 hours with the game, and I'm not enjoying myself still, so I'm skeptical I'll be able to get into it, but I intend to finish the game anyways, so there's at least hope!
The 6 damage thing isn't like every shot, though! More just something that happens occasionally that seems like a hitbox problem on a whole bunch of the robosaurs. Oh I use the hell out of tearblast arrows! Those things are awesome! I wish that vid is how it happened for me! Using elemental stuff and going for crit points generally just nets me a slightly quicker fight at best and it drives me nuts!
@GlynCR I certainly hope so! This is a game I wanted to love, and never expected I wouldn't actually love it. Let alone the fact that I've been kinda hating it!
@RedMageLanakyn Yeah silent strike breaks the game practically with some of the smaller enemies! I invested in it too, and it's been pretty important to make the combat bearable, but I mentioned that earlier too! One of my problems is just how unimpressive the AI is, outside of maybe the Thunderjaw, which I've found a bit more dynamic than the other creatures so far.
"I can't think of many instances where I hated the combat in a game the way I hate Horizon's combat."
Graham Banas, or is it Bananas?!
Got re7 a few weeks ago but just started really playing this weekend, so far I love it. The garage fight was insane, maybe one of my favorite video game moments in a good while. Also, still plunking away at hzd, just doing side quests and collectables, and absolutely loving the combat system! π
Dirt rally and swearing a lot ( as usual with that game )
and Kotor II with the restored content mod .
Final Fantasy XV on Xbox One.
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Horizon! I just started it last night. Every fight so far is a tactical masterpiece. So many different ways to fight a herd, and I can only foresee battles getting more complicated, or easier depending on how you skill up and craft stuff. Love it.
@Splat same. I booted it up the other night to see. I turned it off and removed it from my system. done!
@Dru196
Same here buddy, love me a creed game and Syndicate was fantastic!
I got much of holidays
Just want to start Nier π
Finished Horizon Zero Dawn this weekend. Enjoyed every one of the 55+ hours. Sure, it borrows systems from so many other games, but the experience here is so cohesive. Guerrilla are leaning so hard into the world and lore they've created that it's hard not to be swept along.
The combat with the machines is excellent, giving HZD something that sets it apart from open world Ubi-tower games; I never got bored of a single encounter in all my time with it.
I've also been playing the "fill my external drive" game. With ADSL speeds "down under" less than hot, this is taking some time!
Finally finished up on FFXV. Could've completed it sooner if real life would've been a bit more quiet ^^
Anyway, Horizon adventure has begun!!! Exited the 'prologue' and the visuals are amazing. Haven't had some real combat yet so for now I'll soak in the scenery and anxiously await what this game will throw at me.
