Phwoar, this was unexpected: Capcom has announced The Disney Afternoon Collection which, despite its frankly atrocious name, actually sounds super cool. Essentially it's a PlayStation 4 compilation of six classic games updated with 1080p visuals, and it's launching on 18th April for £15.99 in Europe and $19.99 in North America.
Here's what you get, as per the press release:
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers: This classic lets players team up with a friend in co-op play as they assume the roles of the mischievous Chip and Dale as they take on memorable villain Fat Cat and attempt to solve the mystery of a missing kitten.
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2: Fat Cat has escaped and his plans are even more dastardly this time. The titular heroes and supporting cast Monterey Jack, Gadget, and Zipper must stop Fat Cat from his evil dream of world domination!
Darkwing Duck: Play as the original caped crusader and fight a city full of criminals from the infamous F.O.W.L. organization in this action-packed platforming epic.
DuckTales: In this iconic platforming adventure, players help Scrooge McDuck fill his feathery pockets with vast riches from across the world.
DuckTales 2: The sequel to the original game comes jam-packed with more action and an even bigger caper set in new locations like the Bermuda Triangle and Niagara Falls!
TaleSpin: Take to the skies as Baloo the bear navigates his plane through exotic and dangerous locations in this side-scrolling shoot-em-up.
Each title will come with filtering options so that you can toggle between the original visuals and the high-definition presentation, as well as Boss Rush and Time Attack modes. There'll also be an in-game museum for you to explore, including original art, assets, and information about the original titles. Pretty neat, then, eh?

Yes please.
Duck Tales?
Woo hoo!
Of course the collection full of NES games isn't coming to the Nintendo console.
Whatever. Haven't played Talespin, but those other games are fantastic.
I wonder if we'll ever get Aladdin and Lion King and stuff on PS4.
That's nice. Exactly the same when The Mega Man Legacy Collection came out.
I loved these cartoons years ago, but I never did play the games based on them.
I loved Talespin on the Mega Drive when I was little! No idea how the NES one holds up but I think I'll have to get this!
The name is fitting since that's what they called the block of cartoons that played every weekday that these games were based off of. Every single one of those games was fun to play. Although I never played the Darkwing Duck game or the NES version of Tailspin. I owned the TG16 version of Tailspin but that was a platformer, not a side scrolling shooter. Looking forward to playing these again.
oh yeah Sega genesis
@get2sammyb absolutely loved aladdin on my mega drive. I had lion king too, but remember finding it incredibly difficult. Would be great to play them both again
MY DREAMS HAVE COME TRUE
I should be more excited because I love a lot of these games/cartoons. However, when I read the title and a little bit of the article, I was thinking this was like Ducktales Remastered for each of the games (didn't see the price at first). Watched the video and waited for the remastered part that didn't come.
So it's definitely cool but not something I'm going out of my way to buy. Maybe in a sale.
Retail?
Day 1!
Hopefully the Switch gets this as a physical cart!
Totally buying this!
Would pay £15.99 just for Chip n' Dale!
My Childhood =D
@ztpayne7 Yeah not remastered, but running in 1080p.
I like how you can rewind. Nice feature. I've never played much of Darkwing or Chip & Dale but I really like what I've played of them.
I'm one of the few non-fans of the Duck Tales game (I don't even like the moon theme... Shoot me)
@Ralizah I'm sure the switch will get it later...at a higher price....with less features...
I'm pumped, loved these games as a kid, will buy again!
@mookysam The NES Talespin is quite possibly the worst of the Disney games. It's more of a sidea scrolling shumup like Gradius but with awful controls. It's pretty hard too out of all the Disney games I managed only to beat this game once.
Now I want double dragon 2 and super contra nes on ps4..
Great games but where's Castle/World of Illusion?
No freaking way, I'm so getting this.
@carlos82 They were obviously going with the Disney Afternoon theme. Which all those games mentioned in that pack are games that were based off of the tv shows.
@get2sammyb Which version of Aladdin are we talking about?
@Tasuki The Mega Drive one was the one I played.
@get2sammyb Ah yeah sadly the Genesis version of Aladdin and Lion King were done by Virgin not Capcom. If anything Capcom would release the SNES Aladdin but after that I think their deal with Disney ended.
Done. Darkwing Duck?!? C'mon. I can't say no to that.
Great news , great memories of these on Megadrive . Right up there with Disc Jam , i mean Rocket League.
DuckTales has the greatest theme song ever written.
Pity it's a Western enough release to leave Vita contemptuously unattended (even though all the games are by Capcom, but Capcom isn't very pro-Vita either). It's a compilation I have zero doubts I'll own (Duck Tales 2 and Chip & Dale 2 alone are among the games that made my childhood), but I'll wait awhile for a pretty likely Switch port.
@get2sammyb ha i had both of them, thay are classic's now which definitely should be remastered for the PS4.
Yess i grew-up on these games, i'll definitely be buying them.
Yessss!!!! I loved these games when I was a kid!
@Splat agreed. It's the pinnacle of theme tune writing.
@get2sammyb @banacheck I always thought the Genesis version of Aladdin got more credit then it should have. Yes I will say I do enjoy it more then the SNES one but the SNES one isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I guess it just something that carried over from the 16 bit wars that it was a feather in the cap of Genesis owners to claim they got the better game.
If this is successful, they DEFINITELY need to follow it up with a SNES collection including Goof Troop, Aladdin, and any number of great Mickey games. Definitely looking forward to this one as it is, anyway.
@get2sammyb don't play like that... imagine.... .
I am the terror that flaps in the night!
Re watching gameplay should be nostalgia enough for me. I'll wait and see.
I love darkwing duck! Still have the nes cartridge!
This looks fun, hope it gets a physical version in Asia, if not I can wait for a sale on the digital version.
I definitely played a lot of Ducktales and Chip and Dale back in the day.
Wow no Switch version?? Also why not a retail version Capcom?? Please let us choose!!
No QuackShot
QuackShot is my favourite Mega Drive game. 😁
@Splat theme is in my head all morning! It's a great/horrible thing to happen lol.
I wonder how many volumes there will be in the future and would it come to the Switch on a cart.
Very reasonable price just a shame it isn't on the Switch.
Totally radical and bodaciously awesome announcement!
All you Switch guys: get used to not getting games.
@nhSnork @Steel76 @Gold_Ranger @joey302 @Bread-Not-Toast
@readyletsgo Probably just the one volume. These are most of the games based off of the Disney Afternoon shows that Capcom did. Yeah there was Goof Troop and Bonkers but those were on the SNES and weren't quite as well know as the NES ones. One could also say Aladdin on SNES as well, but that was based off of the movie not the TV series.
Thank god I can put my plans of buying Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers 2 on permanent hiatus. I was not looking forward to a $220 NES game. This is a great bit of news, though I hope it'll come to Switch, too.
@Mahe in the day and age where Wii U and Vita continue to get games, a Nintendo console that pulled off as much of a PS4 (if you know what I mean) as it could without compromising its trump card over PS4... is one to get used to not getting games on? I don't think so. XD
Not to mention that we're talking Capcom here - the company that moved one if its cash cows from PlayStation family to 3DS despite the latter sporting weaker hardware.
@Stuffgamer1 I'd like potential DLC for this collection, too. I genuinely liked The Little Mermaid, for one.
@nhSnork "Nintendo console that pulled off as much of a PS4 (if you know what I mean) as it could without compromising its trump card over PS4..."
No, I don't know what you mean. What the heck do you mean?
Also, have you been following the news lately? Before Switch's release, a lot of N-fanboys were saying "the games aren't announced because they're waiting for the reveal/release/whatever!"
But that's now over. The system was revealed and released, and still the game announcements aren't coming. Why would anyone buy a Switch when they can't even get what should be obvious shoo-ins like this and South Park Fractured But Whole?
